.308 or other for my next semi-auto build?

I have a Savage Model 12 LRP in 6.5 creedmoor right now which is a fantastic rifle, but I'd like something that is lighter weight and more compact. My savage has a 26" barrel, which is great in that it gets those 140gr amax rounds to 2700-2800 fps so the cartridge can really perform, but I'd...

Rifle makes you look better than you are?

I'm still new to LR shooting but I don't think you need the most expensive top tier gear, although its nice if you have the means. I concur in that where people go wrong is in buying the $105 Chinese scope to put on their rifle; and like dang472 said spend all of their time trying to figure out...

    338 Lapua Factory Ammo Questions

Ok so after some digging it looks like the Federal GM .338 lapua 300 gr load uses Lapua brass. Does anyone have any velocity data on this round? I found a good deal on it so i may jump on it if the velocity figures are good. 2550 fps seems a bit low though.

How is the Hornady brass for reloading? Reviews on midwayusa aren't very favorable.

    338 Lapua Weigh In

Out of curiosity, what are your guy rifles with the magnum cartridges weighing in at? I just put my new 338 Lapua stick on the scale and it tops just a hair over 18lbs w/ scope, empty AI mag, and an atlas bipod. Its been almost 6 months since I've gone to the gym...I think I may have to...

Rifle Camo, why? (Can of worms)

I learned my lesson and tried my best to do a "sweet" camo job on a rifle one time after perusing forums for hours looking at awe-inspiring camo jobs; only to find that I absolutely suck at Krylon camo paint jobs. I even prepped the surfaces with brake cleaner to no avail. The paint looked OK...

    338 Lapua Factory Ammo Questions

That's the plan but it will probably be another year or so before I have the time to set up a reloading station and start the assembly line, so to speak. I already have some lapua brass and sierra bullets too, dog'namit. In the meanwhile I'd like to get to shootin', and need a good factory load...

    338 Lapua Factory Ammo Questions

I need to stock some 338 lapua factory ammo before I start reloading for the cartridge and I was wondering if you guys could give me some advice. I'm looking to shoot the 300gr SMK and I've found so far that Federal, Norma and Black Hills make a round with this pill. Does anyone have velocity...

Best performaing MK262-like ammo? Hornady, black hills, or others?

I'm about to load up on a stash of match ammo for the SPR I'm building (BCM 18" stainless steel heavy barrel) and I have a couple of options in mind. First is the Hornady 75g Superformance, which hornady details as producing 2930 fps and the bullet has a G1 BC of 0.395. Looks to be about the...

Rifle Scopes Best Budget Scope for Precision AR $400-$800

Stpilot12, The problem I have with the Leupy AR scopes is their turrets have no revolution indicator. If I don't know if I'm on rev 1, 2, 3, etc. I'd rather just have cap and coin turrets and an xmas tree reticle.

Rifle Scopes Best Budget Scope for Precision AR $400-$800

I'm looking for a budget scope for a MK12 clone I'm building: Budget: $400-800 Focal Plane: SFP (I won't be milling targets with this scope) Illumination: Optional but a big +++ Magnification range: 3-9 or 3-12 ish range. Also considering 1-6ish range. Glass: Best value for the $$ Turrets: 100%...

Rifle Scopes Trouble deciding between Vortex 2.5-10x32mm and 2.5-10x44mm

So Vortex uses different glass in the 32mm model? I would have thought they'd use the same glass in both scopes since they are in the same product lineup. Thanks for the heads up! My initial impression is 44mm would be best because I hear a lot of nighforce NXS 32mm owners on here that want to...

Rifle Scopes Trouble deciding between Vortex 2.5-10x32mm and 2.5-10x44mm

I'm looking for a budget optic for my MK12 build and I can't decide between the 32mm and 44mm versions of the Vortex Viper PST. I understand that the big difference is FFP vs. SFP and $200. I don't need FFP on this scope, so I'd like to save the $200. My question is will I miss the parallax...

Just curious...whats your BATTLE READY Precision AR (556) weigh?

By "battle ready" I assume you mean "range fun-gun" since you have a Weaver Grand Slam on there. Not trying to dis your optic selection, as not all of us can afford high dollar german glass for all of our rigs (myself included), but how many thousands of rounds have you put down range with that...

    BCM KMR 15 handguard

Whoa, totally different experience here. I was shooting out in the Mojave in 90F heat a couple weeks ago and after ~100 quick rounds my 13" BCM KMR handguard was too hot to touch without gloves on. I didn't shoot 100 rapid fire, but at a steady pace. Luckily I was using gloves so I could keep...

    Rifle Scopes Steiner 5-25x56

Whoops, yes I meant 3 revs instead of 2. I understand the amazingly awesome tactical-ness of having 2 revs instead of 3 (helping shave milliseconds off your dailing speed), however, from a usability standpoint it sucks. One tenth of an mrad can get you a miss at ELR. I've been a web designer for...

Yep--use 3 revolutions instead of 4, like Vortex.

JC Steel @ 900 Yards with 6.5 Creedmoor Review

Burr now that's cold. For what its worth, I don't shoot in the summer months because the temps are 100-120F. So our shooting seasons are reversed. I only went out once last summer before it got real hot. It was 105F and I sweated buckets the whole time. Plus shooting prone feels even hotter and...
