I have a load worked up for the 168 Berger VLD target and one for the 178 Amax. The Berger load is 45.2 grains of Varget and the Amax load is 42.8. My chrono died after shooting the amax which I was getting avg speeds of 2680 with 12 fps ES. This load had 9.0 moa of drop at 460 yards on paper and was spot on with the 240 G7 BC stated by Brian Litz. My 168 Berger's only dropped 7.0 moa at the same distance. The balistic calculator says that the load had to be running 2900 fps to do this with the g7 of .242 which Berger states. This seems a little fast for my 24" barrel. Any body else shoot these? what kind of speeds are yall seeing?

3100 fps. Oh wait that is my 300 win mag. I think I need heavier bullets to bring out its full potential.

Did you have any strange terrain elements over the bullet's path that could have provided extensive up-drafts? Where you shooting at any sort of angle with wind that was either coming towards you or away from you?

How different was your seating depth than the tested OAL from load data?

Any pressure signs?

We need more info to give any suggestions as to the cause.

Did you verify that the 168's hit the same POI at 100 yards? It's very common for different bullets to have a different POI even at close range. If you don't check them at 100 yards and go straight to long range, the difference in POI can appear to be an external ballistic difference, when really it could primarily be a mechanical difference in POI for the two bullets.

Just a thought,

Yea Brian, I re-zero'd at 100. I'm going to shoot both of them at a 600 yard match at the end of the month and see which one does the best. I was able to keep both bullets within the 10 ring yesterday with 10-20 mph gusty winds, which was pretty promising.
