Re: 308 Winchester
11/20/2014
I'm just getting started with a Howa 1500, 24" heavy barrel in .308.
Only load I have so far that the gun that it really seems to like is:
155 Amax
Hornady Match Brass
IMR 4064 46grns
Fed 210
Can anybody tell me how much 4064 to start with using LC brass. I figured to drop down to 44 grns for starters. Any suggestions appreciated. Have a bunch of LC brass and I wanted to see if I can get close to the load listed above accuracy wise and near the velocity which is at 2930 with my friends chrono.

Rem 700 SPS Tac. 20" 1:12
175 SMK's (seconds)
41.5 H4895
LC 04 brass
CCI BR2 primers
Center 3 shots outlier is cold bore. I shot the other two and adjusted my zero.
Top 3 groups are five shots each. I have a very unstable platform to shoot from, so most of the dispersion is me. The last group I changed my position and sucked it in...it will do better.

44.3 varget. ( little warm fellas, proceed working up to it) 178 amax at 2.225 to ogive (2.861"). Lapua brass, FGM210M, 28" Bartlein 1:11.25, stiller Tac 30 action.
Haven't Chono'd it yet but I imagine it's some where in the 2760 to 2790 fps range.

New to this and learning.
What are you jumping them then? Im jumping the 175smk .010 out of my 5R. Started working up 178AMAX jumping at .020 while trying to run an OCW on it.

I'm jumping about 50/1000". They and the 185 juggernauts like to jump in my rifle.

that load kills it in my rifle as well, just trying to figure out how my MV is so high.... im running 43.3 @ 2.11 to the ogive. but out of a 19 inch barrel and getting 2611FPS at 10 feet. The MV is confirmed on my app as my drop chart is perfect to 1k.
would the twist speed effect velocity? im running a 10 twist.

As a general rule, a 1:10 will stabilize better with bigger bullets and shorter bbls. However , a 1:12 usually pushes a 175 grain pill a little faster than a 1:10.

Anyone have a 308 load using 178 amax's and Reloader 15? This will be for my GAP-10 that should be getting finished soon.

43.1 grains RL15, seat bullet to 2.8 C.O.A.L.

I started working up a load using RE15, 175AMAX, and Lapua brass for my Remington 7005R. It just didndt seem to like them as much as the 175SMK so I just kind of stopped the process. Perhaps revisit it again. I'm going to try some of the Berger 175gr OTM Tacticals as I read they are a secant/tangent hybrid and are perhaps more tolerent to jump that the AMAX. The COAL on those AMAX loads juping them .010 or 020 was nuts.

Has anyone used the Hornady 178 BTHP? I've got about 300 of them. I've got Varget, Rl-15, 4895, and some 748.

Norma Brass @ 2.005"
168gr SMK
41.5 gr H4895
Federal GM210
2.800" COAL (2.246 ogive)
Easy .5 MOA at 200 yards, smallest groups was about 3/4" at 200 yards. All rounds touching end to end if i do my part. Somewhere around 2600 FPS out of my Remington 700 5R Milspec 24"
43.5 GR was the max load which grouped O.K., I have yet to play with seating depth though.
