I should try the 130 smk. I have always like sierra bullets ..... hopefully dont get blasted for that lol. I've shot alot of the 140 hybrids with good results. For what ever reason my last 2 x47 did not like the 130 at hybrids.

I've been shooting 140 Hybrids through 10+ x47L barrels the last few years. But these sierras are cheaper, high BC and super accurate. Win win if you ask me. Consistent as hell to in weight and base to ogvie

What speed where you getting with the 130s and bbl length? I'll run some.numbers. I've not tried them yet. I was not expecting great results with the 150s but with the bc and speed I am.getting numbers are good. I'm 8 mil to 1k. I'd like to see the drift between the 150 and and 130

37.7 gr Varget, 135 berger classic, 19" barrel, chrono'd today at 2670 fps. Plugged it into jbm, dialed up and shot a 2.9" group at 1000. Great shooting conditions today, but quite happy with it. Buddy gave me 2 pounds of varget, so have enough to load up for this fall's hunts and a bit more shooting this spring/summer.

What's a good hunting bullet around 120gn with a reasonable bc?
Lately I've been taking my x47 hunting and the 123 Scenars are great on steel but terrible on game.
I'd prefer to stick with one bullet to do both.

I recently read that IMR 4166 Enduron Smokeless Powder is very similar to Varget, though i've not yet had a chance to try it. I know many have had good luck with RL 15 and H4350.
4166 is a faster powder than Varget but only slightly. The issues I had with it is very narrow load window. My 6.5x47 is doing awesome with RL-15 and Lapua 123 Scenars.

thanks...i'll see if i can find some RL15
for some reason i couldn't get a great load from the 4350 but i didn't spend too much time on it as i was, at the time, doing ok with Varget.

Everybody preaches the almighty praise for Hodgdon powders but I have had horrible luck with getting consistent loads from them, and Varget was the worst. Powder was never the same from lot to lot and I just don't load enough to justify buying 8lb jugs of it to keep it the same. I got tired of reworking loads. H4350 was always good but getting harder to find now for some reason?

H4350 works well too and little easier on the throat

4350 didn't give me the speeds I wanted out of the 47. Switched to varget, love it.

How much more speed does Varget give in the x47 compared to H4350?

Found 24lbs of the latter when I got my rifle built so never messed with Varget.

@padom nailed it.

I found pressure with H4350 sooner than Varget with the same speeds.

Not sure if barrel life is much shorter with Varget but that is in someone else realm that has used both and have gone through barrels with both.

I've gone through many with both.. i didn't find any noticeable difference

Thanks, gents. Will just stick with my H4350 load until I run out of the 20+ lbs I still have.

Just watch for pressure.. you will be good!

No pressure issues over the past two years using H4350. Would like the ES to be a little lower, but this works fine for the matches I use it in so I stopped fussing with it.

Loading some groups for node testing now. How far did you jump them to the lands?

Anyone tried Alliant AR-COMP in 6.5x47? I have few jugs of it for 223/308 and want to have a backup powder when my H4350 and Varget ran out and I cant find anymore, which is going to happen.
I did try 36gr of AR-Comp with 123NOS CCs just to see what happens. While Stdev/ES were pretty good at least for me, ( 6 and 18 for 20 shots, 2875fps ave) it grouped about an inch for two 5 shots groups which is not very good. I only use the 123CC for practice/fun so I don't really care that 123CC's didnt group well. Just wondering if it's worth trying better bullets with AR-Comp.

My real loads are 130ELD/42.3H4350 @2958FPS, 139SCENAR/41.7H4350 @2880fps and 140ELD 37.3 Varget 2805FPS and about to try 130 OTM Hybrids with Varget. 26" Barrel

Hey guys hope you're doing well in this crap. I'm wondering if anyone has tried shooters world precision with a 6.5x47, everything I've read online seems to say that it's similar to varget. Anyone have any experience?

I've only used varget and still working up a ladder for that. I have reloader 16 loaded too but havent shot it yet

My brother and I are both running varget, lapua brass, 140 hybrids, I'm running fgmm primers he's running 450s I'm loading 37.1 for the hybrids and 37.3 for 140 eldms, he just ran 100 at 38 grains, but whatever we feed them its usually the same tiny groups. We regularly shoot 2-3" at 600 yards I love it. Both running pva buttons on a tl3 and origin. Awesome cartridge. I really want to try the shooters world precision though.

I've only worked up to 35.3gr under a 144gr Berger. Was rather slow and no real pressure signs. 24" proof from straight jacket armory. On a origin. What's your barrel length and speed?

24in m24, 37.1 grains of varget, 140 berger, 20 thou off lands, fgmm primer, north fl 75 degrees ish 2720 measured with magneeto speed v3.

My brother has a 26 in, 450 primer, 140 Berger 20 thou off lands, 38 grains of varget clocked yesterday an average of 2800 ish maybe a hair more, 80 ish degrees.

I think I'm a half mil lower than him at 850 yards.

Definitely work up slow, I think 35.3 is on the low side get it up to 36.5-37.5. I believe my brother said he was getting some slightly heavier bolt lift at 38 grains, I shot all the way up to 38.2 with no issues. I wouldn't go any further than that because of brass wear

I've got a solid Varget load worked up, 36.8gr with 140hybrids getting me about 2750fps out of a 26" barrel.
Just got my hands on a couple containers of Vihtavuori N540, since it was looking like Varget might be hard to get from now on. Anybody have a load worked up with N540?

I have 2 loads for my AT: 1, 40.1gr H4350, 140 gr ELD, 0.015' jump, this load gets 2800 fps out of 26'' barrel with sd ~5. I was able to get 0.3-0.4MOA 5 shot group with this.
2, 36.5 gr Varget, 140 gr Berger hybrid target, 0.015' jump, 2760 fps, sd ~5, also about 0.3-0.4 MOA 5-shot group

I'm seating the 140s at 2.145" base-to-ogive, and that's about 20thou from the lands. I kinda stopped chasing any further loads to try and get more speed...this seemed like a good balance between speed, accuracy, and recoil.

I went and shot part of the ladder I I had loaded up with H100V and 123CC unfortunately my battery on the MS died and the new spare I had was totally dead.
But up until that point all was looking good and the speeds were pretty decent.
No signs of pressure for the 7 rounds I shot but will have to go back out with a fresh battery and finish the string.
Rifle specs are as follows.

I also ran a ladder with AA4064 that tracked pretty close to the H100V ladder before the battery died. The velocity was pretty good atleast in my opinion and seemed to show a nice low and high node for what this barrel consistently has shown with Varget being low node at 2850fps range and high node in the 2950fps range with the 123CC.

I got out and finished with the last ladder I had today with a new battery in the MS.
It appears that AR-COMP is the powder I have been looking for to use with the 123CC.
It showed the least amount of vertical spread through the charge range even though it was the fastest burn rate but had acceptable accuracy so will give this one more attention.

nice job with the AR comp and 123CC's! Whats the charge weight in the pic? I'm about to load 150-200 rounds with AR Comp and 123CC's virgin brass and new barrel so I can have once fired brass and start load development with 130s/140s hybrids and Varget. I typically use the 123CCs/AR Comp for practice and plinking for my 6.5x47/260 barrels since I have plenty of AR-Comp and got 2k 123CCs and a really good deal. On my last 6.5x47 barrel I tried 35gr AR-Comp/123CCs and got 2847FPS ES18 SD6 out of 20rounds and grouped 3/4". Good enough for my purpose but after looking at that pic maybe I should revisit this combo

The pic is the group from the 10 shot ladder and the reason I was thinking AR-COMP would be my preferred powder with the 123CC since it showed the least amount of vertical dispersion through all of the charge weights.
Honestly I was kind of expecting to see some pressure signs with AR-COMP considering it's faster burn rate but it has surprised me before with excellent results in other calibers such as the 68spc that there wasn't any data to be found with it.
Every other powder I have tried with them ( Varget, AA4064, H100V ) had atleast double that.

The highest I ran up to with Varget was 37.8 @ 2950fps but the barrel was new and I'm sure it has speeded up a little since since then I just haven't gone back and checked it again with that powder.
It didn't seem to like Varget to much with the 123CC but is amazing with the 130HVLD jammed .010" over 37.0 grains.

We’re running the 120 to keep recoil down a bit. 6-700 more rounds and then his next barrel will be set up for 130 jlk bullets

I have been thinking that the 123CC may be an excellent performer with a little bit of added prep work.
I haven't really tried anything other than just loading and shooting them with slight seating depth test and think they would really shine if weight sorted into batches and then further sorted within those batches by bearing surface.
I need to see how consistent they really are and personally feel they will perform more along the lines of the beloved Lapua 123 if sorted.
