Accuracy Int'l Coopermatch

@FatBoy have you considered having the firing pin hole bushed/turning down the firing pin?

I considered having LRI do it BUT there are so few of these that it doesn't make sense to permanently modify it. If Tom could have sourced me a new bolt head and firing pin maybe, but I never heard back.

Sporting Services have some scope mounts in the sale section of their website that might be of use for your rifle.
Not sure what makes that coopermatch worth 9k except that you can't get one. Some of the Palmamasters were 5 round repeaters. VERY few of those.

I've have burned out three 6.5x284s barrels though mine, all Borders. It wears a Border 6.5x47 now which shoots great but the whorishly large firing pin and hole crater primers badly so I rarely shoot it as I don't want to pierce and have to have a pin or head made. If I could post the pics I just took I would but Comcast is bogged down by my neighbors flapping to pornhub.

Oh, looks like be finished....

That's a custom Ti 20moa rail I had made because the one piece doesn't get the proper eye relief in the prone or repeat. I also has the 4 way buttplate made as the rubber one just goes up and down. A nice piece for what it is. Its reliable and solid but light with the pine laminate stock. The bolt head is replaceable but I don't have the magnum bolt head.

Best part of the pic is ome of View attachment 7288092my sweet mini-Aussie wondering why I'm fucking with her rest...

Thanks a bunch for replying sir. What kind of steel is used in the SR25 barrels you make? Aside from chrome lining, why is chrome moly(I believe 4150 CMV?) specified by the .mil for full auto/carbine use?

Haha, must be all this cooped up nonsense.

11595 spec calls out for three types of 41XX for many mil barrels. But there are other steels used for full auto which the military does allow or waive or specifically call out for that particular barrel assembly, most of which are a 'cleaner' grade more suitable for cold hammer forge production . Read Hatchers Notebook especially the sections that deal with failure, whether receiver or barrel. Theres a reason its hard to convince the mil, you better have some good data behind you to get that waiver.

How you doin FatBoy? PM me I've got some pics for ya

Thanks

I did see something about Eugene Stoner being put in touch with one of Springfield's gunsmiths after the AR10 composite barrel burst incident, so that the gunsmith/machinist could rework some T44 barrels for the AR10, because said barrels were 4150 CMV which will stand up to higher temps better..

Well I can attest to this. We use the same steel I started purchase orders in 2009, buying in 45T at a time and bringing in 45 T at a time. In other words it's our mill run.

Not all barrels are run by 11595 spec, there are waivers and specific callouts in the mil specs. Look up M240 and M249 barrel steel specs for example. Your 'puter might crash its so secret.

That Bleiker is calling my name...
BTW, we, meaning Border, made most of Blieker's barrels before they started rolling their own. so there are some jewel cut rifle bleikers out there

You wouldn't happen to have a link to a web page(or maybe even a auction with some of his stuff with a still-active/viewable auction details/web page, provided his family sold some/any of his rifles thru an auction when he passed?) w/ details & pics of some of his rifle collection would ya?
I never heard what transpired with Mac,s collection of stuff. Maybe John knows more.
He was a honorable and always jovial man.

Pretty sure Grunig and Elmiger do cut rifling in-house tho.. and Id have to imagine their rifles are just as nice as Bleikers.. for some reason they dont seem to be as popular/prominent as Bleiker tho..

Maybe Bleiker got out of the bbl game, know they were working on getting into it just after I left Scotland. Grunig and Elminger a definite ex customer. Glad to see them trying to roll their own, maybe Geoff helped them out

I don't have a favorite per say. Besides the AI I have several Barnards, two in Eliseo stocks and one is a beautiful piece of Claro cut to a Sitman Prone profile. Two Panda style actions in Sitman Prone synthetics with Anachutz 5018 triggers. A 6Dasher in a Robertson orginal built off of an old M70 LA with a CG trigger probably a few I'm forgetting.

The Robertson original is probably the most comfortable stock, just edging out the Sitman prones. The wood stock recoil is hands down the most pleasant. The Walnut as well as the laminate Pine of the AI. No vibrations, etc and its always warm to the touch. I haven't warmed up to the tubegun. The barnard is a superb action, really no reason to look elsewhere unless you want a pretty action. I tried the tubegun because my chest size and collar bone shape makes it very awkward to get the rifle in the pocket and get good head position. I end up shooting off my collar bone to take the tension off my neck and this causes all sorts of bad shit to happen, both downrange and under my jacket. The cast off the Eliseo buttplate allows fixes this but I am so used to traditional stocks that the pistol grip is extremely uncomfortable. I need to play around with some alternate grips (currently and A2) before I pass final judgement.

I find that as long as my hand and head position are the same and my triggers are set up basiclly the same, I can tell very little difference between the rifles once I'm slung up. The caliber makes more difference than anything else, and I am slowly gravitating toward using medium sized 6mm, though I maintain bigger rifles just in case I feel I might need them for conditions.

Well, dont forget this monstrosity, the Walther WA2000. Of course if you bought one, you could sell it now and have a nice little retirement nest egg.

That’s a dream rifle of mine. I saw one listed on gunbroker for 45k about 4 or 5 months ago. Wish I could afford it. It’s either buy the rifle or send the kids to school....

You said the AI's can be pretty stiff, have you ever shot a RPA? If so how'd they compare?

Yes. Like lifting a Goddamn log. The Quadlite is not too bad. The Quadlock is a beast.
Have you ever ran across a Gilkes Ross? And what do you think makes the Barnard so smooth? Do Barnards need the firing pin hole bushed/etc for small primer rounds?

Yes, I've handled Gilkes/Ross. Its OK but Mike Ross is a liberal cunt. That bastard started the 30mm front sight trend too, and his BS is the reason Waybe Forshee started making Right Sights. The Gilkes/Ross design is neat and they shoot well but most guys I know who still shoot them have moved away from the barrel clamp and gone to traditional bedding.

I don't know what makes the Barnard so good or the bolt lift so light but they are wonderful. IMO an ugly duck that is the best bargain in a single shot target action on the market. Unless you have some sort of weight requirement that would prevent you from using one, or you can't get one, they should be #1 in you consideration for an Any Rifle.

Barnard comes small pin. They need nothing and come with a fantastic trigger. They are a hideous black tube with a blahh handle, but they shoot so well it doesn't matter.
