Badger M2013 in 338LM

Parked my bolt over the weekend. Used the black predip before parking.
Next, everything is off to Mark at SAC.

I have received my rifle! The M2013 is vastly improved over the M2008. The bolt lift is much lighter and I like the new bolt knob much better then the old round one.
First 10 shots out of the barrel were all .5" easily and we had horrible mirage today. Once zeroed I took it out to 800 yards and of course like always GAP delivers a hammer with the help of a Bartlein Barrel!

:D

That sure didn't take them long... I thought GAP was 6-9 months lead time these days?

As an aside, mine came back from melonite today.

I had a pre-made barrel that got screwed on. Action coated and dropped into a stock equipped with a chassis. I waited as long as they told me.
The end result was well worth the time invested.

Glad to hear to you received your rifle. I'm having GAP build on my M2013/KRG. Ken said build time is looking like 6 months about a month ago....

Think you could go back and change the title of this thread, as it morphed into the general catch-all M2013 action thread?

I'm just thinking for future posterity and reference purposes...?

Here's mine! Just finished scoping it today. This is my first totally custom rifle, I'm really impressed with the action and all the work by Badger and Phoenix Custom Rifles. Many thanks to both for making this rifle possible.

Thanks Deano! The action is extremely smooth, and a bit of oil makes it glide beautifully. As for accuracy, the Badger/Schneider barreled action should shoot tight groups; especially when I get some dies and work up a load. The action is impressively heavy and has a long tenon, which should help stabilize the Schneider. I've never had one of Gary's barrels shoot anything less than outstandingly. They have served the Marine Corps for a long time and I have no doubts this one will out shoot me.

What kind of groups are they producing with bartlein or krieger

You do realize the barrel has more to do with accuracy than the receiver right? If a good gun plumber installs a quality tube any action will shoot, so your question would be better suited to ask the person who is chambering your rifle.

A quality barrel on this receiver will out shoot most people, same as any quality action.

First day at the range, and an unbelievable performance from my 338 M2013 build. The initial zero was at 25yds and then straight to 1200 on a KD range. Ballistic AE on my phone was spot on, and with its data my wife and I were ringing a 19"x27" steel plate. Southern AZ's shifting winds in the hot mid day can be a frustrating challenge, but this rifle overcame it to perform incredibly well. My wife only got on the gun for 10 minutes, and hit 3 for 3 at 1200 with no warm up at all; except for reading her book while I was shooting! Hope you guys all get your rifles built and shooting soon, it's by far my favorite rifle I've ever had :)

Those are slick looking rigs. I wish they would make them in left handed.

My first choice was badger but I wanted a left hand and that wasn't happening. I am happy with my Deviant left bolt, right port (but secretly waiting on a left 2013)

I agree. Mine is in .308 on an AICS stock as well. Chad Dixon built for me.

Very nice. I was wondering if you were going to get that thing together. :)
She looks good all in one piece.

Send me a pic once you bloody something with it. (even a steel plate).

Both builds are back. Big thanks to Mark at Short Action Customs.

I laid down the coating on turtlesniper's .300 WM this weekend.

My .308 is still in need of some color. When I find some time.

the thing looks so clean, and different it makes me want one :(. Its just amazing looking and I imagine the groups are the same!

Gotta send the bolt out tomorrow to have it coated by Ionbond in FDE. Doing that for the bolt and Cerakote on the action. Wanted to nitride the bolt but Marty advised against it. Hope to have the bolt back by the time my XLR chassis shows up around July 10th. So I can send it all out as one box for assembly.

How long did it take to get it ionbonded? My dealer said 4-8 weeks, I'm hoping that's not typical gun-industry math.

I was quoted same as you but everyone I talked to said to expect up to 4 months. I said screw it and had the action parkerized then had MGordon Cerakote over the parkerizing. Happy with how it came out, was nervous the bolt would bind but it doesn't.

That's what I'm worried about, I'm at week 5 and have a PRS match at week 11. Hopefully they'll come through, I've managed to find some 162 Amax's, RE17, and even some 284 brass. I'm borrowing Turtlesniper's 284 barrel to get it running.

Yours looks great, I have a Multicam'd XLR waiting for mine.

What height Spuhr mount is that? Super sick rifle! I'm debating having Mark do an M2013 build for me similar to yours OR buying the new AI AT.

It took 10 weeksat Ionbond, I have it in hand but will use Turtlesniper's M2008 for the PRS match, it's too close to experiment. I'm looking forward to getting it going, the Ionbond is smooooth.

Looks good Red. You sure you don't want to screw a barrel on and zero it Friday at Woody's?

I hate to admit that I considered it! I just love going to matches with new, untested gear for some reason. I already had an unexplained zero shift Saturday, I'm not going to push my luck- this time.

Cerakoted bolt runs fine after using it a bit. Love this rifle :)

Eugh, yeah it appears that I was running the "potatocamera" app when I took that.

Does anyone have a 338 M2013 in an AX with the top rail matching the AX handguard rail?

I did, its a 260, I have a pic without the barrel on page 4. Somewhere in the rifle porn there is a complete pic. The Badger rail is like .110" shorer than the AX rail. I asked Badger if they would make a rail taller to match and they weren't interested a year ago.

I've seen several short actions in the AX, but never a 338 action. I know there are issues with the total length of the action vs the chassis.

How expensive is the ionbond? Is there anyone else that coats Ionbond?

I'll have to look at the paperwork when I get back home. Ionbond is a trade name but you may be able to find a similar coating from a competitor. I've been very happy with it so far, the action is very smooth. Whenever I get a long action, I'll have it done as well.

How did this build turn out?

We need more pictures of this action!

She's not 'done', I'm about 10 months into the wait for a KMW Sentinel, but this is it as it sits today. XLR stock for now, chambered in .284 Win. It shoots better than it has a right to. I have a 6mm Bartlein barrel sitting here to chamber in 6mm SuperLR, but I haven't decided whether to put it on this rifle or try my hand at making a barrel for a gas gun.
