Bighorn Origin Build Thread

Here is my 175g load for it. 10B2017F-3140-49A3-B816-6E26F44EC1F7.jpeg

I saw a couple in the past, but who has had their origin SA cut for Wyatt’s box? And if so would you mind posting a pic of what the bottom of the action looks like after it was done?

Had Gunware build my dream hunting rifle recently. Bare rifle was just shy of 7lbs, total weight was right at 10lbs.

Bighorn Origin long action magnum
Proof carbon fiber 20 inch 1-10 twist 300 Winchester magnum
Manners Eh1 stock
Hawkins Precision long action DBM CIP length
TriggerTech special trigger
Nightforce NX8 2.5-20x50
ARC M10 Rings
Silencerco Omega 30 can

What magazine(s) work well for you?

So Hawkins a makes a CIP and CIP+ version of there dbm. The CIP is for ai mags, and the CIP+ is for accurate mags. I was able to use accurate mags in the CIP version but I had to trim the mag catch slightly on the accurate magazine to fit the dbm. Just get the right version of the dbm for the mags your going to use and you’ll be fine.
I’m now using the Hawkins hunter dbm and magazine but had to shim the dbm for use with my 300wm since the brass is belted.

So "CIP" is 3.775 and "CIP+" is 3.850 ?

Whats everyone's favorite bolt knob? I have a helical diamond and I'm thinking of going to the spiral extended. Anyone use both?

Are there any Black Friday sales on the Origin as of today? Thanks

Tactical knob, but switching to Competition knob.
I just bought an Origin and automatically went with the Tactical knob, but I should have put more thought into it and looked at the Competition knob. The Area 419 also looks good and is similar to the bolt knob on my MPA, but more money right now is tough as I am already way over budget.

When I get the barreled action from Keystone, I may try exchanging the Tactical for the Competition too. Hopefully Northland Shooters Supply will work with me? Or Zermatt direct?

Contact Zermatt direct. They have awesome CS.

Zermatt should work with you. They exchange a rail for me. Just paid shipping.

Loaded some 155gr amax last night and got him zerod and ready for hunting season. I forget how much i really like the origin. When i was running it out to 800 i chambered a round and had to press check because i didn’t feel the origin pick up the round. I’m sure part of that is my now 10 year old aics 5rder with a 2rd extension. But man if it doesn’t create a perfect combo.

Bighorn origin we threw together as a Christmas gift for my mom. Straight Jacket Armory did the chambering, install, and cerakoting.

- Origin short action chambered in 6 CM
- Bartlein #13 Carbon 1:7.5 twist, finished at 18", threaded 5/8x24
- Triggertech Primary flat blade
- Manners PRS2 "Back in black" with Gen 2 mini-chassis
- Area 419 Arca plate

Waiting on glass at this point - planning to toss a Leupold Mark 5 3-18x on it. Also have a Manners Compact Stock 2 on order (same color). With the adjustable LOP, we felt this would fit her frame a bit better.

Bighorn Origin just received from Front Range
24” Proof Comp Contour in 6mm Creedmoor - bought from a member here with 100 rounds on it.
Area 419 Hellfire
JAE 700b Chassis with Arca rail
Trigger Tech Diamond 2 Stage Flat
Topped with my budget Vortex Viper HS scope I took off my AR (not pictured) - Temp Scope

Put it all together in my basement last night and took it to the range this evening to see how it will shoot. I’m pretty pleased with this kind of performance from factory 108s

I sent the cert in Dec. I'm not in any hurry, I was curious about a general time to expect a notice to pay the rest I owed.

Mike

Here's mine.

Origin left hand action chambered in .223 Wylde by Keystone Accuracy, with:
  • 26 inch Rock Creek, cut rifled, 7 twist, Remington Varmint contour barrel
  • MPA Hybrid chassis
  • TriggerTech Special trigger
  • Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56 FFP MRAD
  • Vortex PMR Rings
Initial results with 69 SMK's, GMM and 25.3 gr of Varget at 2.260", have been stellar. Also working up a load for Hornady 75 ELD-M's- 24.2 gr of H4895, .015 off the lands, is looking good so far.
