To those that think Texas can't raise a Militia, on short notice , I beg to differ, I go to two different ranges in the llano Texas area on a regular basis, and there's always a good number of shooters at both places , sometimes at the smaller one you have to wait for a lane to shoot , at the larger one , reviley peak range ,one weekend there was a event put on by a group called the sheepdog something or other , and there must have been a couple of hundred members there ,and they took over the range for a weekend , thy evidently have regular meetings there , so there's no shortage of like minded patriots out there .and that's just one group , looking at the ranges calendar there's other groups as well , I don't belong to any of them , it seems to be mostly the younger crowd and I'm old , but that's the ones we need anyway , us old farts are too slow, and get in the way.

it’s not like that around arizona. sure there are lots of californicators here and phoenix is just east california but we have a lot of patriot gun owning dude that are plenty pissed off and just waiting until we lose cabin pressure. rural az is pretty red too.
even liberal tucson has a huge conservative gun owning base. lots of guys out shooting on weekends in the spots i go. consecutive stickers and gun stickers on trucks so not just gun owning libs out there. i even see the mexicans with those but i wouldn’t trust them much in a fight, since i’m white and there is a lot of angst in the young hispanics.

I also register for draws on hunts on public land in Texas. TPWD offers these drawings.
For example, the public hunting land in Fannin County is managed by the US Forestry Service. I have met Jacob, the local guy there at the deer check station on fm 409. I always register to get a gun hunt for doe. On that property, you can hunt doe with archery. You can only gun hunt a doe or anterless with a USFS permit.
Anywho, one of the other drawings I enter is for the mule deer hunt in the Caprock Canyon SP near Turkey, Texas (south and east of Amarillo.) Normally, it is just for hiking and rugged camping. But, for about a week or so in the winter, they close it down to just hunters. Not a lot of trees to hide in. The hunt description from the state says that you need to be able to shoot to at least 200 yards. It will possibly be farther. There are no trees to hide in, just scrub brush and rocks. And the mule deer will not let you catch them by putting salt on their tails.

Welcome to Texas, the patron state of shooting stuff at a distance farther than your grandma's back fence. People out here are good with rifles and shooting tiny targets at long distances.

A friend of mine is a Sergeant for Texas State Troopers. All Troopers have been having to do rotations down on the border. He is based out of Ennis, and has to go to the border every month. And it's been that way for years. I rarely see a State Trooper in North Texas.
Maybe DPS finally got though to the governor, telling him their resources are spread too thin.

Where did you find that large a range around Llano. I owned the place thats now a B&B below for quite a few years, shot with Bill Edwards, Constable of Llano county, dont remember any that large. There is a nice place up in San Saba, Delta Red Training.

I'll take issue with that, as many (most all) I know hate want is going on worst than most here, to the point some have been fired or bitch slapped do to them pushing back. You can never lump any segment into the same pot, no matter the profession.
Reality has not escaped me at all. He is just one of many Texas Law Enforcement friends. Most are city Police. A list of about 20 men. They are pro-gun, pro people being armed, and absolutely decent human beings. All have told me they would have zero part in any unconstitutional order, including attempting to disarm any law abiding citizens. They've also said it would be a good way to get dead. PD Snipers, Detectives, SRO's, K-9, SWAT all friends of mine. Damn good men. They are welcome at my home anytime. I mule deer hunt with 6 of them every December. We've spent countless hours around the fire drinking whiskey. I know better from what you say.
P.S.
100% of them were outraged at the Uvalde incident. 100% of them said those officers should have entered and got in the fight! Innocent children were being killed and those on scene failed to do their job. All of them told me protocol now days is even if just one officer is on scene, that officer goes in and engages. If he dies, he dies. That's the job they signed up for.
