So after brewing some beer, I decided to rattle can my rifle that I just got back from Manners. . . . . MERICA! By the way, thanks again to Manners, the stock turned out fantastic. I took my time and spent probably about 2 hours taping and prepping my rifle, so I got that part right. I think the shade of green might be a little too light, but I'm hoping it'll grow on me. Theres a couple of blemishes here and there, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. Lemme know what you guys think, it's not exactly professional, but I made due with what I had (learned improvising early on in my military career hahaha). Also made due with my iPhone camera, hope you guys approve.

Some more pics. The camera doesn't show the tan that well on some of them.

You know, that was a VERY well done job!! I am really impressed. The scope looks very nice. You lost no functionality in the turrets.

You see kids, it is proper prep work that creates a complete and professional paint job.

Well done and you should have another beer. I just wonder, does more beer mean a better paint job? Hummm…. ;-)

Haha well we'll find out when I paint my 17HMR. The Hefeweizen I brewed a few weeks ago should be done this week, so a T&E as to the benefits of having a beer or two will be in the works haha.

edit: and thank you for the kind words.

I masked everything off. Used the 3M blue painters tape and an exacto knife. For the base of the turrets, I used scotch tape so that I could tell where I needed to cut and still be able to see the lines/ numbers.

I see what you mean by it growing on you. It will. Nice job.

Looks awesome! I just Krylon'd my pcp air rifle a day ago.

Looks excellent. I just did the same, will take some pics and post.

exactly detailing...........be careful in laying it down you may not find it again.........nice looking rifle!!!!!!!!!!!

nice work. keep the green you have. You're better off being lighter then darker in most cases. If you get into any shadows it will darken and give you a better contrast. It's a good color, keep it.

What did you do to prep the metal for paint? I'm planning to Krylon my glossy-blue barreled action to a plain, flat black but I don't have any clue as to how to prep the metal to make sure the paint sticks...at least for a little while.

About all I have ever done (if anything) is scuff everything with a green scotchbrite pad. It is very important to degrease everything well. MEK, denatured alcohol or just straight rubbing alcohol if you have it. Don't touch it after degreasing with your bare hands. Oils in your skin will possibly create an issue. Krylon is pretty tough stuff and sticks to nearly anything so minimal effort is needed honestly, just relaying what I do.

honestly....if you are kryloning it......you dont need to do super in depth cleaning.......take a rag and some alcohol and give it a quick wipe down.

the paint job isnt going to last long enough anyways with any significant use......and its easy enough to touch up

I just spray paint directly on to the sponge, here's an HS precision stock I did a few weeks ago, sprayed matte clear over it when I was done.

This one looks real sick. It's even the colors i would use here where I'm at with the exception of the light green. For the terrain/foliage where I'm at i would have used a light yellowish brownish color instead of that light green but nonetheless, sick job.

Yea, i wasn't a fan of it at first, but it gives a nice contrast and you can see how it's pretty close to the color of some of the bermuda grass in bright sun. It's all krylon :)

Just curious as to how long you guys expect the krylon to stick? Thinking of doing an ar with a white camo for yote hunting in the winter snow. Any white camo pics?

I took a previously Krylon-ed AR to a Cerakote class I attended and just about never got all of the paint off...even after sitting it in acetone and sandblasting.
Use primer a couple of coats of color, with a couple of coats of clear and it will last for a while.

One of these days I will bring myself to tape and paint. Does anyone have a specific type of paint they've seen better results with?
