I have shipped firearms periodically for years. Have always used UPS for convenience and price. Shipped a rifle yesterday and they were going to charge a $12 up chg because the rifle was not in a "cardboard" bx. Rifle was in a hardcase with wireties through security holes and gorilla tape around latches. $44 dollars to ship to Idaho w/1300 worth of insurance. Told em to Hell No! Then pissed went to Post Office and pd $50 to ship rifle. Then came home and got on USPS website to look up rules on shipping firearms and got screwed there too. Fedex is not an option where I live. How do you ship firearms?

Re: Firearms shipping questions

Im so sneaky, look at me I am a dishonest POS! Boy, I thought I was so smart too! You sure did get me. And here I thought I could lose $200 on a scope I just bought here on the hide for $1200 and throw in a $70 throw lever to boot. Boy selling an item to hide members for a smoking deal, some member huh?! Your right though, I should have taken my time upping my post count by crapping on other threads too. Then I could have price gouged some members! Damn, I should have stayed in rocket science class, then Id be as intelligent as you!

Re: Firearms shipping questions

I never heard of an extra charge for not shipping in a cardboard box. Even so, UPS has been the best for me. If you were shipping in a regular box, the cost of $32 including $1300 insurance was not bad. the insurance alone was over $10 as they charge .85 per $100 over the first $100 of declared value. Did they say the gun case required "special handling"? I would say BS if they did.

Finding boxes suitable for long guns isn't easy. I always save rifle boxes and especially the overboxes for shipping if I resell later. I don't want the package to obviously scream rifle inside so i would have put the hard case in a box IF one could found in that size. A long flat box might be a rifle, but could be something else too. A hard case is pretty obvious.
