First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

My wife works for a local power co-op.

They had a board meeting yesterday and apparently one of the old people parked next to her new car in his monster truck and let the door fly open as if he were on the farm feeding the hogs.

The first payment is due next month.

Next board meeting she's driving my old Toyota and squaring things!

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

Everything I buy new the first thing I do is ding or scuff it. It frees you mind from worrying about it.

Look at tit this way tuck, the old bastard did you a favor. You should thank him.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

A car or truck is to me what a rifle is to some here--just a tool. Imagine the dogpiling that would ensue if a newbie posted about a scratch on his new sniper rifle!

Or, just a thought, buy used and let someone else subsidize the initial depreciation.

Agreed. I'm a huge advocate a 'MASSIVE DENT for your ding' in the case of an inconsiderate bastards.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

When I was in High School my Mom drove a 57 Oldsmobile Super 88 that my dad and I built for her . That thing was an idiot magnet no matter where she parked it someone in a Datsun B210 or some other car that was never new would park as close as they could and put a chip in the paint . I remember going to a movie one night as a family in it and Dad parked it in the back 40 . Sure as shit when we came out someone had jammed a Fiat X19 as close as they could to it and left another ding . My Dad had to pull the Olds out for us to get in and while us kids were all loading up my Mom went and Donkey kicked the shit out of both doors on that Fiat caving both sides in . I had never seen her that mad before but it was pretty funny to watch .

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

Try a ding repair place. We have a real good guy that comes out each week. He doesn't paint. You can not tell the dent or ding was even there after he is done. Most are about $100 retail but should be less if it is just one dent. The other option would be take it back to the dealer as they will have a dent repair guy out.

Ha, that's a pretty good way to put it. Sometimes you just see those cars on the road and you think to yourself, "There is now way that that car was EVER new on a showroom floor."

That shit cracked me up man.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

Parked my three week old car in a Walmart parking lot last week. Always park down the row so other cars will not park next to me. Someone in an old beater truck backed into the tailgate and put in a $700 dent. One guy saw it but did not get the license plate number. Also checked the store security tapes and nothing caught.
The dent repair places are worth it and do a great job. Mine needed a little more than dent repair.

Agreed, good dent guys are magicians. I've seen someone ready to shell out $500-$1,000 because they thought that a door or fender was completely repainted....then thrilled to find out the dent guy fixed it for $85.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

I may have a dent expert look at it.
I haven't laid eyes on it yet. She just noticed it this morning.
She's getting them to go through security footage to see if they can ID the one that did it.

Years ago I was sitting in a parking lot at the grocery store, waiting for my wife to pick up a few items.

A HUGE car the size of a Carnival Cruise ship parked next to the car in front of me. The 400 pound door flew opened to reveal a 400 pound woman in the driver's seat.
While the door edge lay firmly wedged against the neighboring vehicle's door, the fat bitch shifted around in her boat trying to get her massive ass off the seat. With every movement, her door edge grinded up and down against the other vehicle, gouging a hefty groove into it.

I got out and yelled, "What the Hell are you doing?!". She tilted her fat face so she could see past her own cheeks and just looked at me as though I was from another planet.

I waited for the other driver to return and told them what had happened. They stormed off into the store to find Mrs. Kong and to confront her about it.

My grandfather was a lifelong mechanic and by the time I was a little kid helping him he had amassed a substantial set of tools. His "tools" were his lifeblood and treated as such. Putting a ding or two in a tool that sees hard use is one thing. Purposefully tearing shit up so you can claim "it's just a tool" is another.

And lord help the inconsiderate dumbass that can't respect other peoples property.

Owned one of them Datsun's in the Philippines. No way in hell I was taking my Firebird over there. Great car. Lasted me 3 years & even sold it still running strong.

It's those kind of cars that I look out for on the road because those kind of cars don't seem to care if they get hit or not.

I agree, I won't buy new. 'Cause when the first scratch or ding got on it I would lose my mind. ... & I know it's just a car. If it's used then my dings won't matter.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

I bought my first new car ever last summer. 3 days after bringing it home
My GF tips the trashcan over and out tumbles a hunk of broken cinder block which gushes and scrapes down to the metal 4 large vertical gashes about 7 inches long.

It was new for a day.....

So what happened to the fatty and her vehicle abuse?

I do not believe that perpetuates the stereotype. That is definetely the exception to the rule.

Nice looking car, by the way.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

I feel your pain. Bought a new 2011 Suburban in September - a guy slid into the driver door in a parking lot and dented the door - nothing huge but it'll be almost a grand to fix it.

He was driving on a suspended license.
His insurance wasn't paid up so it was not in effect.

He went and got insurance to avoid the no-insurance ticket, but of course that wasn't in place when the accident happened so he wasn't covered. His insurance lady was happy to tell me that.

He won't return phone calls. Off to small claims to waste my time, and then to pay someone else to collect, more time wasted and no way to collect the full amount of the repair. Some people really suck.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

My brand new Tacoma was my baby, till a short time later I'm sitting in traffic and an Army Pvt not paying attention totals his '84 Caddy into the back of it. The only satisfaction I got out of it was seeing how bad his car was compared to my truck.

Sacralige! You should have used a hotter Datsun or Nissan motor in it!
An old friend of mine had one in 'blue suede' paint and it had one of the meanest sounding 1300cc's I have heard since me an Panty 6 let our Bumble Bee go in Hawaii(lumpy cam, high comp pistons, weber 44 side draft, Hooker header, 2" glasspack out the back)

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

Get over it, it's just a door ding. Your uninsured motorist coverage in VA has a $200 deductible. Take it to a PDR guy, they can probably fix it for $50. That's much cheaper than going to jail for trashing someone elses car. If you use the security camera footage to track the person down without notifying the police they may get you for a stalking charge as well, then good by guns.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

The security camera footage is from her place of work. It would be reviewed as part of an investigation after she files an incident report with the safety officer.

I'm not uninsured. Never have been.

After some discussion at the office, they're reasonably sure that the culprit was an old geezer from the board of directors. It just so happens that most of the rest of the board wants him gone anyway, so management is encouraging her to file a formal complaint against him.

I'm advising her to not get caught up in their politics and that we'll get it fixed ourselves.

KYS338,
I never saw what happened with the fat lady in the parking lot.
Last I saw, the owner of the damaged vehicle was headed into the store to find her.
My wife returned before they came back out and we left.

I agree. I have about $150K in tools and some take a lot of abuse like my air tools. Some of my impacts are $400 or more each, and I always have a spare. I have always tried to use an air tool in place of the abuse a hand tool can do to your body.

I have used tig welding gloves for about 25 or more (Tillman's) and when you get used to them over the years they just become a part of your hand. It has saved my hands so many times. I look at mine and compare them to some of the other "lifers" and mine still look great. As to the many of the tranny guys well the solvents and trans fluid have f'd up their skin real bad. Some have dermatitis that will never go away.

The uninsured motorist coverage is part of your policy and covers you when you are hit by an uninsured or under insured motorist.

It wouldn't matter who owns the security camera, if you use the info gathered on it to exact retribution on someone instead of turning the info over to the police it's a felony, and may carry a stalking charge.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

A buddy of mine has an old pickup that we use for hunting.
It's a crude welded steel bumper on the back and a brush guard on the front.
It has more dents than it does straight sheet metal.

I think I'll borrow it for next month's board meeting.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

New cars are magnets I guess.
I drove it to the grocery store this morning and parked six spaces from anything.
15 minutes later, it was surrounded.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

I swear I'm going to buy some huge pile of crap and drive it around the mall parking lot, parking by the creeps that take up two spots so they have to crawl through the other side to get in their rig.

Re: First Door Ding - Haven't Made a Payment Yet

I have also had a taxi driver park at the gas pump with his bumper ON my 1957 Pro Street VW Beetle. The worst was a woman in a bikini laying on the hood of my 1962 SS Impala Convertible getting pictures taken of her. Police were dispatched on both occasions. My damn Impala was a #1 show car with 19,000 original miles on it and luckily was able to be repaired without paint work. The pics of the yellow Datsun are not mine, but mine was built exactly the same, same powerplant, turbo, cage, tubbed, wheelie bars, etc. just an example of how a proper 510 is built. People in general are idiots when it comes to nice cars. I won't even park next to someone who owns a classic or exotic. All it takes is a gust of wind to lose control of the car door, and I won't be that guy.

I had always parked away from other cars when I had nice vehicles. Had these scratches on my Corvette on the front fenders on the top that used to drive me crazy. Had one of the guys tell me it is from bitches purses that are dragged over the hood of low to the ground vehicles. Dang if I didn't start taking notice and seeing for myself he was right.
