6 weeks?????

OMG. I can't take it any longer.

I'm SUPPOSED to have Dana Pickles as I'm in VA.

Oh well....So much for the excellent "restructuring".

Maybe an optimistic observation, but I have noticed that Form 3 app's have gone from as long as 2 months to a short as 2 days from April to now. Also, I have noticed July app's getting stamps. It appears that times are shrinking not getting longer. I also know of a recent 90 day approval, which is a major improvement over 5+ months. </div></div>

Mine went pending 3 months ago, give or take a day.

Not holding my breath. </div></div>
Me either, I have one still pending from April! WTF??? Four more from July. </div></div>

Hey buddy I hate to tell you this but there are now a bunch of July pendings getting stamps. You need to call in and find out what is going on. Odds are you have a problem, or your stamp was lost in mail, or worse yet sitting on your dealers desk. </div></div>
Yea I figured something was up, don't they tell you though if there's a problem, and or it's not approved? I guess I better call my dealer, get the can serial numbers and call. Do I need just me dealers name or name and license number?

Re: Form 4 wait time

You need to call them and ask to "check the status of a item"

Give them your serial number
Your name under which it was registered
Your dealers name or business name.

They will tell you:
"not yet in the system"
"pending as of ________ "
"approved on __________ "

Re: Form 4 wait time

Accodring to Robin at NFA Branch, she'll also advise if there's a problem status.

Yes, he is my examiner for a form 4 I have pending since 7/15/11. No, it is not approved yet. Yes, I mean "ever". Get this.

Pending times are as follows:

Form 1 - Pending June 29th Approved Oct 25th Snook
Form 1 - Pending <span style="font-weight: bold">August 4th</span> Lamberger
Form 4 - Pending July 11th SantaMaria
Form 4 - Pending July 11th SantaMaria

What the fuck kind of system are they using? How do two Form 1s in the same envelope go pending over a month away from each other?

And why the fuck aren't my suppressors approved yet?

Re: Form 4 wait time

In this era I don't thing anything makes sense. The NFA branch is very understaffed and has rising demand/applications. Oh for the good old days when approvals were completed in less than 3 months...

Re: Form 4 wait time

I just mailed my form 4 individual on 11/14/11.

Item is AAC Cyclone Suppressor.

No clue when ill find out what's going on in the process. I heard I can call after giving the atf a week or so to make sure they get my stuff. do they send you notification in the mail updating you of your status

Re: Form 4 wait time

4+ months. Guess I should just order one every thirty days and then maybe it won't seem so bad.

Re: Form 4 wait time

My SOT just called Sara Jones has sent me four love letters this week! Yeee Hhhhhhaaaaa

Re: Form 4 wait time

How about this?

They take a full six months to review an individual’s application for the new NFA Suppressor License Card. That process unfolds with all the diligence and professionalism required. At the end of that 6 month review period, the applicant receives their NFA Suppressor License Card and they can now legally purchase a suppressor(s) at the appropriate facilities. At the time of purchase, they present their card and the dealer executes a fast track application for transfer to...get ready...a person that is already...that's right...the approved holder of an NFA SUPPRESSOR LICENSE CARD. Nothing leaves with the purchaser until that form is returned to the dealer. The total time to process legitimate, approved NFA Suppressor License Card holders new suppressor purchases will be no more than 30 days, one month. That way, Dealers would have some form of prior identification to distill the process before it even gets to the NFA. The NFA can concentrate their resources on those that...get ready....are not already approved. We have something simple to carry when we transport, use our suppressors, namely the new NFA SUPPRESSOR LICENSE CARD.

And most importantly, it attends to the four major points that drive this thread, namely:

1. It makes absolutely no sense to go through the whole process over and over again.
2. It makes absolutely no sense to go through the whole process over and over again.
3. It makes absolutely no sense to go through the whole process over and over again.
4. It makes absolutely no sense to go through the whole process over and over again.

As it stands now, the very same person, that being a current legimate, approved holder of multiple cans, is reviewed as if……..they don’t ALREADY own….that’s right….multiple cans. It is EXACTLY as logical as a person getting a Carry License and then, when they want to buy a new pistol....applying for yet again another Carry License.

Re: Form 4 wait time

Currently on the longest wait I have had to endure. Mailed my Form 4 off May 22 to beat the June 1 change. Went pending 7/21, was informed that they have not even reached July yet.
I have never had to wait this long. Usually 90 days. Shortest was 45.

I mailed two form 4s first week of June this year. Got them back second week of October. Kinda of all depends. I am sending a new form 4 in Monday.I am expecting a little longer wait this time.

Thanks. I just saw today that the ATF cashed my check on the 22nd of November 2011. I can only assume it is good news that they cashed my check right?

Re: Form 4 wait time

I feel your pain (although I admit it does make me feel better to know I am not the only one getting horse fucked!!!) Pending since July 20th and to top it off the dealer that I ordered mine through failed to even place my order with Elite Iron for the first THREE FUCKING MONTHS!!! I only found out because after three months of waiting I called Elite Iron myself and read them my invoice number etc... and they told me there was no record of my purchase, it was sorted out, they then fast tracked it, but then I couldn't start my wait with the ATF for that much longer....I am hoping for maybe the end of December....I placed my order first part of November OF LAST YEAR!!!

Re: Form 4 wait time

Damn it. So you submitted form with serial? But no transfer was initiated between manufacturer and dealer?

I had the same thing happen to me with an AAC can. It got sorted out but it just adds to the wait. That is why I try really hard to find a can in stock so it shortens the time line. Most Form 3 transfers are 4-6 weeks so if you can even not have to do that it will shorten the time line even more.

Re: Form 4 wait time

I am passing four months wait on Monday, 28 November 2011 - pending 28 July 2011 so I am figuring I have two-four more weeks but with Christmas coming it could get longer. This is the longest wait thus far in my other three Form 4 transfers. What ever was changed at ATF has not been for the better - reorganization and what was accomplished?

Re: Form 4 wait time

It's ridiculously and unnecessarily long. It's like having to take a driving test and obtaining a Drivers License for every car you drive, at $200.00 a piece. Talk about government reform!

Re: Form 4 wait time

What makes no sense to me is why they want a new set of finger prints each and every time as if that ever changes. My local Sheriff's office now has the finger prints digital, and I am in sleepy hollow, so when they scanned them in it automatically goes into the finger print archive so ATF could pull them if they needed to see them. It could cut down on some of the unneeded paperwork not to mention if you are a repeat customer, all you should have to do is update from the last Form 4 and move out.

I work in a field that requires me to update my clearances every five years so all my information is in files already; however, the two data bases don't speak so I wait and wait...and wait some more.

Four items M11 9mm SMG, M11 9mm can, YHM mite .22 and SS mite .22 checks cashed 7-06-2011 stamps dated November 10th Sara Jones inspector. Four months and a few days all items on a trust. Good luck to all getting there goods soon. PG

Re: Form 4 wait time

I wonder if we could lobby a change in the act to allow multiple items to be listed on a single form with a single set of prints. It seems to me that that would cut down on a lot of the paperwork and redundancy with minimal changes to the actual law.

And yes, I'd prefer to see it all just go away.

Re: Form 4 wait time

The wait sucks, I have no idea why it is taking longer, My first 2 came in less than 60 days, the last four took 3-5 months. You would think it would go quicker when you already have a can

My problem is it is for an oddball set-up, it is a 6.5 creedmoor and the can had to be chambered for that set-up. (my understanding is that they open up a .223 can to accomidate my round, I had heard this is a better way to go than just running a thirty cal can), the other oddball thing is that I have a 3/4" threads instead of the standard 5/8, the threads per inch eludes me right now (either 20 or 28), but yeah that was the problem, my dealer did not even submit an order to elite iron, so I had no serial number to submit my other paperwork, thus I got to wait for my wait ;(

Best of luck to you guys, by the time I decide f*ck it and get one it'll take 2 years.

Ah just suck it up and do it, 5 months is nothing. I have a friend who bought an SBS back in the old days. It actually took him 2 years to get the stamp (partly due to a dealer screw up). He hasn't bought any NFA items since,,,

A five month wait is to be expected right now, and it might get worse. Having spoken with my dealer, it seems the issue is simply volume of forms with a lack of manpower. The way this process is still done is also simply antiquated. An electronic process would be so much more simpler on everyone. My worries are how this effects these small business (dealers, manufacturers, etc) that revolve around the NFA industry. Good example is how folks get turned off by the process, like Pharm0r above.

Silenced America has some great points in this THREAD HERE

Also refer to this months Small Arms Review to get the idea of what's going on and how things could change. There's an interesting article titled <span style="font-style: italic">Turning Up the Heat</span>

In the eyes of "these" people, anyone who wants a gun must be mentally unstable and anyone who wants a suppressor just has to be criminaly insane. To "them", you're guilty until you spend enough time and money to prove yourself innocent.

In the FWIW...Dana Pickles actully returned a call based on a message left on his voice mail. He was pleasant, helpful, and sounded a bit weary--especially as he explained that due to the volume of applications, he was running about 5 months to process. That all checks.

I could also see how he could get bitter and jaded, but did not appear to be. Imagine sitting at his desk processing a mountain of basicaly the same paperwork day after day...yes I know it is his job, just sayin'. Oh and fielding all the calls frim us!
