Congressman Mac Thornberry wrote this letter to BATFE Acting Deputy Director Hoover, on behalf of the silencer industry after contact with Scott Bittner of Silenced America This is an excellent letter that encapsulates the major issue retarding civilian circulation of firearm hearing safety devices and economic growth in the Silencer Industry

The point I'm trying to make is that we can accomplish this- it is a reasonable request for government to process approvals in a timely manner.

I also contacted my Congressman, and as I read his letter, I he is indicating that he would be willing to vote for said piece of legislation. I'm going to contact him again Monday and see if I can gather any more support. Congressman Sensenbrenner is a great man and his staff are very helpful. He has personally helped me cut red tape in the past. We need more politicians like him and obviously Mac Thornberry today- people willing to go to bat for the people they represent.

There is some organization called the silencer manufacturers guild or something like that that some companies are part of- their goal from what I hear is to get suppressor ownership nationwide.

So there is hope for California... but then there are so many other reasons to leave California.

Re: Good news from Texas Congressman Mac Thornberry

This is good news. I hope Mr. Thornberry does have that meeting and they begin to streamline the process of approvals for suppressors and other Class 3 items. I think it is absolutely absurd that our checks are cashed within a week of their acceptance but yet it takes 4-6 months to receive that paperwork back. It cannot take that long to attach a stamp, write out the serial number, log it in and send it back to the SOT holder.

Let's get this done! Sign that petition!

I think "One" background investigation, set of finger prints and photograph are sufficient. Then issue a card that allows instant access to title II firearms. Just my .02.

Re: Good news from Texas Congressman Mac Thornberry

Thanks for posting the letter, Austin. I was extremely leery about posting it. Austin called me and asked if he could. I appreciate the professionals in this forum. I truly enjoy the professionalism here in the threads. The infighting is non-existent.

Background:
I have been working with a staffer in Rep. Thornberry's office as well as folks in Senators Cornyn and Hutchison's office. I am pretty sure that there will be a letter out of Senator Cornyn's office soon. I want to see change not only because I am in the industry, but also because I believe in our guaranteed rights. The government takes our money and provides a lengthy 1/2 ass service. I will grab some pop corn and watch the show. Thanks for those who have supported this issue. Thanks for the professionalism.

Patience my left coast friend, the political pendulum is slowly swinging the other way. Things won't change overnight but they will change.

Re: Good news from Texas Congressman Mac Thornberry

Hell, if they can make a small step forward and automate Form 3's that will substantially shorten the Form 4 wait time. Its ludicrous that a Form 3 should take anywhere nears a month.

Re: Good news from Texas Congressman Mac Thornberry

The skeptic in me wonders if there is a purposeful reason for why the retiring examiners contribute to the backlog and for why the process isn't more streamlined....i know, i know . . . no politics. . .
