anybody shoot these yet? I shot the .308 165 gr. sst out of my remington 5R they where sub moa out to 500 (the farthest I can shoot here in southern michigan) also has anyone used the SST on med. to lrg. northern whitetails? I am getting conflicting stories of either "awesome bullet, little to zero tracking" or "worst bullet ever, no exit long hard tracks" I understand ballistic tip bullets are designed to expand rapidly, and poor hits on heavy bone can cause grenade like performance with little penetration, but with good placement what have others been witness to or experienced themselves?

Re: Hornady superformance

I used the 7mm Rem Mag 162g SST on a Mule Deer doe this year. I had great results. At the range it shot .5-.75 at 100 and about 3 at 300 yards with a gusty wind. The bullet hit the animal just behind the shoulder and turned the heart and lungs to mush. The exit hole was 1 inch around. The animal dropped in her tracks. My two buddies had the same results with their kills.

Hornady stated that they would not hit an elk in the shoulder, but rather in the boiler room due to the rapid expansion in bone.

I love the Superformance line (their match 308 is kick ass for me).

Re: Hornady superformance

I used the 150 gr. gmx and was getting very good results. Just bought a box of the sst to try them out.

edit:

Just got back from the range. Shot the sst's and i was grouping sub moa with them. Lets see what they will do on some game.

Re: Hornady superformance

personally I like a bullet that DUMPS everything in the chest cavity...as compared to a thru shot__and a red trail AS I prefer RED MIST if any ____the ripples that go thru a living mass that is 70% water is what puts them down unless you hit the first part of the spianl column or the brain stem....

SHOCK and AWE puts them down!
