Gents,

Just got an alert that the ONLY smelter/lead producer, Doe Run Smelting (in the US) will be closing it's doors due to new EPA regulations that are 10 times more stringent that previous requirements.

If you think bullets are expensive now just wait until this happens. Want to bet that import of lead is curtailed, as well?

Lead may become the new silver and gold for investment purposes.

This has already been hashed out. Not going to have much effect on the market if at all. If you think one little plant is supporting all the lead needs in this country then you are dreaming. This plant merely process raw lead. Most lead in this country is some sort of recycled lead.

Both Canada and Mexico have large lead smelting plants, and the U.S. has dozens of lead recycling plants.

I'm not a tree hugger but when you have areas where it isn't safe to eat fish in our rivers because they have high levels of lead and heavy metals in them this should tell you something. This is why Europe banned lead wheel weights and we are also following their example. Just the lead from lost wheel weights on our road systems drains into streams and rivers. Last year they tested alligators in South Carolina wet lands and they had lead and heavy metal contamination hundreds of times higher than normal.

Whats much worse is getting older and not having any lead in your pencil. (Viagra humor)
