Mk 13 Mod 0 stock

IMG_2409.jpg

A Mk13 case sold a few months back and my buddy just sent me pics. 2 names on it, Lacz and Chris. Both Chris Kyle and Kevin Lacz were snipers and teammates in SEAL Team 3, so this case was issued to one or both of them!

Their rifle's serial number is G63944xx, unfortunately the last 2 digits are obscured, so I have no idea if I had the stock from this Mk13.

However, the other case that was for sale does have a full serial number visible, it's G6394330. I don't know if there's any names on this case, but I sold stock number 4330 back in 2016. Can't find any pics of it, but it was painted up and looked awesome!!

Amazing pieces of history!

That’s quite a rare combo if that providence is correct(!). Thanks for sharing those pics. My guess is they might be Mk 13 Mod 3 (suppressed) serial numbers as well. My DRMO Mk 13 case has no names but serial number is quite similar (G6394378).

Thanks for the other pic, first time I have seen a Mk 13 Mod 1 (left handed version). (On edit: I found the 2-piece scope bases interesting too).

Wonder why the lefty is the only one of two that got the OAF eye masking.

Thinking the Nuns that train the shooters were upset that they failed in turning him in to a righty.

I think that's just pixelation to hide his identity.

Looks to me like he's squinting or closing his right eye though. I see it on the range all the time. Instead of using a opaque blinder on the non-dom eye or learning to shoot both open shooter close the non-dom. Over time, the muscle fatigue and you see the lip quiver and eventually that same crooked smile.

You guys keep coming up with cool shit. Curious what else we'll see hit the market over the next couple of years.

Wow, matching transport case with the take-off stock(!). That's going to be a nice build with incredible providence.
What is your take on all of these G63xxxx serial block cases? Were some Mod 0s possibly converted to Mod 3s?
(I ask that based on Chris Kyle's documented us of a Mod 3 in combat, but these G-prefix cases could predate that tour).

I know for sure that G6394309 and G6553921 existed as Mk13 Mod 3s at an NSW armory on the east coast in 2009. At that same armory there were some Mk13 Mod 5s (G6553886 and G6553901) with serials lower than the highest Mod 3. One could deduce that they were from the same order of actions from Remington. The G6394XXX and G6553XXX serials represent the very last block of builds of McMillan stocked Mk13s before the Mod 5's took over.

Just a little tidbit for those curious about what prefix action their stock may have had:
G prefix actions (late builds) have a small REM stamp on the bottom forward of the action screw. C and E do not. That stamp will be visible in the bedding. Having a Mod 0 stock with a G prefix points to being a Mod 3. Seen a couple like this so far to include an earlier grey that was a rebuild.

That is some serious cool factor right there. Excellent Jocko podcast with Tony out there - dude is a character.

I wonder what the Twittersphere gods could reveal about other names on rifles - I'm still empty handed on my search.

Speaking of Eafrati and Mk 13 rifles, I googled that interview: https://radiopublic.com/jocko-podcast-6Nl1Kl/s1!0444a

Around 1.30 Eafrati is asked what is the best piece of kit these days, that has evolved over time. He mentioned the improvement in boots, navigation systems (newer GPS), communications (esp Satellite technology), and "anything you can get in and drive" instead of walking. His final comment on kit improvements is at 1:32:05:

Eafrati: "The 300 WinMag sniper rifle, suppressed with a 22 power NightForce scope on it. Its a wicked good piece of kit. Let me tell you what, I mean, I can read your T-shirt at a click. That's pretty good."

Jocko "Legit. Legit."

Just an fyi after listening to that podcast. You can tell that retiring from the Navy was/is really hard for a guy like Eafrati.

My stock isn't named but my case is.
Pat Pocalyko. Front of case is tagged "Big Gay Pat" lol.
There's a 2nd last name of McDaniels crossed out and Task Unit 2 as well

Had these two out today for a little trigger time. First one is chambered in 300WM and the second is chambered in 6.5x55. LRI did the machine work on both and they both hammer. Raven Rifles did the bedding work.
Rifle 1:
Original- Stock, Btm metal, Rail, Early bolt without extractor mod, Bipod and Sling. The rest of the parts were sourced new/used. NF 5.5x22 and 40x trigger.

Rifle 2:
Original- Stock, Btm metal and Bipod. Issued SIMRAD cap and Ultra rings for who knows what system. The rest was sourced new/used. Mk4 16x and 40x trigger.

Thanks for the help along the way!

I’m ready to send parts off for a milspec Mod 3 build. Anyone know a smith that has experience fabricating the Mod 3 suppressor colar? I want this done right, thanks for any assistance!

I believe RWS has built a collar and can do the work. That is who I would use.

I’m aware of RWS. I thought he had stated they tried to reverse engineer the colar the best they could from photos. I’m going to keep searching around for now but appreciate the response. Anyone else have any suggestions?

A friend of mine is still working on reverse engineering the collar from an original Mod 3 barrel he has in his collection. I'm sending him 2 barrels this week so he can experiment and get everything dialed in. It's slow going, he's just doing this project on the side, I'll keep updating you guys with progress reports when things happen

So finally got around to taking about 80 fireformed brass... neck sized, primer pocket swage, truing flash hole, neck chamfer in and out, micrometer seated primer, match bullets sorted and all 220.2, hand measured 65gr of powder each, micrometer seated to have Ogive touching rifling... the thing shot like a laser with bulk loaded fl resized pre-fire form rounds.

Now we get to see what she is capable of!

I shoot the 230OTMs jumped .030" out of an A191 chamber with Retumbo and Remington 9 1/2s or 9 1/2Ms if I can find them. Shoots great with Winchester blue bag and even better with ADG, but you have to back the ADG off .5gr.

I had mine built with the A191 chamber as well and it seems to like 220 SMK at 3.500” which I believe is the OAL for Mk248 ? Anyway it works well at that length and bullet. I’m using H1000 in Black Hills match brass to try to duplicate a mild version of Mk248 but with 74.0 grains versus the spec which I believe is in the neighbourhood of 77 grains.

These rifles shoot the mk248 mod1 very well. It's 10" flatter at 1k than my 230OTM load BUT if flowed every case onto the ejector hole. For fire and forget it's an outstanding round. if you reload, with this chamber, it's too hot.

Thats what I’ve heard, basically have a spent brass bucket next to your rifle. I haven’t chrono’d the 74 grain load at the muzzle but it’s still just shy of 2000 fps at 600m and the brass is good.

This is 5 shots each from 2 different rifles, my Mk13 is shots 6 thru 10. ( shot 6 is underneath shot 10)

248 is some pretty spicy ammo from what I've read.
If anyone has a box or two, even empty (191 as well), I'd love to pick some up for display.
I try and get all the various kit items for my rifles to include ammo. The 248 and 191 have proven tough to find so far.

Anyone have a good source for some Lake City Match .300 WM brass? I'd love to get a couple of hundred once-fired.

Not sure that exists. The contract for Mk248 went to Federal, and the brass I’ve seen is marked as such. Here’s some good history of the military 300 WinMag cartridge development:

(IMO, reloading Mk 248 Mod 1 is a mistake given the stress of the original loading. I’d guess Mod 0 is more reloadable due to milder load, but I’d still be reluctant. I’ll defer to others.)

This likely contributes to the brass flow as well.

I’ll have a look at what I have. For whatever reason the 500 Black Hills Match cases I bought have some Lake City 300 WM cases mixed in, however the date stamps are all mixed, from LC08 up to LC11. So I’m not sure I could hobble together 100 of the same year head stamp but I will check.

Im also assuming that the only source of once fired lake city 300 WM brass would be Mk248 ammunition?

I agree, that replica looks great! I hope mine turns out as nice.

I'll be buying some raffle tickets for sure(!) Thanks for doing this!

That's awesome, probably the only Mil-Spec ATACR and contract trigger that I've seen out there, along with the mount if I recall correctly. Buying tickets for sure, whoever wins will have an absolutely amazing gun.

This is one of the very few legit milspec 5-25x56 ATACR scopes outside the military, so this is an extremely rare opportunity to acquire one! NightForce absolutely knocked it out of the park with this donation!!!

We originally had an XTSP trigger on the rifle because Geissele doesn't sell their Mk13 trigger to the public. That was a piece we were really worried about acquiring for this build, but Geissele jumped in and donated this amazing trigger! As far as I can tell, this is the only one out there, I don't even have one on my USMC Mk13 build!

While those two parts stand out due to their rarity, Surefire, LaRue, Magpul, Harris, and VTAC also stepped up and generously donated much needed parts that brought this build to life! These companies are amazing and I can't thank them enough for supporting the SSA!
