I measured my COL at the lands with 178gr eld-x in a win model 70 feather wt 300wsm to be 2.925 . My question is in the Hornady manual all the loads are with a COL of 2.840 . This is my first time ever to reload myself. If in my ladder loads jammed.010 my Col will be 2.935. Does this seem to be the norm? I used a Sinclair tool and the bolt method to find the lands .001 difference between the two methods. Thank you for your consideration.

If thats what your measurements are telling you then thats what it is. Factory tubes more often than not will give you excessive free bore to try and mitigate any pressure issues for the worst case scenario. Pretty tough to jam a bullet when the lands are a mile away wouldnt you say?

Sounds like you have a good foundation, just continue carefully as you seem to be and youll do fine.
