I noticed in Alliant 2012 Reloader's Guide and the .308 section they list Power Pro 2000-MR (48.5gr) pushing a 180gr Federal Fusion @ 2,760fps or 119fps faster than what's listed for RL-17 (48.7gr) and 180gr Speer BTSP. Anyone out there have experience with these two powders in .308 & 175-180gr projectile range? Is Power Pro 2000-MR really that much faster? I've read some good reviews on Power Pro via online forums, seems "about" as fast as RL-17 with the same barrel length but couldn't find a source comparing with the same gun and same bullet.

My gas gun has been shooting great with 49.5gr of RL-17. 2,703fps avg w/Hornady 178 HPBTs through a 22''barrel. I just ordered 5lbs of RL-17 now I hear about this new powder, go figure : )

That's very comparable to what I'm running with RL-17 given your 2'' shorter barrel , is 48gr where you found accuracy or max load?

Ive been loading 47.5grs 2000MR with the 178HPBT and getting in the 2730 range(26" tube). I think RE17 is suited more towards a slightly bigger case, it seems to be working in my 6mmRem. And short magnums of course.

Is that your max load @ 47.5gr 2000MR? I understand RL-17 is supposedly too slow burning for .308 and 178s but it's shooting lights out in my gas gun along with zero pressure signs and good speed.

It was probably close to max but showed no pressure even in 100+ degree temps. Accuracy was good for a factory gun, in the .6 moa range.

can't comment on RL17, but with 2000mr in my new barrel, i am driving 155 scenars at 3050 with 48.8grs seated .010 off the lands and it is doing just under half moa. the only problem is i am having flattened primers with that load...although i did test this load when it was 106* and pressure was 29.98 inches.
