Who has the Netflix service where you can stream movies?
We have the Blockbuster program where we receive Blu Ray discs in the mail, watch and return once a week.
Netflix site doesn't expand on whether or not they offer streaming blu ray so we were wondering if any of you have their service and how you like it.


What we watch them on:

Samsung 750 Series 1080p Plasma Screen Monitor
JVC 500W 5.1 digital home theater system w/active Sub

Movies like Hurt Locker and Black Hawk Down really kick ass on this system, and Avatar's graphic quality is just freakin stupid clear

We do not want to switch to Netflix streaming if they don't offer Blu Ray or the same exploitable visual quality, so give your time tested, yes I had it and it sucked, or man it was the cat's ass opinions

I don't think they do bluray streaming but they may. I stream a ton of movies via my Wii and it works really well and is free so can't complain about that, it's in its infancy but they are adding movies all the time and it's easy as hell to use. they have most of the good shows, Dexter, Weeds, ect. on there to so that's cool. Sorry I don't know about the BluRay though but I would suspect that streaming a bluray flick would take up considerably more bandwidth...

I have it - what would you like to know?

$9/month unlimited download. Works on your computer, no hardware additions.

If you want to use with your TV, you need to get a Roku box or use a Wii.

Broadband is of course a requirement. Sat Internet is not broadband enough.

I have netflix on dsl (6MB) pretty decent quality. Net flix measures your bandwidth and adjust picture quality to meet that. Movie selection still not great but they are adding titles all the time. I have computers hooked up to my tv's.

Netflix is limited on what they have for streaming and Blu-Ray. Some of the picture quality is iffy, some is great. Additionally, you can stream anything you want (that is offered in streaming) with no limit and still get the dvds/blu ray ( if available for selected title).

I pay 10 bucks a month and can have 2 dvds in home at a time. As soon as they receive them back, another in my queue goes in the mail. Depending on your locale in regards to shipping, you can watch double the amount of blockbuster ( assuming you are limited to 1 a week with them). I generally get the dvds no more than 2 days after I ordered them, provided I account for the weekend.

I've been very happy with netflix. You can always do their free trial and if you don't like it, cancel it.

You better be careful with that business the RIAA is drunk off of lawsuits right now and isn't exactly holding back the demands.

9H, I have to plug mine into the HDMI as well as a 1/8" jack for audio that splits into the tv.

Also, it's best if you shut down the computer, plug everything in, and then turn it all on again. The TV will automatically reset itself so you dont have to fiddle with settings of the display.

Here is my take on Blockbuster vs Netflix, having had them both....

Blockbuster - Blu ray rentals + in store rentals

NetFlix - Blu ray rentals, streaming media on your laptop, or XBOX 360 or PS3 connected TV

Blockbuster was awesome until they started limiting the amount of trade ins you could do in a month and then decided they wanted to charge more for it. I assume they did this either because they were losing their asses on rentals or because they wanted to make more money, maybe both....

I get wanting to watch Avatar on blu ray, but you can't tell me that Gran Torino is going to make that much of a difference if you watch it streamed.

By the way, I think the streaming is pretty damned good, we have Comcast cable and it looks excellent, but if there is something that we want to see in all it's high def, blu ray glory, we just make sure we rent it through NetFlix to our door.

I always get the two mixed up.

However I can assure you that if you're engaging in any activity that involves a file moving from one computer to another via an internet service provider your activities are broadcast to the provider like a public television show no matter what type of clients you're using.

It's only a matter of whether or not your ISP decides to respond to a subpeona to qualify your activities.

I've been in a few network operations centers I'm pretty sure there's nothing you do online that your service company can't identify.
