I was out walking the dog a few weeks ago when I noticed a large amount of fox scat in one of our fields.
I noticed that was fanned out from one of our sheds which groundhogs have habitually used as cover.

Two days ago I was walking the dog and looked saw this little fellow looking back at me.

So I decided to set up the game camera last night and got a few good ones. Mom brought the pups a deer head that she found, it'd visible in the foreground.

Re: New family on the property

This will certainly keep your ground hog and mice populations down. Thanks for posting the pictures!

Re: New family on the property

Had a whole litter of 4 behind house last year. Did my best to get photo with no luck of finding den.. Keep pan of dog food out for them though.

Re: New family on the property

Mom has mange.
We're going to put out treatment once they're weaned.

Re: New family on the property

My in-laws had grey foxes on their property for a few years. They have 12 acres surrounded by sub-divisions; much of it wooded. The pups were raised under the back deck then moved into the trees. My kids being city kids got a rare treat getting to see them. One of the adolescents was tame enough to get within about 10 feet. We have not seen them in over a year now. I'm hoping they just moved on.

Re: New family on the property

cute they are but the mange thing should be dealt with asap.trap the little fellows and put momma down.check with a local game warden and see if they offer any advice.mange can be transfered to your pets and it is a horrable thing to see them go through.those pups sure are cute and thanks for sharing.nature is so friggin cool...

Re: New family on the property

Pretty nifty. We used to have a old wood pile on the place I grew up. Foxes always had pups there and mature hide were worth $55 each. (prices sort of dates me doesn't it) Used to pick one off now and then when I was feeding the calves. Fun to watch when they don't know you're looking.

Re: New family on the property

They are definitely cute. Too bad about the mange. I have no idea how it is treated.

I noticed her tail and was going to ask about it if no one else had.

Was the dog you were walking aware of the kitten and react to it?

I guess you don't keep chickens.

Re: New family on the property

I went on vacation with the family and in the interim the fox family appears to have moved out.
The last photos are from late March.
I'll upload the shots I got of dad, pups and a really mangy interloper.
There is also a groundhog in the later shots using the same hole.
Perhaps they had a disagreement about the living quarters.
