Russ will these be DTA barrels? Be interesting to hear how they feed.
I always thought that the meloniting process did decrease Velocity and pressure. Kind of like Moly or HBN.
They do. But the Alpha is a 7 rounder, that is shorter then the Accurate Mag.
I ordered one of them as well to test out, I had issues with the earlier ones a couple of yrs ago with the mag swelling when I loaded a full mag, hopefully they got it resolved.
Negative, they don't feed. Thats why we went with the 7WSM as the Short Magnum round from the factory.

M16 extractor required? Or just preferred?
For a bone stock Remington bolt.... I would opt for it if I had my components already at the shop to be worked on. Thats a heavy case to pop out, the factory extractor has a really hard time.
6.5 SAUM strikes again. I shot the larger 8 pt at 425 yds, dropped in his tracks. Later I let my buddy use my rifle to shoot the smaller buck at 375 yds,once again DRT!! Thanks George for an awesome rifle!!

It's just how it works. Why do you think that 99% of good gunsmiths use other extractors. I've seen way to many Remington's fail. The sako and M-16 just work so much better and fail so little.
Getting off topic but check out how bad a sako extractor can fail in a rem action. They were not designed for it and it weakens the strength of the design.
One of the most common upgrades to a factory bolt is the M16 extractor. Why do you think most custom shops run them on their actions? Like Defiance….
That is a much heavier case loaded and an even more awkward case unloaded. You need the extra bite and spring power that the M16 offers you.
I own one in a remington setup. It had to have the M16 upgrade to toss out brass with reliability. The majority of the time it would just drop the case back on top of the magazine.
I would never ask for one.....
It's worth the wait. This is my favorite caliber to shoot besides my 22CM. 
Kys I believe you 100%. I really love my 243's but I think this will be my favorite. Actually come to think of it if I had it now it would be more torcher because I still can't shoot for another couple weeks ( doctors order) .

Measured my throat (new reamer) with 140 JLKs, they touch @ 2.910"
Rolled up 20 rounds with 61gr of H-1000 pixie dust @ 2.900" and anxiously await the chance to shoot on Saturday...

I have been wondering the same thing. I have an XM and bottom metal sitting in the safe that I was saving for a 300WSM build or possibly another 7WSM.
All this 6.5 talk has my gears turning...
I have a GAP templar 7wsm that I am just itching to get rebarrelled to the 6.5. Is this a round that I could go to the range and shoot 20-30 rounds in a couple to few hours and not worry about the barrel life? I have read the previous posts about barrel life but have not seen where it would be detrimental or not to shoot several 5-10 round strings over that period of time.
Couple 6.5 SAUMs in the vault ready to ship.

Mr. George, not to derail but have you ever built and/or shot a 6.5x55mm or 6.5x55mm Ack-Imp in modern rifle or vintage? How was it/whats your opinion of the cartridge? I know its long action cartridge and that GAP likes to do short actions mostly, but I think this would be a awesome round in a modern action. Heck it was good in the Swedish Mauser as I think that rifle has a pretty solid reputation for accuracy(for vintage/service rifles atleast). Im starting to see some interest in it as well for F-Class and IMO rightfully so, its just a tiny bit smaller(2-3gr maybe) than a plain 6.5-284 and would be perfect for a rifle thats not allowed to have a brake.

6.5x55 AI or Vais has the same capacity as the 6.5-284. I shoot a 6.5-06 AI in my hunting rifle. I was going to build one of those off of a LA before I read this thread. This 6.5 SAUM cartridge equals my 6.5-06 AI in performance with much lower pressures, better barrel life, no fire forming, and a SA. After seeing this cartridge I can't really see the point in the 6.5x55 Vais. But if you are in love with it you should let George chamber one for you. The lapua brass in 6.5x55 is the second cheapest they make and the ballistics are impressive. It's a great hunting round.

Got a question, has anyone tried the 140JLK's? I know they like to be jammed, if so what did you come up with on the 081" FB as a COAL? Got a bunch of them and would like to know if they are going to be useful in this set up feeding out of a mag
I would appreciate any information, feedback or opinion of what is necessary to convert a Remington 700 Sendero SF 300 SAUM to a 6.5 SAUM 4S? I know the barrel needs to be switched out and the chamber modified but does the bolt need to be replaced too?
And if this would be a good factory stock rifle to start with.

No bolt replacement needed, same dimensions at the bolt face with the .300 saum. Many of the preliminary cases are being made from .300 saum cases.
George and I run the JLK bullets. He swears by the 130's in this cartridge and I am waiting on my ammo man to load them up
If he sees this he can give you the OAL for your chamber.
They will run great once loaded properly. The 140's have better ballistic qualities then the 140 Berger Hybrids. Believe George told me .6-.8 flatter when pointed.
I point them and find that to be true as well. I have a 260 chambered that I run them in and yes they are finicky but when you get them right there's nothing close in another 6.5 IMO. Admittedly, just loaded a bunch in haste to get hunting with it for our last weekend here.
Started with 60.5 H-1000 to zero, then stepped up to the GAP recommended charge of 61gr for the 140s. Didnt' want to jam a JLK whiile hunting, so kept them backed off. Was pleasantly surprised when it shot so well, had to take it out & blood it up. Now that season is over, I will start fresh and shake it out, proper...
300SAUM Norma brass, necked down & turned, per Pat's "Care & feeding" thread, just used WLRM primers.

Does anybody have any insight on the recoil of this round without a brake? Would she be pretty harsh in a 7-7.5lb scoped rifle??

7lbs'ish...is where mine sits... No brake....No problem w recoil, very manageable...
I went back into your posts and saw where you commented before, 7lbs 4 oz. Is that bare rifle weight?
