    I’m in mourning. My paid in full perfectly fine ski boat sitting on the street in front of my house minding it’s own business gets plowed by a geriatric who hit my neighbors utility trailer and pushing it into my boat at 35 mph.... putting a nice 14” hole in the side of my boat.....

    I don’t think her insurance will pay what the boat would actually sell for, probably just a bullshit “bLuE bOoK vALuE”

    She gets out and says, “maybe I shouldn’t be driving”


    Glad it took destruction of property to figure that out, Captain Obvious.

    Ouch. How old is the boat? If it is fairly new consider taking it back to the dealer and making a deal to trade it for exactly the same thing, then sue for the difference.

    Had a similar experience. Other ins company inital offer was one of the most insulting lowballs I have ever had. I simply replied to other guys insurance agent 10 private listings for my same make and model selling 15% or so above blue book value and about 30% more than their offer and asked if they would like to do this without attorneys...I got another offer the next day for the fair market value so who knows you might luck out

    Find any receipts for any upgrades you've done. Find listings for the same/similiar boats locally and get a feel for real FMV. Is there damage to your boat trailer, house, curb, yard, the van Gough painting you had laying in your driveway?

    There is a 99% chance their insurance will lowball you. Know what its worth and stick to it. Feel free to say no a bunch of times as insurance isn't actually used to that. Also factor in the 'how is this my problem?' value.

    At that point, a $100 letter from a lawyer's office outlining the value and how you're not playing their bullshit game would also move things along.

    LOL. I got rear ended in traffic. The offender's insurance company said "Oh w might offer you a few dollars for the car." I got an attorney and got near clean retail. Of course I had to take several weeks of chiropractic for my 'neck injury'.

    That sucks, man.

    I know the feeling. I'd just gotten my F150 regular cab with a long bed kitted out for cable installation, and I was running cable in this dude's backyard during tropical storm eduardo when all of a sudden "BOOOM".

    The dudes that lived there ran out and started shouting, "Hey, I think someone hit your truck!"

    Motherfucker totaled my truck, bent the frame, and still managed to drive off in his shitty lincoln town car.

    He was probably 85 years old or so. His son in law came back by while the cops were getting ready to tell me, "Welp... tough shit!".

    Insurance paid to fix it, fortunately. Nearly 7500 in damages.

    Man all these crash stories rem8nd me of one when I was younger . Had a buddy who was fairly built and less than stable . We were out driving 8n his Impala and came up to a red light . We stop and about five seconds later , Wham . Some 50ish
    Bitch in a Caddy plows into the back of his car . His bumper was a little bent but I don't think too much more . The Caddy didn't have a scratch . My buddy says , eh not to bad don't worry about it . Oh Fuck8n NOOO . Hagatha starts screamin she wants a cop , this is gonna get settled up , yadaa yada bitch fit . Well my buddy looks at her then proceeds to kick her grill in and kick a n8ce dent in her door . Hagatha is stand8ng there speechless and my buddy says there that about settles it . We hopped in and he took off . Nothing ever came of it . I can still remeber laughing till i fuck8n cried over that .

    it's not like that is the 'fender' or 'quarter-panel' that is easily replaceable. That is "structure" right there, and how's the inside look? Wiring issues, plumbing issues?
    It looks bad enough already, I'm sorry to see this. We're actually talking about possibly putting our boat in the water this year,,, and I get 'the loss' at this time.

    Did not take location into account.
    Texas and Louisiana have glass guys every town and along the coast and popular lakes sell marine tex in grocery stores.

    Keep it clean and completely dry.
    Like trama kit that thing. Don't pick at it.
    Appears mostly in a flat strait area that is good.

    You travel to Texas occasionally many competent shops but one hell of a tow.

    There is a pretty bit boat place on the west side of 25 in Ft Collins.

    Bet they have a good glass guy.

    If not, find a guy that does body work on cars out of a storage unit. Those guys can fix anything up with glass n Bondo....... just skip the bondo and have em sand it nice n even.

    Really. Paid a mexican dude on Colfax $200 cash to fix a guys bumper I clipped once. Gave the dude $100 too.
    With a standard shop it would been an $1800 job. It was a 10 yr old but nice and well kept car and the work looked great.

    I was happy to walk away that cheap.

    Seriously there is good advice here. KBB is not what the insurance companies usually go by, but it is not the end all in the discussion. Market value in your area can be different than ANY KBB, NADA, etc...

    3 things insurance companies love. Documentation, Documentation, documentation. Any upgrades? Make sure they know. Invoices are your friend. Get “sale” prices from dealers (documented of course) to prove value of your vessel.

    Call John at Island Lake Marine in Fort Collins. He would be a good contact for you as well

    It is completely repairable for seaworthy.

    Astetics are tough as the stripes are under gel coat most likely.

    Get some comps, especially from a couple of dealers who want to sell you a new boat. Get then in writing and use them to bludgeon the insurance company. If they place any percentage of blame on you, push back hard.

    Their plan is to come up with a value, then put you 40% at fault, arguing this would not have happened if you had not parked in the street so it is partially your fault. Then they'll offer you 60% of the value of the boat. That is how they decide the fucked up prices they give you.

    Hit them back with full value of the boat based on your two or three estimates, even better if you have an estimate from a dealer who sold or worked on your boat. Then fight for 90 or 100% the fault of their drunk old lady client.

    When they lowball you, remind them you are going to lawyer up and sue the fuck out of their client for the difference.

    I had an idiot stay-at-home drunk neighbor crash into my garage and do $5,500 damage, his insurance said my garage was 30% at fault and offered me $3,700 of the cost of repair. They said my garage was, "Old and prone to damage because of its age". WTF??? I reminded them my garage was,

    A. Well maintained and had a new roof last summer, I agreed my garage was immobile but reminded them that was not age related, it was the nature of being a garage.

    B. My garage was minding it's own fucking business and on my private property when their drunk assed client drove onto my property and hit the fucking thing at 25 mph.

    C. I'd be dragging their idiot client into court for the remainder of the damages and for my time and expenses related to dragging him into court and this would be a slam dunk.

    Try and be nice but firm,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,they are assholes and they are paid to screw you over.

    Shit, I would have immediately replied: "Yeah I see that, but that's a little too late now, don't ya' think?"

    ALWAYS make sure that your investments are insured, and never hesitate to demand in full for the other party's information, insurance and anything else applicable.

    Like my coworker says: "Common sense does not grow in everybody's garden." It really does not...

    I'm a former auto painter. The shop I worked in specialized in Corvettes. Your damage is routine for anyone who's repaired bodywork on a Corvette. As one person said, "there's plenty to work with there".
