I picked up this 700 off of here and the seller said the trigger was gone over and breaks good at 2.5#. But he said when there isnt any tension on the trigger, it has play. He also said that the trigger mech. just needed cleaning. True? False? Should I swap it, clean it, leave it?

Id rather not spend more money on the gun now, but if this is a safety issue then ok. He said there is no issue with safety. Mainly, Im just looking for opinions on what to do next.

This is not exactly a "Gear" question. You will have better luck moving this thread or having a moderator move it to the "Bolt Action" section.

when the bolt is not cocked there will be play in the trigger shoe, this is because the sear is not putting pressure on the trigger.

there should how ever be no play in the action to trigger housing interface.

and you can flush it out with zippo/ronsonal lighter fluid.

Just get a Timney. It's only $100 and change and you will sleep better. That's a lot of talk, concern and bla bla bla that can go away pretty easy.

Yes.
I installed one, and I'm substantially below average.

Oh, a heavy barrel, right? I got 3 Jewells on my "Tactical" rigs, 100 bucks more or so but even my retarded ass could swap it out from the factory trigger.

Good luck with the trigger. Once you play around on install you will figure it out and you will be good to go from then on. Remington is about the easisest triggers there is to replace espically with all the aftermarket drop ins.
