RL 15 and AMAX 178 &SMK 175

What loads are you gents running with these combos? I've got a Rem 700 with a 26" Rock barrel 1 in 11.25" twist. Just curious to what kinda pet loads everyone else has. Going to do a ladder test to narrow it down in mine, just looking to see what everyone else came up with.

I use both extensively with great results, but currently a 700P barreled gun is liking the AMAX more for whatever reason.

43.9gr RL-15/44gr Varget
Lapua Brass
CCI BR2 primer
AMAX seated to 2.830 ,175 seated to 2.81 COAL

The groups shrink considerably when using the amax set at 2.83 for me. I have absolutely no idea why it's so finicky. set at 2.82 or 2.84 and it does only as well as the SMK. (3/4moa)

Edit: switched AMAX OAL and SMK OAL to match the powder they were used with.

I got this load from the 308 win. page on 6mmbr.com. My OAL is 3.000" and works super well for long range in my rifle.

Good deal. Thanks for sharing. I've seen tons of loads worked up for the Varget but not so many for the RL 15.

Dont know if you'll care or not but I tried fairly hard to get the RL15 to work with 178 Amax's in my AR10T and LTR and it did pretty good but Varget always edged it out on both counts. I do however, use it in my VSSF .223.

Just got back from some 100yd testing. All we could do today. So far my ar-10 likes the RL-15, at least better than the 335 I started with. 42 grains with black hills match brass, and 178amax

Hey Okie, what kind of groups were you getting with the 15 that the Varget edged it out in those two rifles? Just curious. I'm also wanting to try some of the 8208 XBR and see how that does. I've got enough to keep me busy for a while, that's sure.

You using the BR2 primers there 308? I've got CCI 200s, BR2s are ridiculous in price around here when you can find them. I will have to double check but I think mine is chambered 2.813 to the lands...

I'll get in my records and see if I can get you some numbers, I'm busy in the hay fields right now so it may be a day or two. I do remember it was very close between the two powders and Varget was already proven with me. I also like how it seems to be very tollerent of temperature extreems.

I saw BR2's yesterday for 175 for 5k, thought that was a pretty darn good price in today's market for them.
