Was wanting to know, in general terms, what affect a set of low rings(1/4") vs medium rings (1/2") has on accuracy or trajectory. I dont't understand what the 1/4" difference does or means.
I have always heard, lower the better. Why is that. Using a bolt gun.

Re: Scope Rings

With such a small difference in ring height you are likely to see little to no difference in either accuracy or trajectory. The general idea is to have the scope as low as possible to help get a better cheekweld and sight picture, which can help with accuracy while still clearing the barrel. In stocks without an adjustable cheekpiece, a scope that is using rings that are too high will cause the shooter to have to lift their head and keep it up. This extra strain on the muscles can produce fatigue and inconsistency, leading to a breakdown of the fundamentals of marksmanship.
