Shoulder Issues *UPDATE*

Ok so a while ago I posted on here looking for some advice on how to help my shoulder as it had been punctured and burnt by shrapnel from an RPG a while back. Here is a link to the original post if you feel so inclined to read more about the injury.

Taking all the advice I received into consideration, I decided to see an orthopedic specialist outside of the VA system (Interesting side note on the doctor: he just happened to be the same doctor who worked on me when my sister pushed me off the top bunk and I broke my color bone when I was 3 years old). He suggested that I should start swimming and see where that takes me.

Well two and a half months later of swimming 4 to 5 days out of the week, continuing with my resistance bands, and easing into pushups/pull ups, I am happy to report that my shoulders have never, in my entire life, been this strong. I am back to my 24 pull up max (and being 6 foot 2, 195lbs, this was quite a chore), which I haven't even been close to since I went through the STA indoc, and I feel absolutely no pain. I am amazed and very thankful for this recovery, and all the advice that led me here, as the injury, and the subsequent discharge, was a major source of unhappiness for me.

Now that I am recovered, I am going to again try and enter the military. The Marine Corps wont even look at me anymore, so I have decided to go a very different rout and try my luck with the Coast Guard. If anyone on here has experience/influence in the Coast Guard and would be willing to answer some questions I have, it would be much appreciated. Feel free to PM me or email me.

Thank you,

Cory

Re: Shoulder Issues *UPDATE*

Best of luck man! And swimming will definitely do you good. It also helps to develop breathing control above and beyond what one would normally manage.

Cory,

Good luck with the Coast Guard, they do offer some cool and rewarding jobs. Keep up the hard work and stay on top of the shoulder probs.
