Just got my Tango4, and somewhat shockingly, I found it impossible to find a subtension diagram. Sig doesn't seem to have it anywhere.

Just got a new DSLR camera too, so while playing around, I decided to make a subtension diagram. I got high res macro shots of the reticle, and used image analysis software to measure the relevant hashes. It's a lot harder than it sounds to get decent shots of a reticle at 24X...

I simply used a tape measure at 15 yds to confirm that the main hashes are 4 MOA apart, with 2 MOA sub-hashes. At two places on the vertical/horizontal, there are 1 MOA hashes. I then used those known measurements to determine the size of the center dot, center gaps, and small hashes using image analysis.

The only strange size was the little hashmarks, which measured 0.86 MOA (perhaps 7/8?). Everything else was pretty much a reasonable "round number". Not sure why they didn't go with 1 MOA for the sub-hashes, but I guess they forgot to consult me during design...

The total spread is 80 MOA, though that's only viewable till you hit just over 12X. At 24X there's just shy of 24 MOA visible under the horizontal for hold overs. Since the scope is a bit limited in the turrets (~52 MOA total), the extra 24 should get all but the saddest rounds out to 1000 yds. With my 20 MOA base, it should get me out to a mile with my 300 Win Mag. Of course you can always dial the magnification back to ~12X to get all 40 MOA worth of hashes if you're shooting something loopier than a 212 ELDX at extreme distances.

All in all, I like the reticle size and subtensions. I only have shooting experience with the Vortex HST 4-16 and 6-24 SFP, but have looked through the PST and HSLR FFP scopes several times. The Tango4 reticle is better than the Vortex FFP options IMHO, as it is just a bit bigger. At low mag it's still tiny, but with the illumination on it's easy to pick up. The Vortex options are all but invisible at low mag. At high mag, the Tango4's 1/4 MOA dot and generous surrounding gap is still a very precise aiming point.

Enjoy the images...
