Watching this happen in my personal sphere is what has really rocked me. I thought I was aware, but I really didn’t fully believe the people I know were that murderous and callous. My siblings are in that group.
I honestly believe this is what Charlie would’ve believed and his wife knows and believes this as well. That is why she doesn’t want the death penalty for him.
I can’t imagine how very difficult that is for her, but it is a testament to her faith in the Lord.

If sentenced to death it’ll take years and probably get commuted or something 10yrs from now.

The problem with "Life without Parole" is the defendant can still have family visits, etc., albeit through a glass shield. A victim's family no longer has that luxury. Justice denied. If, for example, one could be sentenced to "Life without Parole and total Solitary confinement with no family or other visitors, then that might work.But I'm sure most defense lawyers would sue for that being "cruel & unusual" punishment.
Taking a life in this context (Capital Punishment) is a matter of justice, and nothing else. It's not "vengeance" at all. One only takes the life after the entire justice process has run its course and it's confirmed that the correct and appropriate punishment is Death. "Vengeance" involves taking that life without the benefit of the full justice process (ie, "lynching"). That is wrong and should never happen.
With forfeiture of the defendant's life, at least the VIctim's survivors and the defendant's survivors are now on equal footing. Horrible footing, yes, but "equal."

I'm not interested in vengeful punishment, just in sorting it all out. How do we deal with what he's become? I believe people should be confronted with and face their own beliefs and own actions. The kid clearly felt it was okay to kill this man. So he nor anyone else should feel the slightest bit of doubt or second guess him facing his own beliefs because he's shown us he's okay with it.

Yes, MSMedia are liars, but that doesn't mean they don't report some truth on occasion, and it doesn't mean there won't be charges in the future against people who conspired with him.
He should be confronted with the weight and impropriety of his actions and some effort should be made to understand the forge that fired his hatred.
Then he should be executed, not because of who he is or who he murdered but simply because he murdered.
