I present my latest build: Simple Jack.

Why Simple Jack? Because this rifle is full retard.

Stevens 200 staggerfeed short action w/ 3-screw trigger
Stevens 200 1:9 223 Rem sporter barrel, cut to 20"
Bell & Carlson Duramaxx stock

Ultra-premium Simmons Blazer 3-9x40 scope in Talley mounts:

Barrel free floated to ensure accuracy:

Missing the red "Fire" indicator on the tang? No worries, my finger is my safety

In seriousness, I have exactly $312 invested in that rifle as it sits (not including bipod).

I love the cheaper builds. Shoot the barrel out of it and enjoy every second of it. We all get caught up in this custom rifles to much. I am guilty as well. I have a used Remington police that shoots as good as many custom builds I seen.

I bought the rifle as it sits, except with a McGowen 16.75" varmint contour 300 Blackout barrel for $420 shipped. Didn't need another rifle, but it seemed too good to pass up.

I sold the 300 BLK barrel here on the Hide and robbed the SAV-1 trigger for my other Savage 223, and fully intended to sell the action/lug/stock but after seeing VJJ's "Bieber" thread I thought it might be nice to have a midweight beataround rifle. I installed the 3-screw trigger in the Stevens action, then bought bought the used 223 sporter barrel on Savage Shooters.

The Simmons Blazer originally came on a Savage Model 11 package rifle and was collecting dust on a shelf, so I figured it would work as a temporary optic. It ain't a Schmidt & Bender, but it holds zero...

I hope the barrel will shoot 75gr Steel Match ammo MOA or better, and if it does I'll probably have it cut to 16.75" and threaded for a 5.56 can. I'm also interested to try some Blue Dot loads with 40/45gr bullets.

A 20MOA base, Weaver 3-10x (or SWFA 12x) scope, and larger bolt knob are also penciled in for future upgrades; the rifle very well may end up being the basis of my son's first centerfire (he's two, so we've got a ways to go yet).

But until then, for $312 as it sits, I'm fine with the rifle looking "totally moronical, like the dumbest motherfucker that ever lived".

To the OP how do you like the Duramxx stock? Been thinking about possibly using that stock on my next build! Awesome gun by the way love Stevens builds!

Lemme qualify an answer by saying I have two McMillan A5s, and used to own a Manners T2 and two Bell & Carlson A2 Medalists.

The Duramaxx is a great upgrade from a factory tupperware stock, especially for $100. No bedding block but it does have pillars, but it does have a teensy bit of flex that *might* cause issues in certain circumstances. MUCH lighter than the A2 Medalist, not surprisingly. Good recoil pad, no palm swell in the grip, easy to offhand.

I'd much rather have a M40 Medalist, but Bell & Carlson has repeatedly said they aren't interested in making such a stock
