There was an article which I’m having trouble finding, discussing some of the problems associated with this - the inability to dissociate the prior “destroy” mindset from what is presently required, which is to “protect.”
On top of that, they also discussed a population of low - achieving, sociopathic bullies entrenching themselves as cadres in the Law Enforcement community.
There are serious underlying problems, no doubt.

I was on our PD SWAT team for 10 years and ALL of our training was conducted by military contract. It was actually kinda disturbing, when I mentioned it I was placed on foot patrol for 3 months
was it disturbing enough to reevaluate your employment with a para military organization?
It didnt matter, about 3 months later I got run over by a drunk driver. Its broke both my legs, my left shoulder and my back. I retired.
It is time to demiliterize our police altogether. Disband every Swat team nationwide. Take away the MRAPS, seriously what the fuck. No more no knock warrants. If our Police are not smart enough to investigate, and make arrests when suspects go to the store or are out of the house on their own then they just shouldn't wear a badge. This projection of force like they are the military is ridiculous. Too many bad situations come from this. Drawing a firearm should be a cops absolutely last resort. Seems like anymore its the 1st thing they do. Too many wrong addresses, and innocent people getting shot. We can do better than our current law enforcement is doing.

OK. i see that that could be the start of up arming. i sorta meant the armored cars and other mil stuff.
Both perps were career criminals that should have been in the pokey prior to the shootout.
Thus eliminating the chance to engage in one.

i recall the same sort of thing in a big Miami shoot out between some bank robbers and the FBI. i think that was what got the FBI to up arm.

We don’t agree on much, but this was a good thing. A lot of the swatting issue is exacerbated by crossing jurisdictions. A lot of agencies don’t have the resources or legal ability to pursue the person who started it. The Feds don’t seem to help a lot, unless it’s a repeat offender.
There is a lot of truth to this. We all have opinions on how things should be. Very few people understand any of what is going on around them; especially, in the specifics and nuances of how a certain thing is/was done. It’s easy to criticize outcomes and offer purported solutions. When uneducated (on the subject) people force solutions, it’s often at the cost of even worse unintended consequences.
A good example of this is in anti-human trafficking. A bunch of advocacy groups convinced politicians Backpage needed shut down. They got it done. Immediately, it forced traffickers further underground. Finding missing children who were trafficked went from difficult to nearly impossible. In the short term, the numbers went down, so did the funding. There wasn’t less crime, they just hid it better and made victims harder to find. Several of us warned against it, but what did we know. We were just the people putting in the effort to actually stop this shit.
Everytime I put a seal on building plans, I own it for life. That's why I have professional liabilty insurance. If someone dies, I'm at risk of jail/prison. You're saying I should never seal plans because my job comes with risk if I fuck up?
A doctor should never treat patients or do surgery because their job comes with risk?
A good portion of the general public need liability insurance in the event they fuck up. I'm for licensing of LE and a higher salary, but you fuck up, you can pay the price like others.
Where can I get some of this immunity for my job?
