I have TRG-22 and I'm trying to determine how many .001th" offf ogive I should seat bullet while working up load.

Using Sinclair Seating Depth Guage I've determined OAL of 2.868" i.e., the size of my chamber with a 175 SMK with the lands touching the ogive.

In other words should I load some with bullet ojive touching lands, some .001" or .002" off or what.

I'm using Lapula Palma brass, and either RL-15 or BLC2.

I made a dummy round and was exactly 2.868 OAL. That round went in chamber but had more resistance when locking bolt than I'm used to. I check round with Sinclair Bullet Comparator and the lands where right where they were supposed to be on the Comparator.

I'm wondering if the round being right on the lands will cause enough resistance to cause excessive pressure.

Kissing the lands, not so much but loading into the lands can increase pressure, cause the the bolt to feel tighter when closing, create a mess if you have to extract a live round and increase the wear on your lugs if you don't have enough grease. Also, before you load up a bunch of rounds seated that far out, check to see if they'll fit into your mag and feed properly. Unless of course you want to single feed them.

Measured additional distance longer in mag. I can load beyond the 2.868" dummy round at about .066".

Did another dummy round at 2.650" and bolt closed much easier but not without any resistance. Based on that I figured I'd start with first ten rounds with OAL or 2.865" and move back from there in .005" increments as suggested above.

Does above sound like a good plan or should I move starting OAL for first rounds longer than 2.865"?
