Re: Twist rate for 7mm for 168gr to 180gr vld ?

1:9 twist works for me shooting 168s from my 280AI. My bud's 7STW flings the 180s rather well from his 1:9.

My 1:8 twist is shooting 162Amax-168SMK's really well. It is a 7mm-08.

I like "too much twist"... 1:10 for a 308, 1:8 for a 7mm. That said, I jumped on a 1:9 Bartlein when I found one ready to go...sure beats waiting a year!

I've had solid results from 1:9 for both the 168 and 180 VLDs.

A 1-9 is fine for up to 180's in like a .284win. / .280Rem. type case or bigger.

If you want to try 180's in like a 7mm-08 then I would jump to a 1-8.5.

My buddy is throwing 180's out of a .270wsm necked up to 7mm and he is throwing them 3170fps. I did the twist calc. on his loads and came up with a 1-9.3 min. We do his barrels at 1-9.25.

My .284win. F-class gun is a 1-9. You can see a picture of the gun on the thread Bartlein Barrels sponsors the U.S. F-class team on the F class competition forum thread area of SH.
