Started airing on the 8th. Like WWII in HD it's a miniseries showing a great deal of uncensored footage of the war. I don't know if it's as long as WWII in color, but so far it's been pretty interesting. First episode was covering the Ia Drang Valley. They had Joe Galloway describing his experience and at times it was pretty hard to watch. Especially when he recalls the incident with having to carry jimmy nakayama to a med evac after the accidental Friendly Fire. Anyway i was wondering if anyone else was watching it.

They gave a stat (for what a TV stat is worth) that the average infantryman saw 10 days of fighting per year in WW2. In Vietnam, it was 240. How does that compare with Iraq and Afghanistan?

    Good luck

yes it is a good series. I like one of the begening quotes. " they say the WWII was the greatist generation. Our warriors since are the greatist of thier generation."

    Could not agree more.

This is what amazed me. I knew vietnam was bad but when they talked about 100% humidity with temperature over 100F, paired with swamps, insects, and the two-step snake, let alone the odd sum of half a country wanting to kill you, i was in a bit of a shock. I guess i just never really thought about it. It literally makes me cringe to think about having to be there let alone fight in those conditions. I compare it to MS for instance, which isn't even comparable. Humidity in the summer is extremely high, it sucks to work in let alone have to carry a weapon in. Then I think about how they had to walk in 8ft of elephant grass, when being in a rice field has caused me to nearly pass out because of the immense heat accumulation at times. Then the swamp etc. I mean literally sounds like the worst place on earth to fight in. The same could be said for parts of the pacific theater of WWII also, i guess. The talk of IA Drang valley is probably going to be my favorite episode. Loved when Joe quoted that one soldier stuck a small american flag on a stump and said "It's just like Iwo Jima" Seeing some of the broken arrow footage was pretty amazing also, not that any of it is good thing, but i admit it does send a surge of energy to see the military flex their muscles, like that.

It's sort of rare now a days that the history channel puts out a decent event, but this one has been spot on.

Veterans are truly amazing selfless people.

Found this Quote of Hal Moore about Joe pretty awesome also.

"I looked over and saw Joe Galloway sitting with his back against a small tree, camera in his lap, rifle across his knees. I knew why I was there. I'm a professional military man and it's my job. But what the hell was HE doing there? Turned out he was doing his job too."
