Wyoming
I knew the time was coming. Its here. One of my horses got a chunk taking out of it ham. Its been my experience that cats (mountain lions) go for the neck, dogs hamstring.

I've been tolerant of loose dogs until now, I dont want to face my grandaughter and tell her her horse got crippled.

Since its Wyoming, Loose dogs on my property are free game. There aint no where in my horse pasture I cant reach with my Model 70, 270 from the house.

Re: War on Dogs

We buried so many of the neighbors dogs when I was a kid growing up on a farm that my little sister thought we were starting a "Puppy Garden" . We had Geese on the pond , cows and horses on the pasture . After a horse got tore up and several geese went missing my Dad declared open season on Dogs and we must have killed 10 or 12 that summer . After that the neighbors all kept their dogs on their side of the fence . I always felt bad about killing the dogs but I was even more pissed at the neighbors for putting us in that position .

Great philosophy.

Re: War on Dogs

Dog....what dog...did you see a dog? I didn't see any dog.

My uncle had a mean bull and it didn't take long for everything to know not to go anywhere near that property with that bull.

Re: War on Dogs

Maybe

I owned some property awhile back that I walked for the first time unarmed except for 1911.
I came across a pack of mixed mutts, some with collars, about 10 of them. I snuck out of there and returned later with my SKS . I got all of them and some others besides.

Re: War on Dogs

Kraig, that sucks! Growing up, we lived in some thick brush, wouldnt see our horses that were turned out for a couple days at a time. One day in early summer a mare didnt come in, come to find out a dog ran her through the fence and shed spent a couple days without water. Long story short she coliced and died. I went to the neighbors (transplants from L.A.) told them in no uncertain terms what was gonna happen if I saw their dogs again. Lets just say they didnt have to buy any dog food after the week was through.

Hope the horse heals up alright.

Re: War on Dogs

sorry to hear about the horse but...if the dogs are loose on my property and hurting my animals then it is good time to try some new rounds to see how well they penetrate
