    The Frozen Tundra
Mainly starting this out of boredom and the fact that I'm trying to kind of cut down on what I'm carrying for matches. Thought maybe seeing what people around the sport are and are not carrying might help me cut down on what I have or help new shooters decide what they need to carry.

Right now my match kit includes:

    Kifaru Shape Charge
    Rain Gear
    Walsh Ammo Holder 120 rds
    Binos
    Match book holder

    Kestrel
    Pint Size Game Changer
    Tripod
    bleeder kit
    Wrist Coach/Sidewinder
    rifle kuhl
spare batteries for kester and rifle kuhl

    - Assorted Allen keys (for chassis and scope) + MPA mag lip tool

Lots of good info! Looking forward to more pics. I’m trying to decide on a new pack. I’ve been looking at the Arc’teryx Assault 30, Kifaru Shaped Charge and LBX Titan.

I’ve been buying organizer pouches and trying to consolidate my gear. I want it organized and easy to assess. My current bag is a pain because it doesn’t clamshell open, it’s a a old style half zip access from the top pack. Everything has to get stacked in perfectly and it’s annoying.

My personal experience has been that while packs that open up clamshell style are great for initial packing and look great in pics, once I get out in the dirt, mud, wet grass, the reality is I'm going to be top loading the pack anyway to keep the straps out of the dirt. This is why my trusty Eagle A-III has been hanging in there for a long time now, it's stupid simple, comfy, and with some organizer pouches it's still functional. My dream pack is a Mystery Ranch 3-day pack.

I've cut back on what I carry even further for our area matches. Medkit has been replaced with a belt mounted blow out kit. Switched back to just the ammo boxes that Alpha sends with their brass instead of novels. Frees up a lot more space.

    Fix it sticks
    Lens kit
    HDC handy w/e-dope
    Hearing aide batteries
    123 batteries
    Mini amp plate
    TAB ammo bag/pouch

That’s aside from the normal bino/lrf/kestrel/tripod/rifle/bipod/mags/bag

I've been steadily downsizing my PRS pack. Currently:

    MR 3DAP pack
    RRS TFCT24L/anvil 30
    Pint Sized GC heavy
    Precision Underground ELR rear bag
    Tab ammo SAC
    10x42 binos
    Kestrel
Tab Simple Pouch (gun lube, allen wrenches, scope tool, chapstick,...tums & tylenol)
    3pc cleaning rod
    Nalgene bottle
    good luck banana

I'm going to be switching over to the Kifaru Xray whenever it arrives. Wanted something that had a frame and belt set up like my Shape Charge but has the capacity of my 3DAP. The Shape Carries way better than the 3DAP but I can quite get the layout I want so going to give the Xray a try.

    Bag:
    MR 3DAP

    External:
    - Tripod/head
    - Small ITS Blowout Kit (SOF-T, Celox, Gloves, CPR Mask)
    - Mag Pouch with 1 magazine

I like the way @Trigger Monkey organized this post, so I’ll do the same. By current bag is a cheap 22L pack that I’m planning on replacing with a Mystery Ranch 2-day.

    Rifle Support:
    GC bag (outside of bag)
    Pump pillow (outside of bag)
    Small rear bag (sometimes)
    Rifles Only sling

Wrist coach with both blank cards & data cards

Chamber flag (most matches require them here)

    Health & Safety:
    Ear pro
    Eye pro
    First aid kit

    Comfort items:
    Rain gear top
    Small cleaning / repair kit
    Mechanix gloves

I enjoy threads like this. It’s a good way to see what others have and what I may not have thought of or could drop from my kit.

I splurged a bit and bought myself a Mystery Ranch 2 DAP the other day so I've been experimenting with different load outs to make sure it will actually work for me.

    Pack 1.jpg

This is my match load out, at least in so far as what I typically take minus a couple clif bars and the actual ammo.

    Pack 8.jpg

I'm still experimenting but on the outside of the pack I had my pillow bag, TAB rear bag, and tripod. I'm going to work out another solution for securing the tripod so I'm not using the compression straps for that.

There are two pockets in the top lid, the very top one holds a little first aid kit and sunscreen. The larger bottom pocket is the dump pouch for my Kestrel, LRF, sharpies, and stuff. Plenty of room still for other incidental items.

    Pack 2.jpg

    Pack 3.jpg

Inside the layout is much like the 3 DAP with a zippered mesh pocket and sleeve pocket on either side of the vertical zipper. There are two pouches along the back, a slit pocket and then a pocket designed for laptops. I have my ear pro, Game Changer, and knee pads in the main compartment, as you can see there's plenty of room left over for other items, not bad for 1650 cu/in pack. While I was packing all this back up, I was able to fit the pillow bag in there with some room to spare at the bottom.

    Pack 7.jpg

I figure the laptop bag will make the perfect place to store spare ammo and mags since it can be accessed from a side zipper as well, which should make topping off mags a breeze.

    Pack 4.jpg

The mesh pockets hold my sling, gloves, Hawk Hill talons, and ADA tripod adapter for the SPR. Right now I'm only using one of the sleeve pockets for my rifle maintenance kit, although I probably won't carry this during matches to be honest.

    Pack 6.jpg

    Pack 5.jpg

To be perfectly honest, as long as this pack holds up I don't see me using my Eberlestock GSII much after this. For me it's the best of both worlds, plenty of capacity and good internal organization with a better frame system to distribute weight and less death by compression straps

A lot depends on the pack you use. Some packs have a lot of pockets, other have little to none like my Stone Glacier. I bought a set of Kifaru pullouts (1 of each size) and then a couple cuben fiber pouches from Moutain Laurel Designs in each size. I also have the large Kifaru compression sack.

I can fit my tipi tarp (with stakes, etc), bivy, sleeping bag, and sleeping pad all into the Kifaru compression sack. Its nice having camp all rolled up in one spot.

I use the XL pullout for my extra clothes. I can fit my puffy layer, rain gear, gloves, extra socks, base layer all in there and it makes a good pillow.

The smallest pullout is for essentials like toothbrush, toothpaste, meds, etc.

Thanks for the thorough review. You’ve put the nail in the coffin that the 2-day will be my next pack. The only thing I’d change is I’d add a Kifaru gun-bearer for hiking with my rifle.

The only modifications/upgrades I've done is add an auxiliary strap so that I can lash my tripod to the side of my pack without using the organic compression straps and used some Velcro One-Wrap to manage the straps.

OMG too much, all the things...

    Everlestock ( heavy)
    Kestral
    kestral tripod “rail”kit
Roll of construction tape for wind flags
    Sig2400ABS/ PLRF15C
    Leupold MK4 spotter and tripod
    NVG adapter for spotter
Gopro adapter for spotter + gopro stuff
    308 & 338 bore snake + brush and patches
    electric earpro & earbuds
    batteries
    Bleed kit
    Fix it stix kit
    Mini fortune cookie
    rear squeeze and rear wedge.
2x mags plus one in the rifle
rifle, razor gen 2, raptar, dope chart , atlas 5H
    map markers, grease pen, sharpie

It has to be 100lb. luckily I don’t move much once I dismount.

Left Side Pouch is where my tripod is strapped into. Ammo is carried in standard hard plastic boxes. Think that is pretty much it if I remember. Probably forgetting something though.

I shot my first local match yesterday - was an absolute blast.

Luckily my dad has a spare tripod I can use that will get me going, but I saw a lot of people had clipboards that either zipped down from a bag or somehow attached to the tripod legs where they could write dope out before attempting each stage. Can someone aware me on those? Seems like the biggest piece of gear I’m lacking.

Or the Cole-Tac match book tab clipboard pen holder thingies..

Note Keeper and Playbook I think they call them.

It sounds like the Tripod Caddy from Armageddon Gear

The things make awesome sails. When the wind picks up watching a 1500 tripod go flying with a pair of 3k binos on them is a sight to behold.
