Whats the value of this Norinco 84S-1 223 ?

A Navy Seal friend of mine has this rifle and we are trying to find out the value of it.
It's a Norinco 84S-1 5.56x 45 (223) under folder and in original box and has never been fired.
This thing is beautiful.
His father bought it brand new and I know his father is a collector of some neat military hardware.
Here are some pics.
The only blemish on this is on the top of the hooded front sight, you can see where the paint didn't really stick good from the factory.

years ago...i had one w/ black plastic furnature......it sold w/o box for 650.00 ftf

however...me thinks the market may bear a somewhat more higher number......these were never around in much quantity

Looks like they go for around $1500 now a days.

I sold a NIB one for $1250 during the ban and same in 7.62x39
for $1000 (also before ban was repealed)

That kinda confirms what he has heard as well.
He said to sell it for $1500 but I wanted to make sure the price was in the ballpark before I posted it in the F/S section.
