Extraction issue. Need advice.

New custom barrel from renowned maker. Chambered in 6mm Creedmoor with a 1:8 twist. Only 120 rounds through the barrel, break in and load development. Reloder 16, CCIBR4, Peterson SRP brass new and the 108 ELDM. Developed a load with avg velocities 2955 fps with no pressure signs. Then all of a sudden, very stiff bolt lifts, brass and primer show no signs of pressure. Load has not changed and environmental temperatures aren’t at extreme opposites (fairly consistent). I tested lighter loads and they still produce stiff bolt lifts. I tested the load in another 6 Creedmoor I have and no issues. Barrel is mounted on a Rem 700 Stainless steel action, brand new.

Additional info: I’ve kept data on fired brass measurements and nothing has changed. Load development has always been performed within recommended powder charges, I’ve never loaded hot and been reloading since 2009. Competed in PRS and Sniper competitions with my handloads. Never had an issue. I’ve inspected the bolt to the best of my capabilities and the chamber using a bore scope and nothing odd was seen.

Worst part, is that the stiffness of the bolt lift is now at a point where I have to slam the bolt handle to get it to go up. I’ve stopped shooting

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thx

Sidearms & Scatterguns Gunsmith scored frame bad, repercussions?

Have a Les Baer in hard chrome, last 10 years been my pride and joy. Right wrist has some issues so wanted an ambi safety installed. Ordered from Baer, had them hard chrome it so everything matches. Dropped off at shop last week. Says $75-100 depending on work. Yesterday pick it up, can’t get it to engage and disengage without major effort. Says it need break in!! Told him no, too damned tight, says leave it. An hour later says come get it, seems a little better, ok. Get home and start manipulating safety, its good a few times, them just not. Look at frame and notice scratches appearing, below bottom of the left side safety. Stop, break it down to find this damned mess! Like someone took a Dremel to frame, also in front of plunger for safety, again all galled up, what tools did they use?
Was going to try and polish out with red rouge, friend says don’t touch it, bring it back, frame needs to be refinished. I know there’s gonna be a fight. He’ll try to blame me, not looking forward to it, but not gonna let him walk away either.
How to handle, because right now I’m livid. Thanks for letting me rant

Rifle Scopes Damaged Optic? w/ shot progression

UPDATE
Rather than keep bumping this to the top of the forum, I’ll just edit this post up top in bold.

Burris' repair process was about as hassle-free as it can get. Although I'm very please with Burris' response & how fast they turned the scope around, I'd rather not need any customer service in the first place. I'm probably just an outlier failure case, but this XTR3 will now be mounted on a Bergara B-14R & used for practice.

_____________________________________
4/11/23 Burris sent an RMA # and prepaid label within 24 hours of my filing a claim.
4/20/23 Burris received scope.
5/8/23 Burris repaired optic, free of charge & no questions asked. Repair notes to be mailed with scope. Shipped.

5/11/23 Repaired optic delivered with repair notes:

  • Damaged elevation turret replaced. No explanation regarding the damage.
  • Parallax & windage functioned properly.
  • Suggest that the bottoming-out may have resulted from user error due to maxed out elevation (while mounted on a B-14R in my videos below). While I suppose this is possible & it does correlate to the direction of adjustment in the videos... I'm skeptical. 90MOA total internal adjustment range * 1/2 - 30MOA base = 15MOA remaining "Down" = ~3.75" @25yds. Since the POI were <2.5" high (~10MOA @ 25yds) prior to making any adjustment, this would require an adjustment shortfall of at least ~4MOA. In reality, the shortfall would have to be even greater than this 4MOA to account for drop, however minimal the drop of a .22LR is @ 25yds.
  • Grinding noise due to "pin on the elevation turret was digging into the knob. This is caused by applying too much force onto the knob when setting the zero" - this doesn't sound like I over-tightened the Allen screws, so I don't have a clue what this means. I pushed downward too forcefully while resetting the zero stop? I may give Burris a call.
I've attached 3 more images from a quick tracking test. Point of Aim was the lower right target for all 6 groups. 5 rounds on each, shot from upper-right across to upper-left, then down to lower-left and back across to lower-right. Range @ muzzle was 50.5yds. B-14R isn't great with Eley Tenex, all 30 shots are @ 0.8" (1.6MOA).

END OF UPDATES (unless the scope breaks again)

_____________________________________

I fired sub-MOA groups @ >600 yards on Saturday, then drove around feeding cattle with the rifle in the passenger seat. I later missed two shots @ 250 yards on two different coyotes & knew something was off. I figured I just bumped the optic & lost zero, so I fired the 13 shots in the chart & recorded the results. I remounted the scope after shot #7.

Does the attached shot progression look like the results from a damaged optic? Or could this be the result from an improperly torqued stock?

I have >700 rounds through this .308 Win M700 5R, ~650 being hand loads. This rifle is my ranch gun & sees more abuse than use. Despite that, has consistently shot ~0.3 to 0.4 MOA through multiple optic changes & removal/reinstall of the factory HSP stock (bedded in 2009 @ ~100 rounds). I also double checked the COAL/CBTO/shoulders on the remaining 50 rounds from this batch of reloads, they're to my specs.

FWIW this is a new scope from a good manufacturer with less than 200 rounds on it. I'm hesitant to mention the manufacturer/model at this point and throw them under the bus before I've even contacted them. It's my understanding they have good CS, but wanted to check in here first. In the meantime, I'm considering mounting it on a .22LR & running a tracking test. It was probably going to end up that .22LR anyways...

Powder Scam?

I found some Reloader 26 in stock on a site called "Hunter-Precision.com" The price is surprising. Then I got looking around and found several kinds of impossible to find primers in stock. They have Fed 210M, Fed 215M, CCI 200s, etc. Anyone know if this site is legit? I tried to call each number listed and got nothing.

Maybe I was wrong about 20/30 yr olds

I recently started downsizing the shop and was selling off some older tools that folks don’t use anymore. Die grinders, die filer’s, a big manual screw press, big vertical band saw, lathe, etc. This is all stuff that came off old military bases and ships machine shops.

What surprised me was the number of 20/30 year olds that were interested in buying some of the stuff and knew how to use them. And the majority had a good understanding of where it came from.

I was pleasantly surprised and, if I am being honest, pleased to see this. Compared to the chuckle heads you see so often it was great to see some people with a sense of history. Well done to the parents that raised those kids.

Texas would hold gold backing the currency

A blind man could see this coming:

Bills introduced in the Texas House and Senate would create a state-issued, gold-backed digital currency.
Enactment of this legislation would create an option for people to transact business in sound money, set the stage to undermine the Federal Reserve’s monopoly on money and create a viable alternative to a central bank digital currency (CBDC).

Best ar-10 under 1700 ish

What do you guys think. Thew around the idea of a m1a but was kinda drawn back into ar-10 ideas. What’s the best ar-10 for the money around 1700. Really like the look of the stag 10 in fde. Going to make factory ceracoat a requirement lol. Yeah I know it’s dumb but I like the looks somethihg desires black. The stags are on sale for like 1350. I built a aero m5 a while back with a Wilson combat barrel. Gun was super accurate but a nightmare getting the right gas tube length and gettin the gun gassed correctly. Never ran 100 percent. Sold to a buddy to tincker with. I don’t own a dedicated 308 anymore and I miss it.

Poor Man's Scope FOV Test

I recently picked up a mid-range scope and was bummed to find it had a noticeably smaller field of view than I was expecting. I started researching FOV specs and discovered it can be difficult to compare specs across scopes due to different zoom ranges as well as limited or incompatible specs provided by mfgs.
I believe it's possible to use the reticle on a FFP scope as a method to indicate FOV as long as common magnification is used. No doubt there's room for error here but I think it makes for an easy visual comparison. If I'm off, let me know.
Starting off, here are reticle pics of my 3 current scopes at 15x & 20x. I used 15x & 20x as I believe these two magnification settings will cover most scopes.

Feel free to add your own but use 15x or 20x to keep results comparable. Putting something translucent in front of scope provided best conditions for camera to focus on reticle.

Accessories PRICE DROPS! Optics added!: Burris eliminator 3 $800 obo, Eotech 512 $360, Reconyx TrailCam, etc.

Getting rid of some things that are just sitting and won't get used by me. A lot of small $ items so shipping is on the buyer. Over $75 purchase the shipping is on me. Everything is OBO, will entertain discounts for bundles. Can post/pm more pictures. I can accept Paypal FF (or you cover fees), Zelle, personal check or USPS MO (once check clears). If you are new or don't have feedback here I may require verification depending on the item. I'm perfectly willing to facetime or provide custom pictures if you need, however, I’m not an idiot and know the common scams so if you seem fishy I’m going to default to FaceTime.

Burris Eliminator 3 4-16 laserscope. This model ranges reflective targets to 1200 and non-reflective (i.e. deer) to 750. I've had it out to 1000 on a 300wm no problem. Found it pretty consistent with my swarovski rangfinder. Comes with factory accessories (sun shade, lens covers, mounting plates and clamps, etc) including user manual, mounting instructions, and ballistic table. Scope has been durakote (air cured) and has held up well. I've probably had less than 100 rounds through this as it was on a hunting rifle and now i'm back on the east coast and don't have a range beyond 300 yards. Asking $800 tyd.

0.0.1 Fix-it sticks scope jack. Don't have the allen but the scope leveler is new. Bought it and then realized i only use 1-piece mounts and this only works for 2-ring sets. $25 plus shipping.

0.1. $360 FINAL DROP
Eotech 512 HWS. June 2015 manufacture. Includes just the standard battery cap, visible laser cover sold. Barely used, just some safe rash on the cover. Great shape.

0.1.2 $80 Bushnell outdoorsman Bluetooth speaker+charger. It’s camo so buy it. Sealed in box. Got this as a gift for spending way to much money at target sports. New never opened still has factory seal on it.

1. $275 Reconyx Hyperfire Professional IR TrailCam (PC900). Top of the line camera, great images, we recently moved into town so don't have any use for it. This is the professional covert series and what I used as a wildlife biologist.

4. $10 Tapco forward grip. Good shape, has had the camo wrap on it since purchase, I found I just don't like this style of grips.

10. $10 S&W M&P15 carbine stock. This is a takeoff from the factory rifle. some rattlecan but great shape.

12. $15 Quad rail. Replaced the standard handguard on the M&P. Rattlecanned. needs the delta ring (not included).

13. $10 Milspec handguard off of M&P 15. needs delta ring (not included)

15. $5 Picatinny rail covers (4). rubber, good shape.

17. $5 Pair of AR pistol grips. One is rattlecanned, one is never used.

18. $40 Blackpoint FNX-45 hybrid OWB RH holster. Practically new, added a light on my FNX and this is for w/o a light. Very comfortable and great retention. 1.5" belt loops.

19. $5 Magpul Replacement buttpad (w/spare bolts) .30"

20. $5 AR-15 mag coupler. can't remember the brand, this is just a plastic double mag coupler. Be the most tactical guy at the public range (before you get kicked off for doing mag dumps).

22. $5 Active Seasons Bino Harness. Uses standard male buckle attachment. Has female buckles on the harness, you just need some male buckles attached to your binos.

23. $20 What I am assuming is an M1A mag. Fits 20rds of factory .308. See pictures to verify. Can give measurements if needed. Unmarked.

Let me know if I'm way off on prices. Tried to price fairly and some will be more to ship than what i'm asking so feel free to bundle.

I will be verifying function of electronics before shipping, and can provide proof of working order.

Trades: Eotech HWS that aren’t 5xx series, manners cert, arc nucleus prefit, ariska offset mount, etc.

Smokey Shoulders

Why am I getting smokey shoulders on two different BRA chambered barrels?

My first barrel the dimensions were a touch off so I just figured it had something to do with that.

Now with a new barrel I’m seeing the same thing. First firing of Lapua all necks seem to seal up tight with no carbon on shoulder. I went and checked some speeds with once fired and sure as shot they all have carbon down the shoulder.

Virgin Lapua was running 2750-2760
Once fired I went from 2785-2850 all showing Smokey shoulder.

Brass prep went as follows:

Amp annealed
SAC modular w/ .263” bushing and .2405” mandrel

Shoulder was not pushed back on these as they chambered w/o resistance.

Only trades would be optic.

What makes the Vortex Gen 3 6-36 worth $1300 more than the Bushnell XRS3?

I am looking for something to put on a 6CM RPR to try out precision shooting. Having read that I should spend at least as much on optics as the rifle I was looking at the Bushnell XRS3. I haven't spent much time behind higher-mag LR scopes, so I was just wondering what benefits I might get for spending $1300 more on the Vortex?

WHat specs or features should I be looking for that are worth paying extra for?
