Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot Believes Race and Gender Contributed to Her Reelection Loss

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) has attributed her loss in Tuesday’s election in part to racial and gender-based discrimination.

News One reported that after conceding Chicago’s mayoral election on Tuesday, Lightfoot was asked if she believed her race and gender had contributed to her loss.

“I’m a Black woman in America,” she replied. “Of course.”

Lightfoot has expressed versions of this sentiment since the beginning of her campaign.

NPR noted that when Lightfoot announced she would be seeking reelection back in June, she told supporters, “I’m a Black woman in America. People are betting against us every single day.”

Lightfoot told the New Yorker in a late February interview that she believed her race and gender contributed to her being “portrayed in the media” as an ineffective mayor.

“And, look, also, I am a Black woman—let’s not forget,” she told the publication. “Certain folks, frankly, don’t support us in leadership roles.”

Lightfoot has only 17.1 percent of votes against Paul Vallas’s 33.8 percent share and Brandon Johnson’s 20.3 percent, the New York Times election dashboard indicates. With only six percent of the vote outstanding, it is possible to project that Lightfoot will fail to advance to the runoff election.

As Breitbart News noted Tuesday night, Lightfoot is the first Chicago mayor to lose a reelection bid in four decades.

The Chicago Sun-Times noted Lightfoot’s loss came at a time when “violent crime and the perception of it [are] foremost on the minds of voters.”

Chicago Police statistics show reports of serious crimes increased by 41 percent from the previous year in 2022.

ABC 7 Chicago noted in 2022 that Chicago’s murder rate per capita was four times higher than New York City’s.

Meanwhile, citing data from the Office of the Inspector General, CWB Chicago reported the Chicago Police Department had shrunk by more than 1,500 officers between Lightfoot’s inauguration in 2019 and 2023.

However, even as recently as January, Lightfoot expressed optimism about her approach to crime issues.

“When it comes to addressing crime in our city, I’ve got a plan — and it’s working,” she wrote in a tweet.

— Lori Lightfoot (@LoriLightfoot) January 10, 2023
At a March 2022 symposium on “Mental Health, Substance Use, and Violence Prevention,” Lightfoot described violence as “a symptom of poverty,” CBS News reported.

“And if we want lasting peace in our city, we’ve got to address those root causes,” she added.

Lightfoot told the New Yorker in February, “The traditional strategy of law enforcement first and only, with nothing else, it does not work.”

CA Ranger - I might just do it.

I am looking for a decent .22lr bolt rifle for myself and to help my kids get more proficient with dialing turrets and bolt guns in general. We have a really good maple seed program in my area, so there are many competitions for the kids to enjoy.

I am looking at buying a CA Ranger 22. For me it checks so many of the boxes, but I haven't ever seen one in real life.

I keep going back and forth between the Ranger, the Bergara BMR CF, or a CZ 457 variant. While the CZ seems like a good option, the price ends up creeping up really quick for me since I dont want to spend money on features that I will inevitably upgrade like stock or barrel...

The Ranger just seems like it has the trigger, barrel and "decent" stock; all of which means nothing if it doesn't shoot well.

Bergara BMR CF is light but maybe doesn't shoot as well as the standard version and has basically no aftermarket support but if its like my Bergara and others I have shot, accuracy should be no problem.

CZ 457 gets heavy for the kiddos but its probably the best investment overall.

Long story short I'm probably going to buy a CA Ranger 22, if this is a disaster of an idea someone please stop me.

Rant: stupid hospitals

Wife had surgery, I've stayed with here the whole time. Why in the fuck is the chair/couch/bed situation so fucked for the non patient? I'm not the one fucked up on pain meds but I have to sit in this torcher device of a chair.... im not asking for a massaging lazy boy but christ there has to be a better option for the support person.

Groundbreaking Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot loses reelection ...

Heavy bolt lift with mild 6cm load

I am a relatively new reloader and am having a strange problem with my 6cm load showing signs on over pressure with a mild load of 40.0gr. The bullets will chamber just fine but after firing the bolt is sticky on extraction and I’m not sure if the brass looks ok or not.

Components:
- Virgin Lapua 6cm SRP brass
- 40.0gr of H4350
- Federal 205M small primers
- Hornady 110gr ATip seated to COAL of 2.790
- Hornady reloading manual

Equipment:
- A419 zero press
- Short Action Customs Dies
- 21st century mandrel
- Redding #1 shellholder
- SuperTrickler
- A&D FX120i scale
- Magnetospeed (40.0gr gave me an average of 2950fps over 25 rounds)

Rifle:
- Defiance deviant tactical
- 6CM Hawk hill barrel, 26”, 1:7 twist
- The rifle was chambered and assembled by Altus

The brass has not been sized, I only used a mandrel to straighten the case necks and set the bullet tension to about .0015

I took a quick measurement and it looks like the brass shoulders grew about .006-.007 after firing, is that normal?

The pictures I posted are of the fired brass, I found two of them on the right side that appeared odd to me, seems like the primer is flattened. I also see what appears to be swipes (although I’m not sure if they are false or not) and one round had what looks like soot on it after I fired it. Do the others show any signs of over pressure?

I worked up this load using the Hornady manual which shows the max at 41.7gr of H4350, so I’m not sure why I’m seeing pressure signs at this load weight. The previous lighter loads did not have a heavy or sticky bolt lift. Any help would be appreciated.

My silencer central experience

Well, I went into this with an open mind and here are the facts. Form your own opinions.

1. I certified 2 suppressors last year one day apart. Same suppressors, and all of the info was identical, but when one of them was approved on the third day of this Feburary, and the other was declined because they messed up something on my form, so I'm back to the back of the bus for probably another year+ at this point.

2. The suppressor approved on Feb 3rd is still not shipped. That's 25 days ago. It has been showing the 7 day wait period for notifying local law enforcement since about the 7th. I called on Monday Feb 20th and nobody answered, so I left a message on their machine, and then immediately followed that up with an email. On Thursday February 23rd I still hadn't received any type of response, so I called again and left another message and an additional email. Later that day they sent me an auto generated link to leave them internal feedback. I gave them the business in the review, with lengthy explanation, and then checked the box marked "would you like to be contacted about this", um, yep. Well, yesterday was Monday the 27th, 24 days since approval and they haven't called or sent me a single email, so I called again and got a warm body. I asked him what the problem was, and he told me that the letter they sent to local law enforcement may or may not have gotten there, he couldn't tell. I told him about my frustrations, and that I couldn't even get anyone to call me back. He assured me that he would determine what the problem was and would call me back the same day...... surprised right.... never happened. Now it's Tuesday afternoon, 25 days since approval and it's still sitting in their warehouse, and they have still never returned a single phone call or email.

You guys do whatever you want, but as for me and mine, silencer central will no longer be a consideration for any purchases. Some of the most pathetic customer service I've ever seen.
