Help me diagnose if this Barrel is Clean enough?

Hi,

I just got a new 33XC barrel for my AI AXMC. Shot 50 round as part of barrel breakin. I have cleaned the barrel multiple times during the firing process (5 shots strings).

I am not very familiar with how the interior of a barrel should look like after cleaning. I understand there could be differing perspectives on this, but as this is an ELR build every bit of consistency/precision is of utmost value. Can experienced shooters look at the video on below given link and help me diagnose the barrel condition?

Link To Video

1. The space between raised ridges (grooves) looks black in initial portion after breech. Is that black color normal or signs of excessive carbon buildup.

2. I also see some kind of web like structures/cracks in first 10 inches of barrel. What is that?

3. The last 15 inches of barrel look diff vs first 15 inches of this 30 inch barrel. In last 15 inches the barrel is lot more whitish and it is difficult to figure out where grooves are. Is this normal or something else is going on.

4. Any other feedback/readings you have on this barrel.

Grateful for your time and assistance on this.

Loose under recoil, tripod

I have a Anvil 30 and a recently purchased two-vets ballhead. Using an ARCA attachment, the rifle wants to come off the clamp with rear-ward recoil after a few hots. happened with both setups.

Other than a lot more forward pressure, anything to help maintain the rifle in position?

When mounted with a Pic rail (and crossbar, obviously this is not an issue.

Thanks!

Meanwhile on Garand Thumb

This isn't about do you like Mike Jones. This isn't even about the guest shooter.
I'll go with Mike on this one. It turned out to be a good story.

Spoiler. 22LR @ 710 yards? I'd go with not possible. However, he did land one within near spitting distance and that in itself is outstanding.
The guest shooter did get a hit on a coke can at 300 yards. Put that in perspective for the casual shooter, pretty much not going to happen.
For the experienced rimfire shooter it may happen. Give an experienced shooter quality ammunition and the chances increase. Give an experienced shooter a purpose built rifle, quality ammunition, optic, and easy environmental, then it's on the edge of consistency.

At 300 yards.

Move the goalpost out to 400 and cut the hit probability in half.
Move the goalpost out to 500 and cut the hit probability in half again.
Move the goalpost out to 600 and cut the hit probability in half again.
Move the goalpost out to 700 and ...

I know there are some rimfire shooters here that have thousands of dollars in equipment and tens of thousands of rounds experience .
My own experience pales in comparison. Still, I have a very good idea of what it takes to get out to 300 yards with iron sights and 500 yards with optics. At 300 yards and iron (quality peep sights) I can worry a target. At 500 yards with a good optic) I'm somewhere between minute of garage and barn door.

So please, what does the experienced rimfire crowd have to say about this?

Terminus vs Curtis Quick Change

I am wanting to build a Quick Change Rifle. I am eyeing Terminus Zeus and the Curtis. Which do you prefer?

I already have 3 custom actions with shouldered prefits. So wanting something quick change to play with.

Anyone mess with both of them? I am going to use to put on my varmint rifle.

One barrel for Coyotes and then another with subsonic. Likely a 6Dasher (light weight version of my comp rifle) and 8.6BLK (just because). I know they won't be exact on POI for 2 totally different types of calibers.

Barrel for a 16" Recce build?

Looking to finish off my 16" Recce build with a LPVO Sig tango. Naturally, the barrel that came to mind for this build was a Criterion Core... which is proving to be difficult like playing a game of cat and mouse.

Ideally, I would like to keep the weight down as I plan to be mobile with rifle for drills, carrying etc. Another option that came up that similar profile( minus the chrome lining) was Rainier Arms ultralight 223 Wylde barrel. Then of course I've looked at Faxon Gunner Match ( seems this is hit or miss literally) Or their fluted series.

Can you help a brother out and recommend a barrel before I break down from analysis paralysis. ?

ZEISS Presents New Flip-Up and Fold-Flat Lens Covers for Riflescopes

ZEISS Presents New Flip-Up and Fold-Flat Lens Covers for Riflescopes
All-new, heavy-duty lens covers with unique features which provide valuable protection for ZEISS customers.

Flip-Up-Folded Flat-LRP S3 Atop Centerfire Rifle-with Sunshade-CC_49 copy.png

White Plains, NY – February 21, 2023

New for 2023, ZEISS offers added protection for ZEISS riflescopes in the form of ‘Flip-Up and Fold-Flat Pro Lens Covers’. These heavy-duty lens covers are designed with several key – and proprietary – features that set them apart from similar products currently available. Retail prices are $34.99 for the ocular lens covers and $49.99 for the objective lens cover. The new accessories will be available from ‘Authorized ZEISS Retailers’ in North America, beginning late April 2023.

“Our all-new flip-up lens covers are manufactured with a robust stay-secure dual-clamping system and provides OEM fitment for current ZEISS riflescopes; they also offer a few extra unique features as well,” said Kyle Brown – Director of Marketing/Product for Carl ZEISS SBE, LLC. “These lens covers remain open and secured in place when in the folded-flat, shooter-ready position – even under heavy recoil. They offer great protection from the environmental elements and will help keep those valuable lenses from getting scratched. The benefit is simple: clean and scratch-free optics at-the-ready. And clean optics will help you deliver precise and accurate hits on target.”

Developed and designed with purpose and functionality.

ZEISS will offer a total of nine unique sizes, each providing an excellent OEM fit for each ZEISS riflescope. All are manufactured in the USA with Nylon 11 material to resist harsh UV light and maintain proper fitment – even with extreme shifts in temperature – and reduce weight. Each lens cover utilizes dual clamps with stainless steel hardware and springs to ensure long-term fit and serviceability. Both ocular and objective lens covers provide a fold-flat securing system which allows for the flip-up cap to be held in the shooter-ready position parallel with the scope’s main tube, and then remain there, secure during recoil.

Additional Proprietary Features.

The design of the objective lens cover offers two proprietary and rather unique features: 1) The integrated spare battery containment system provides the user with the immediate ability to have a spare battery for when and where it’s needed most: in the field. 2) The on-board spare Torx® wrench containment system provides a secure and out-of-the-way, yet handy, location for keeping this valuable turret tool where it belongs – with the scope. All these features provide great benefits for the hunters and shooters.

Bolt Lubrication

Hi All,

Just a heads up in case any of you ever need this. One of my bolt guns action was made by Defiance Machine. The bolt is beautifully polished but if you read the fine print it is steel in the white, not stainless, being in the white means no oxide coating or anything, so it needs to be lubricated all over to protect the finish from corrosion.

I had been using a light coat of Mil-Comm TW25B grease - a great product which I use on all the lugs on bolts. Problem is that sand and dust sticks to it especially when out on windy days.

I was buying stuff a month ago and saw a WD40 Dry Lubricant on Amazon. So, I bought it to test it on all my bolt guns. So far it's been great. I still use the grease on the lugs but use the dry lube on the rest. Bolts run super smooth slick. It's a volatile, evaporating spray - just spray it, let it sit for a bit then lightly wipe the excess off (if any) and it leaves the dry lubricant behind - so far no sand or other shit is sticking to the bolts like it used to. And no corrosion... Here's what it looks like:

Need Thoughts regarding Retirement on the Texas Gulf Coast

I semi-retired in September 2021, as in retired from 60 hour weeks at UPS. I immediately started working two days a week in a LGS just to keep a little structure in my life, etc. At some time in the future, I'm going to fly the coop and GTFO of Minnesota for any and all reasons. My wife has always wanted to live near the ocean, and I've got a soft spot for Texas. The Gulf Coast of Texas has our eye; what say you who know? I know property tax is high but that won't apply here as I'm a T&P disabled vet. Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Mrs FPGT72 we ruined your tire......thoughts from the collective.

That was the phone call from the wife got on Friday. Last week we go out to leave for work and her tire is flat as can be. I air it up and tell her if she feels it funny to call me. She has raced before and knows how a car feels. She has also spent time under a car, and had carbs apart on kitchen tables.....she is not an idiot when it comes to vehicles. She gets to work fine and is in meetings all day with folk from over seas. During lunch she runs out and flat. This time she can see a nail on top, so at least we know now. One of the other girls there has a 12v pump and they air up her tire, she will follow my wife to the tire shop and give her a lift back. She has a pump of her own, but now wants one of these, its faster. Its ok, I am a tool junkie as well.

Phone rings an hour later and she thinks her car is done and ready to pick up. Nope.

Tire dude: ahh, Mrs FP, we tore up your tire trying to get it off the rim, all our fault.
wife: well the tires are old, I was just trying to hold out till july.
Tire dude: We will give you a new tire.
wife: Ok I want xyz, model abc.
Tire dude: well I don't have those in stock, I can get them monday (friday remember)
Wife: well give me one to drive on till monday.
Tire dude: well we can't, you car is AWD and it will screw stuff up.
Wife: let me call my husband
Tire dude: What if we give you 4 new tires
Wife: that does not sound right me knowing I needed them anyway, let me call my husband.

She rings me and tells me the entire deal, yea cars don't like having one different tire, even if it was the same make it could be bad, one being new and the others being REALLY old. She tells me he has this other tire and asks if they are ok. Yea they are fine name brand and a good tire. So should she do it, yea just replace all now, pay for three, and get him to toss in a free alignment.

She calls back lays it out for him. I am told he is in shock she is not ranting and raving. Says she will do it, pay for three if he can toss in an alignment. He says sure, and he will give her the other three tires at cost. Her last question was how soon. He knew she was having a real busy day, he could have the tires done in an hour, but he would need another hour for the alignment, he can do that next week, but don't wait too long. She got the car back in an hour and taking it back on Tuesday.

Guy was in shock she was so mellow about it all, she told them she knows about changing tires both her and I drove race cars, and built one from scratch, yup that little 100lb 5' nothing female. He thanked her up and down and it is a done deal.

So thoughts from the collective. I see it a little like the shopping cart rule, it was just the right thing to do.

Not that I really care, but just interested in what the collective thinks.

15 minute cities

For those that have forgotten recent history. This is EXACTLY the Soviet existence. Within a few buildings around you, your kids go to school, your local supermarket, your work. Within a few city blocks you will have no need to leave the area in your daily life.

CONTROL over individuals as they will not have the means to travel, move, speak, purchase, learn outside of the small area module those who sit above have deemed necessary for you.

If they move from animal protein to insect protein, what are you going to do? No means to travel or transport anything, meet, rally, anything.

The Great Reset involves pushing us back to Soviet era control of citizenry. We are not learning from history, but the Globalists are and actively trying to apply it.
