Question on Service Record

Picking this as perhaps the best category for this question. My wife was going through old papers today and some were from her father in WW2.

Under Decorations and Citations are the following. Awarded 4 Bronze Stars for Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes. Campaigns per LTR ETOUSA 1944. Purple Heart with 2 OLC per GO 26 Hq 357 Inf 6 Feb 1945. Silver Star per GO 176 Hq 90 Inf 6 Dec 1944. Bronze Star per GO 94 Hq 90 Inf 20 oct 44.

I am guessing he was at Normandy and have no idea if he was in the initial invasions but it appears he was there and went all the way with Patton through the Rhine. Guessing because he never said much about his time but did mention serving under Patton. It seems to me he was a fairly serious dude.

So, what can anyone tell me about this?

Can You Overtighten Scope Ring Screws at The Base?

Ok, so I've mounted scopes and never had an issue. Just got a new rifle with a picatinny rail and I'm using Vortex rings. I've ALWAYS followed manufacturer's specs to tighten scope rings around the base of the actual rifle rifle/optic which is usually 15-18 inch pounds.

Vortex says the base rings though that attach the base to the rail should be tightened to 40 inch pounds. In the past I've always tightened these screws at base parts on rings an cantilevers as tight as I generally can (probably way beyond 40 inch pounds).

While I'm not saying that's a good idea or not, I've never damaged anything or noticed a difference in accuracy. Is it a problem to tighten these base screws for rings and cantilevers (not the top closure of the rings that go around the scope) just the base rings too tight?

Poll: 1 in 4 Millennials Say Parents Cover Their Rent

Roughly a quarter of millennials say their parents cover their rent, and 35 percent of U.S. adults say their parents still pay for at least one of their bills, a new poll found.
The New York Post reported on the survey Friday, which was conducted with 2,000 Americans by OnePoll on behalf of Chartway Credit Union. The survey found that the top three expenses parents pay for their adult children are rent (19 percent), groceries (19 percent), and utilities (16 percent).
Almost 25% of millennials' parents cover their rent: poll https://t.co/4EHHqAKqDl pic.twitter.com/wnvYUDUEnN
— New York Post (@nypost) January 27, 2023
“About three-quarters of those respondents (72 percent) plan to take on these bills themselves within the next two years, but 30 percent admit they will be riding the wave until they’re told otherwise,” according to the report.
Thirty-one percent of respondents say they accept their parents’ help because they are trying to save money.
But despite enlisting their parents’ financial assistance, 85 percent of those polled say they are responsible with money. Seventy-three percent report opening their first bank account by the time they turned 25 years old, and 21 percent say they had a bank account before they turned 18. Whether they had a bank account or not, 30 percent of respondents say they had their own money to spend by the time they were 15 years old.
“How to spend and save responsibly are lifelong lessons,” Brian T. Schools, President/CEO of Chartway Credit Union, said. “It’s noteworthy to see that over three-quarters of those surveyed have been managing their own money for most of their lives. Still, a third of respondents find it difficult to find helpful resources to manage their finances.”
Half of adults did say they struggle to tamp down on frivolous spending, and 45 percent say they do not handle unexpected expenses well. Forty-percent say they struggle to pay their bills on time. Those poll struggle less with taxes (32 percent) and keeping a high credit score (26 percent).

Nearly 40 percent of millennial’s polled did say they have difficulty finding accessing useful resources to help them understand their finances. That percentage is much higher than for baby boomers, 11 percent of whom said they struggle finding useful financial information.

“While 85 percent of respondents see themselves as financially responsible when it comes to things like credit scores or savings, ironically, 50 percent of them struggle with unnecessary spending or unbudgeted expenses, and 40 percent struggle to remember to pay bills on time,” Schools continued. “Conflicting data such as this tells us that a lot more adults could benefit from some form of financial education, whether it’s provided in schools, online, or by their financial institutions.”

HILARIOUS!!!!

Scope Recommendation

Good afternoon, I had posted on another thread about wanting to do a M40 platform tribute build. I say tribute because its going to be left handed, and in 6.5 Creedmoor. I have had ZERO proper training in the use of optics. So whatever I get will be going with me to training and classes.

I'm needing scope recommendations and I'll list the ones I'm looking at. All of them are FFP and in MRAD. The rifle will be used in a predominantly bench rest, prone, competition, and class shooting role. It might go hunting with me as well. Max range I have access to is 1,100 yards. I though about getting a Leupold Mk 4 4.5-15x50 but its not FFP has mismatched MOA knobs on a MIL reticle, which I read on this sight isn't ideal. I was also warned that just because the military uses it doesn't mean its the best option. I'm a little nervous about "christmas tree" reticles as they look busy to me. However I realize that they might be the best option and I need to be open-minded and could be trained on it from the start.

Here are the ones I'm considering. My max dollar right now is $1,500

1. Arken SH4 GEN2 4-16X50mm FFP MIL VPR
2. Arken EPL4 4-16x44 FFP MIL VHR Illuminated Reticle
3. Athlon MIDAS TAC HD 4-16×44 APRS2 FFP MIL
4. BurrisXTR III 3.3-18x50mm - SCR Mil
5. NIGHTFORCE SHV 4-14X50 F1 .1 MIL -ILLUMINATED MIL-R RETICLE
6. Vortex Viper PST GEN II 3-15X44 FFP
7. Bushnell ELITE TACTICAL 3.5-21X50 DMR3 RIFLESCOPE G4P RETICLE

What's you're life expectancy?

They released the bodycam.

You're an ex-cop, with four of your partners, on video brutally beating a guy so bad he bled out internally three days later.

You've been charged with murder. Not much of a defense since it's all on video.

You're headed to a jail that is so ridiculously violent, it's had the nickname of Thunderdome for over 20 years.
