Craddock Precision 6 rifle, 6.5 Grendel test day - Pangris 13.9" Mod 1, 14.5" Mod 2, and 18" RTR

It finally happened. I've tried to do this for months, and the fourth or fifth time was the charm between weather, work conflicts and methodology problems.

First, huge thanks to Ben of Roaming Shot in Slaughter, LA. Ben runs the best 1,000 yard range in the region that I'm aware of - air conditioned with an expert and a work bench close at hand.

As is known, I'm a fan of the 6.5 Grendel, and I own a few examples of it - over the years, between builds and group buys and so forth, I apparently made enough of an impression on Mr. Craddock that he named a run of barrels after my likeness. I have no interest or commission from these, and it may have been a shrewd business decision on Craddock's part to get me and my friends to buy even more. It worked - then Murphy's law kicked in. The initial barrels that shipped had a problem from the factory. When they realized the issue, Paul proactively contacted customers, got them back, and replaced them.

So, getting mine built took a minute longer than I'd hoped, but the wait was more than worth it. Between me, my sons and our hunting buddies we ended up with three sets of twins - (2) 13.9" with a .625 thickness Pangris Mod 1's built on Thunder Ranch edition Aero matched sets, (2) 18" .750 fluted RTR's that are rebarreled SOLGW rifles, and (2) 14.5" .750 fluted Pangris Mod 2's, one built on a Battle Arms Ultralight matched set, one built on an Aero green anodized matched set, both with Smoke Composites furniture.

To make a long story short, my first couple trips to my home range were unsatisfying. I have an SWFA SS 20x I use as a reference scope, and I couldn't get the type of group I expected based on my prior experience with Craddock. I'd have a three shot clover and then I'd throw one or things would open up. One method problem was rushing - with one scope, once I dialed in "ish" at 50 and moved to 100, the barrels - particularly the skinny ones - were just not producing the results I hoped for.

So today, we used multiple reference scopes and shot others in between, i.e. they cooled down for at least 20 min between strings. The result, praise Thor, was excellent. Ben proved all 6 barrels were shooters. We started with Hornady 123 ELD and it provided 1" or less in the first 4 rifles. My BAD 14.5" eats ELD-V 100 gr and that also went MOA or better for 5 shots. I was very happy in general.

Naturally, number 6, one of the 13.9" .625s did not cooperate. As a matter of fact, with Ben behind the trigger, he was vocally surprised at the size of the groups, so we let it cool down again and shot some other stuff - and then printed about 10 shots that were the worst of the day, probably a 2.5" vertical string, and over an inch wide. We decided to let it cool again and then try another type of ammo. In the most significant display of ammo preference I've ever seen, 30 minutes later it put 5 rounds of Nosler 120 gr into about half an inch. Pictures labeled "Ammo matters" are the same gun back to back. I would not have taken that bet, but I watched Ben put Noslers through the same hole twice. I had been ready to throw that rifle in the river on previous trips. It further reinforced to me that it takes not only skill but time, equipment, various ammo and the physical resources to really determine what a rifle can do.

I'm happy to say we also ran my sons' Craddock bult AR-10s which I had about given up on - to the point I offered them for sale because we couldn't get them to run reliably with a can - but dual ejector bolts have turned them into boringly reliable hammers. To be clear, he built the uppers on my parts to my spec previously so I got what I asked for. The Shilen barrels he turned for those have always been laser beams.

Last but not least, we played with the Athlon Cronus CL35 640 and it continues to impress. This unit has a built in laser range finder, ballistic calculator, 10 profiles etc etc - but what had me baffled is it has yet to require zero'ing across multiple rifles to be minute of pigyote from the word go. I need to work up a precision protocol and determine reliability and so forth - but - in short, I'm sold. I put it in front of my 20" Noveske with a VX6 HD 3x18 50mm and a 12.5" Noveske with a VX6 HD 1-6 with a 30mm tube and it shot dead center with the 1-6, about 2" high with the 3-18, and then did it again cycling on and off. Very, very impressed.

Solid day at the range - thanks to Paul Craddock for building me some of my favorite guns, thanks to Ben of Roaming Shot for building a 1000 yard range and being so generous with his skill set, and thanks to my sons and hunting buddies for the loaners so we could put lead through paper. Oh, and to Athon for the T&E unit, although I don't think they are getting it back at this point.

Due to the nature of the range, target photos are with a cell phone through a spotting scope, apologies for the quality there - but - I'm satisfied that with a little more effort re: ammo selection and break in, they should all hang with the best of them.

So question for moderators and HMFWIC….

Since they are clearly our enemies and are at war with us… and not just at a low level …

Can we start calling a spade a spade?

Because the ChiComs, slopes, zips, rice balls, bad-drivers, hop-sings, Manchurian soy-suckers, fortune-cookie-Ching-Chong’s, no-tikee-no-shirtee, are clearly our enemies and deserve no quarter. Including lamponing the shit out of them like the sub-human Tieneman-square-massacring tank-pilots they are.

Can we please start using the appropriate shorthand and calling them $&@?ing Chinks… without getting a ban hammer threat?

I am, of course, certainly glad to abide by community rules and *not*’refer to them as Chinks as long as the community standard applies.

But given the current state of the world, I do ask for an official ruling from the top. And will totally abide by what is decided.

Even if does favor the commie Chinks.

Poor experience with warranty service at Bullet Central. Any senior from the company on this forum?

I recently had a frustrating and disappointing experience with Bullet Central regarding a malfunctioning Bix N Andy trigger. The trigger had locked up and wasn’t functioning correctly despite being used lightly and maintained as well as I could.

I reached out to Bullet Central support and was in touch with Jacob M . I provided detailed information, photos, and even a video to illustrate the problem. His response? Clean it. You are not cleaning it well. I disassembled everything to parts and assembled. Still not working. Response you do not know how to assemble so I will have to charge you.

2A companies are usually more customer centric than normal companies. This one is terrible.

I asked if I could send the unit in for evaluation and was told I could—but that any repairs would not be covered under warranty. I was shocked. No acknowledgment of possible manufacturer defect, no ownership of customer support responsibility—just a flat response that I’d be charged regardless.

The entire interaction felt dismissive and transactional. For a premium product sold by a company that markets itself as a leader in precision shooting, the lack of accountability and empathy was troubling. Jacob’s tone and unwillingness to assist meaningfully made the experience even more frustrating.

If you’re considering buying or servicing Bix N Andy trigger through Bullet Central, think twice. If anything goes wrong, don’t expect much.

I had very well priced Berger bullets over $1200 in the cart. Was checking with them why a coupon was not working before ordering. Thanks to this experience that business is going to someone else.

TL;DR: Poor warranty service from Bullet Central for BixNAndy trigger. Technician was dismissive and unhelpful. Would not recommend the company and because of the company being sole distributor the trigger which otherwise is amazing.

Gentlemen

I have two stocks from Terry Cross that just arrived, and they don't belong to anyone Terry said they are over runs. I can build a 308 or a 6.5 creed. One has a Rem VBC and the other has a Krieger Heavy contour and both are set up for the Badger EFR night vision mounts.

The build times should be appx. 4 to 5 months if anyone is interested let me know 310-275-8797

Thank you

Moving forward, weekend scammers

Hey,

As many saw we had a weekend exploit with a bunch of scammers copying real members and causing some headaches.

One of the things we did was, we went in and recovered several of the hacked accounts and returned them to their owners

So that means, you can't report them from the weekend because nothing is the same. The team is going through and correcting a lot of these problems as we speak and that all started yesterday.

It sucks, they got in and were able to edit their accounts to resemble trusted users, that is part of their game. To ruin the experience for everyone. They (scammers) reported real accounts, spoofed real accounts, and generally just made a mess of things.

We changed a lot, we tied as much down as we can, and we are using the tools at our disposal to remove them. The Logs are being used to sweep the site as best we can. With VPN, AI, and the ability to have unlimited email addresses, it's a game of whack a mole but we are playing it.

Sorry this happened, continue to stay vigilant, but know many of the compromised accounts have been fixed.

The flip side to the ICE riots. Were we set up ?

This is kind of long so it probably won't get much traction. They make some good observations in regards to what are probably the true motives behind the riots.

It's all a little too convenient for me. For those holding out hope for trump being on our side, I think we've been had. Enjoy.

Figured out what us 2020RF Springfield owners need to do to fix them.

So I decided to play with a Springfield 2020 RF to see if they are really as bad as they say they are......Mine sucked bad. Shot almost 5" at 100 yards.

So I tried to see what I could do to make it better. There was a thread here asking about barrel and I decided not to clutter that thread up and just start a separate one.

I did end up getting mine to shoot fairly well.

I posted this before and deleted it but will repost it once again. (A short story of our "justice system").

The last time I tried telling the story I got the expected responses and deleted it because I didn't think the conversation was going anywhere fruitful/beneficial. That said- I'm going to post it again and this time we'll just let the chips fall where they lay.

Two years ago, I want to say it was two days after Thanksgiving, I took my sister-in-law to a local AHL hockey game. I took my sister-in-law because my wife really couldn't give two craps about hockey and my SIL had a beautiful bull nose terrier dying of cancer that weekend. (I understand there's always multiple sides to the story but this is just mine). So I took my SIL to the hockey game, we met at our apartment and between her & my wife the three of us downed 3 pizzas from Domino's drinking Coke.

I drove my SIL to the local hockey game (I had free parking) and we met 2 friends of mine. At the hockey game (and the 'whole' hockey game I purchased two beers for each of us, one of which I knocked over with what I'll explain later). It's also likely important to note that my SIL also broke her ankle like 3 days prior to this. Anyway I purchased 4 beers (at an obscene price for each) and had to make two trips because they'd only sell 2 beers per transaction. During that time I also stopped at the pro shop and got some game memorabilia for her & my wife (hoodies & such) and of course I knocked over my 1st beer with that bag of crap I bought spilling half of it out. Since this was before the 1st period (and the fact that the beers were something like $14 a pop) I stuck with my one & a half while giving my SIL the other two I bought (the waters were also $4.50 a pop and I purchased 8 of those for us & the other two friends so do the math there).

So in 3.5 hours or so I had 1.5 beers personally (really not that big of a deal) but remember my SIL has had a broken leg. So we had to get to the game early, drop her off at the handicap location, wait for the stadium to clear, then egress out of the stadium so I've easily got 4 hours into this endeavor (and was happy to do it) and still only 1.5 beers into the night.

After we got her & everyone loaded up in my truck- we went to a local watering hold because they stayed open during game nights and usually ran specials for wings. They had something like a game special of 2 beers & wings and we each got that deal. She opted for the local IPA option (after all why not- she wasn't driving) and I went with the low alcohol/Coors light type of offering (because I was driving).

Well I'm sure you can see where this story is going. I was pulled over shortly after leaving the bar (sober as a they come in my opinion and I'll add the military absolutely drilled this into my head not to fuck around with drinking and driving). Whelp- I made the "mistake" of being friendly and asking the police officer to clarify something (I've posted here already that in my best ear I lost over 30% of my hearing when we hit an IED) and as Stiffler would say- it was "on like donkey kong". I was put into handcuffs and whisked away to the local jail (fortunately my SIL was able to drive my truck with her broken leg) so I didn't have to pay a tow fee but things went on for two years and were nothing short of wild.

You'll either believe me or not- I've got nothing to gain either way but I'll also acknowledge that there's of course two sides to every story as well. That being said. I know I don't have all the terminology correct but during the two year process I had a pre-arrangement/preliminary hearing and probably two others with similar names. And in each and every case there was a group of us and they dangled a 'carrot' called ARD which was some sort of diversionary program the commonwealth has here in PA so they could "get help" and complete the ARD program and have the DUI "sponged(?)" from their record ( think that's the "right" term.

I was the ONLY one to say- fuck that I did nothing wrong I'm fighting this bitch. Each & every time and I was quite literally the only one to go to a bench trial. By this point the narrative of the prosecution read like a Michael Bay film- I was "swerving" almost "ran over a fire hydrant" failed to obey fellow car's "right of way". You'd think I was Ted Kennedy and they had it all on film. EVERY step of the way the prosecution did everything they could to make me feel like the worlds's biggest fuckup. But (I'm sure it's of no surprise to some folks here) but I can be a bit headstrong myself when it comes to my integrity and honor so it became a moral crusade.

Fast forward- I'm at my bench trial and the DA is depicting me as the most despicable scum of the earth and that we're "lucky" I didn't "kill" somebody that night. Here's what about $10K and a lawyer got me- my defense attorney didn't rely on "tricks", "loopholes" or any of that kind of "nonsense". All they did was use the dash cam & body cam video to dispel all the accusations against me & everything in the police report is uncorroborated with the actual footage. I "wasn't" swerving, I yielded to at least two vehicles & perfectly 'obeyed' at least two traffic devices that night on "their" video prior to the stop.

That's all my lawyer did- from no less than 4 camera angles (two body cams & two dash cams) showing that all the "reasons" I was stopped and "arrested" never existed per the video. I was driving perfectly, I wasn't slurring, I wasn't stumbling, I wasn't exhibiting one single "indicator" of being intoxicated other than refusing to stand on one leg (and explaining in clear/unslurred English that I was blown up by an IED and that jacked up my eardrums and I wasn't going to voluntarily stand on one leg because I knew my balance would be "off". That's "all" I did and was corroborated by FOUR different cameras. Captured on 3 of those cameras was the police officers bantering amongst themselves saying "fuck this guy" (direct quote). It went back to the (very green) DA who was expecting this to be a "slam dunk" case because DUI's are all but "give-me's" and they came back with (during what I think is called their "closing arguments") that "yeah" I "might" not have appeared intoxicated in those four cameras but "if" the judge looked really closely they'd see all the "indicators" of me being 'hammered drunk'. Oh- I should also ad that I hand jotted 52 pages (yes 52) on a legal pad of what happened that night.

And here's the outcome of all that- two years of turmoil on me, the SIL dog's died of cancer the next month, just about EVERY 'supposed' infraction I "allegedly" did was abjectly proven as being nothing short of nonsense (did I mention based off of 4 cameras?) which essentially demonstrated that the entire police report/proceedings of that night were but a fabrication. Again- not my opinion- these jokers tried to ruin my life & career because "fuck this guy" (again on camera(s)) it absolutely proved without a shadow of a doubt that not one but TWO police reports were fabricated (and seemingly written as though it was a 'MadLib' if you're old enough to know what those are... essentially here's a script/fill in the blanks).

Again, no "technicalities" or "nuances" the police had no grounds to pull me over, there wasn't a factual statement in their narratives in the police report and it caused me two years and just shy of ten thousand dollars in legal fees. And here's my "justice", I have four cameras proving/substantiating my story (as I'm telling it) was proven to be 'not guilty" but I'm still out thousands of dollars in legal fees, had to pay 'court costs' of $500 because I had a foglight out, and it's looking like I'm STILL going to need to spend an extra thousand in legal fees to get this bullcrap off of my record.

Again- this is the "BEST CASE SCENARIO". Nobody "wins" DUI's because the cards are stacked against them if the police read the right words. I "won" because the two officers were caught red handed as lying bastards and when the judge looked at the ADA, as if saying in their gaze 'wtf are we doing here' all they could say is "well it's not egregious but if you look 'super close' you'll see he's showing signs of intoxication". They knew it was bullshit, the judge knew it was bullshit, my lawyer knew it was bullshit and the case was thrown out.

BUT I'm still out almost $10K in legal fees that I can't recoup because the police have something called "qualified immunity" so as egregious as this case was I can't even sue them to recover my legal expenses. Not only that- but these same jokers are playing the same games and most folks are just going "roll over" and take the ARD and not "fight" the "man". like I did.

My fellow Hide members- do with this story as you will. Call me a liar if you want (I've been called a lot of things here but a liar surprisingly is not one of them) or take the story for what it is- just an illustration of what "justice" looks like.

This is the part I'll likely get myself in trouble here but I'm going to say it anyway. My background is military and many of my battle buddies ended up as LEO's. I'm talking the absolute "salt of the earth" type of people and even with my above experience I cannot think of better people as a whole or as LEO's. I really do mean that statement. If you EVER have to have a "run-in" with a police officer, I sincerely hope that you have it with someone like one of my close friends I'm talking about. These are NOT the kind of guys interested in meeting "quotas" or jamming anyone up- they just had enough of playing soldier/marine and doing the "combat" thing wanted to shift their focus to helping their fellow Americans directly.

That said- god help you if you run into one of their "Farva's" because the 'system' will acknowledge they're in the wrong but still protect them after they took a Dremel to your corn hole and wallet.

Humbly- this ain't right and it sure as shit isn't "justice". Believe me/my story or don't- I don't give a possum's ass either way. I know that I'm speaking sincerely and despite all the names I've been called here in the Pit- I still don't think I've been called a liar.

-LD

Hear me out now- we've all heard about "Big Tobacco", have we ever considered the concept of "Big Ammo"?

This is going to make me sound like I'm off my proverbial rocker and hitting the "devil's weed" and I assure you I have not been doing any of that noise (although maybe I should have been).

I'll post it here first since I usually haunt SH more than other forums but here I go...

I'm sure many of us are familiar with the term "big tobacco" and are old enough to remember when that term came into existence. For those younger- essentially there was a point a couple of decades ago when it was financially lucrative to sue Tobacco companies for health "ailments" (and guess what- the courts agreed with the plaintiffs). So eventually the major Tobacco companies figured out that after decades of competing against each other- when it came to this one particular situation it might be better for them to pool their money together to combat these legal charges.

I'm not arguing that they were right or wrong either, just that they all figured out that they had a common interest in pooling there (otherwise insane) amounts of money together and fighting the lawsuits collectively. I'm sure I'll miss a few but Philip Morris (Marlboro), RJ Reynods (Camel), and plenty others pulled their resources together to fight, not only for their individual companies but for their industry (and arguably that was a successful business decision that I don't seem to recall ever being discussed much).

So with that said- let's "fast forward to today" and change the party of discussion from tobacco companies producing cigarettes to ammunition companies producing (specifically handgun) ammunition. I'm not arguing that ammunition manufacturers are creating a product that gives their customers base cancer through scientific evaluation, what I'm questioning is whether they figured out (either directly or indirectly) that they'd all be better served focusing on one pistol caliber as the (end all be all) rather than competing against each other on a half dozen+ calibers.

Think about it- You're ammunition company 'A' & I'm ammunition company 'B'. We're both competing in the same pistol caliber market, we're both fighting the same legal battles for making "cop killer" or "extra deadly" self defense bullets. We're also manufacturing competing products in 25 ACP, 32 ACP, 380 ACP, 9x19mm, 40 S&W, 357 SIG, 45 GAP, 45 ACP, 50 AE, etc etc. and doing so for decades- the 9mm/40 S&W/357 SIG/45 ACP dominates the market preferences and concerns AND you find a way to bridge the proverbial chasm between your two largest market segments- 9mm & 45 ACP and you now have a 9x19 that can meet the current performance standards of the best 45 ACP (never mind that nobody cared to invest in developing the 45 ACP further than it was capable of 20-40 years ago because, well frankly there wouldn't be a financial incentive in that approach).

Well now you potentially have a "big ammo" situation where they frankly realize they're all being attacked by the same lawsuits and it's better business for them to "circle their wagons" and focus on less calibers (I'm sure that the 9mm being amongst the cheapest for them to produce is just a happy coinicedence) and then free their capital up that was previously spent developing other calibers towards their legal defense/company sustainment monetary requirements.

I know I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed but I don't know if I've ever seen this particular angle discussed before so figured I'd share it/ at least the concept of it.

OORAH! LA ON FIRE...TAKEDOWNS LIGHT UP.

Newsom calls deployment of Marines "illegal" and Mayor Bass calls the handling of tonight's riot an "experiment" and both of these pathetic losers are incapable of understanding the simple fact that WE THE FUCKING PEOPLE are tired of the lawlessness from the LEFT and ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS in California and everywhere else in the nation! GET USED TO THE NEW NORM ASSHOLES! Tonight's TRIUMPH of ICE, the LAPD, Reservists and Marines is the new norm. Law & Order!!! You Leftists keep chanting that "nobody is above the law" and that's tonight's lesson. Fucking LEARN IT! This is exactly what we Americans voted for! Pull your heads out of your libtard asses. Adults are running things now...not you stupid Socialistic children!

The world lost a literary giant today.... RIP Frederick Forsyth

Not only arguably the creator of the techno-thriller Genre, but the absolute master of it for almost 60 years.

My first thirller was "The Odessa File" which I read when I was about 12. And have been hooked on books by Forsythe, Higgins, Clancy, Larry Bond and others for my whole life. My night table is always stacked.

From his earliest short stories to The Day of the Jackal and The Dogs of War... to his last epic novel... noone did it like Frederick Forsyth.

RIP, sir. The literary world is a poorer place today.

Sirhr

PS. Michael Crichton could also have claimed the title when it comes to creating the techno-thriller. But Forsythe was the master when it came to the espionage/military side of it.

SOLD Kuiu Pro XL Bino Harness XL w/ Range Finder & Phone Pouches

I’m selling a gently used Kuiu Pro XL Bino Harness in Verde.
This is the old Pro version. It is not the new Pro G3.

Purchase includes everything pictured- main harness, height adjustment pads, cell phone pouch and rangefinder pouch.
I purchased this new a year ago and it has seen limited use on 2 hunts. I paid over $200 for it new with everything.
It is in good condition as pictured.
I am not looking to sell pieces separately, it is as package offer only.
I am including the QD tether straps that attach to the bino and harness, but they aren’t in my pictures.
There is only very slight wear on the back strap that I tried to capture in photos.
The slight wear is cosmetic only and does not affect function.
I am only selling because I don't use it and I want to fund other interests.

SOLD
First to PM and post will own it.
PayPal F&F or Venmo only.
