Northeast Hunting

Any Northest Hunters on here?

Would like to plan my first hunting trip this fall. Considering Vermont, upstate NY, PA as a few options. Since it's my first time out, would really like to try and get out on a guided hunt, but my own online research right now is really all over the place in regard to pricing, reviews, etc.

Just looking for some feedback if any of yall have some good experiences in any of the surrounding states here.

Will do a deer hunt this fall, and then a turkey hunt next spring as I missed that for this year at this point with being prepared. Also considering a winter coyote hunt a bit more west come January/February. Would like to try a few different things over the course of the fall and into next year.

I checked the internet

So yesterday evening I walked out in my front yard to find a red fox trying to get the neighbors cat. I tried to chase it off but it's not really scared of people it would stay about 50ft away was all.

So I ran next door to warn her. She says they have been here since last year, but she looked it up online and it said they wouldn't mess with domestic animals.

I told her. I am pretty sure they will eat cats based on all the stray cats disappearing over the last year and half or so.

I knew there were some foxes around because they left a chicken carcass in my yard last summer. I also found some tracks in the snow in my drive way this winter. It turns out they have den at an abandoned house less than a block away. And in all liklyhood they ate my cat that I liked and payed to neuter.

So is there any better place to go than online to get biased horseshit information.

THOUSANDS of Machine Guns DESTROYED

I hate to start the day off with depressing news but for anyone that has FA weapons that you want to pass on here is some information. Most of you probably already know this but the video might benefit friends or relatives that might need this information.

I have my suppressors ready to pass on with the Form 5s mentioned in the video.

Target Post Reinforcement?

I have a number of AR500 steel plates hanging up behind my house. They have been there for years and years with the same original T-post. A few months ago some relatives came over to shoot which was totally fine. After they were done, a few days later I noticed that they shot through and blew the main support out of some of the posts.

I was considering re-arranging everything anyway, so I pulled up each post and re-mounted everything with different mounting attachment methods. Did that and everything looked great. Then the same two came over to shoot again and low and behold they shot up the brand new T-posts AGAIN. In probably ten years I never shot the posts holding up my targets. They can't hit anything AR500 worth a crap, but they certainly can hit the T-posts from various distances.

The net result is, I am going to have to pull up several posts (again) and replace them, which leads to my asking the brain trust here to give me some ideas about how to protect the T-posts. It's not that posts are expensive, but rather, it's a pain in the ass to go pull them up out of the ground and re-mount my targets all the time.

I have seen a number of companies that sell AR500 T-post protectors. The problem is they are expensive. In some cases from the prices I see it would cost several hundred bucks to protect a few fence posts, (which I might do anyway under the premise of 'buy once cry once') but I am not totally sold yet. The other problem is that the targets are at various heights so initially I might have to change some of that up if I go that route. It will also limit me in the future should I decide to switch things up again because I don't have the stuff to cut AR500 to custom lengths. There are a few other downsides as well such as (supposedly) I would need to use their mounting solutions as well, which is even more $$$.

One idea that popped into my head is to get some treated 4x4 lumber and cut it to the length I like with a chainsaw and just bolt it on the post below the target. I have zero illusions that a 4x4 would stop any kind of rifle bullet, but maybe it could slow things down enough to prevent damage to the post behind it. Typically no one is shooting any larger calibers anymore so generally speaking we are talking about 5.56 or 300BLK (AR cartridges) and pistol rounds.

If anyone has any ideas to accomplish my goal please let me know by posting it up below. After I get a few ideas and weigh my options I will purchase what I need.

SOLD Schmidt Bender PMII 5-25x56 LP P4FL 677-911-972-90-68

Was going to put this on a new Viking Armament PRC they are building me, but I have fallen in love with the polar lineup of scopes so I want to go that route instead. Up for sale is a Schmidt PMII 5-25x56 P4FL reticle. Scope shows a little wear with some light "freckling" on the power knob, and a mark or two on the turrets. These do not affect function at all, and are shown in the pictures that I took. Also there are some super light and hard to see little markings on the objective lens, you can't get a photo of them. They appear to just be in he coating, and you can't see them when you are using the scope. But to be fulling honest I wanted to put that out there. This is priced to move at $1800 shipped to your door. For a PMII in this condition I think it is a steal.

Go to factory/reman ammo?

Welp I’ve given the reloading thing a try over the last year or so but my ES of 40-50 is just not worth all the extra effort of reloading when I can shoot factory, sell the brass and come out close to the same.

Before I went and bought a bunch of Hornady March ammo, any others I should consider? Thinking alone the lines of LAX Ammo reloads, Freedom Muntions, etc

Tobacco plants

Does anyone have suggestions for a large variety of tobacco to grow? Most varities i see say they get 5-6'. My mom had a tobacco from FFA kids at her school a few years back and the thing grew 8-10' tall. Really all I want is a big plant with big flowers. I don't smoke or chew so the quality of the tobacco is entirely unimportant.

Lawmakers in San Francisco Want to Allow Residents to Sue Grocery Stores for Closing

Stores throughout greater San Francisco have been closing for months. Major retailers have ditched the city, as well as pharmacies and grocery stores. All mainly due to crime and theft.

Now lawmakers in the city want to allow residents to sue grocery stores for closing.

This is completely backwards. The city could stop all of the theft tomorrow if they wanted to by simply enforcing the law. Then the stores wouldn’t close in the first place. But that would entail admitting that the left’s policies are wrong and don’t work, so they’re going after the stores.

The New York Post reports:
San Francisco lawmakers want to let city residents sue grocery stores that close
A pair of progressive San Francisco lawmakers are pushing a bill that would allow residents in the crime-ravaged city to sue grocery stores that close up shop if they don’t give six months’ notice.
The proposal by San Francisco Board of Supervisors members Dean Preston and Aaron Peskin would require business to either find a successor grocer or work out a plan with residents in the neighborhood to ensure the availability of supermarket options.
The Grocery Protection Act – which is based on a proposal the board approved in 1984 that was vetoed by then-San Francisco Mayor Dianne Feinstein — comes amid a rash of retail theft fueled by the city’s drug and homelessness crisis that has led to several business closures.
Whole Foods closed its Market Street location last year after there were 568 emergency calls lodged in a 13-month period due to incidents such as vagrants throwing food, yelling, fighting and attempting to defecate on the floor, according to the New York Times. At least 14 arrests were made at the location.

This video shows some of the major retailers who have left the city in recent months. It’s amazing that the city allowed this to happen.

The city is in a doom loop and things will get much worse before they get better.

HILARIOUS!
NOW EVERY RETAILER WHO IS THINKING OF LEAVING OR CLOSING WILL BAIL BEFORE THIS BECOMES LAW SO THEY DON'T GET TRAPPED BY THIS INSANITY!

Med-student & Psychopath murders own mother for no reason

By all reports, she was a great mother with three adult children. A school teacher who kept in regular contact with her kids. Her youngest, a fourth year med student who by all accounts was brilliant, was visiting for the weekend. No known drug, alcohol, mental, or criminal issues. No history of police calls for any of them. NOTHING at all. When asked by police why he stabbed his own mother as she answered the door and was happy to see him- he said he'd been wanting to kill her for a long time and just decided during the drive to do it. When asked, he said he loved her, but that she was sometimes annoying. That poor woman never saw it coming because there was absolutely no reason to ever suspect he'd felt that way about his mother.

500 yard semi auto for coyote??

Twice in the last three days I had shots off my back deck at coyotes. The closest about 280 yards the other was about 450. Both dogs were walking away when I missed the first shot. Then they went to a full sprint. The first dog at 450 I was using a 223 bolt action and only got off a second shot that fell about a foot behind him. The second dog I used a 223 AR . I dumped 10 or 11 rounds at him as he ran out to woods 550ish yards away.

I'm thinking that 223 isn't the best caliber for this scenario. I'm also thinking a long barreled AR10 might be in order for quicker follow-up shots. What caliber choices should I look?

Thanks
Ron
