Using Tape on the back of a loaded round to check or set headspace. . . .

When proper Headspace gauges are not available, this is a pretty widely used method of spitballing a sorta-close headspace. It has been used for a long time and is considered a rough cheat code to make sure the HS is in the right zip code.

My concern recently is that we have been seeing ammo quality (consistency specifically ) being all over the place. Seemingly in the last 20yrs it has gotten worse instead of better. Maybe because of 2 or 3 back to back ME wars and the producers not taking time to PM their machines and double check QC processes as much. (?)

Anyway . . . . . . . my point is that I have a literal pile of factory ammo that won't go into correctly headspaced factory chambers.

The worst offender is Hornady but I have a few Federal, Win and even Sig.
These rounds look perfect visually but are too long on the shoulder datum -> headstamp dimension. We have also seen a few that are too short on the opposite of that dimensional spectrum to the point they are inducing ignition problems.

I don't think using such a round with tape on the rear to "set" or check headspace would be "dangerous" but if the sample cartridge was out of spec, it could cause excessive brass stretch.
It could even cause the phone to ring at shops like Wade's to bitch about an out of spec chamber that is actually in spec.

@spife7980 I'm not arguing or trying to bust your chops. Just sharing my personal thoughts based on personal concerns and experience, neither of which proves I'm right. So this post is simply meant as food for thought and a "rumble strip" warning to proceed cautiously for the novices.

Firearms Oracle Arms 2311 Pro Package - like new

Well I bought this to be my end all pistol for a while but then just today I finally found a deal on a staccato XC that I couldn’t say no to. This pistol is a month old and I am the original owner. There is 1 round fired through it and that’s it. There’s some small wear by the mag well as that’s how it came from factory for some reason. Didn’t bother me enough to send it back.

- Comes with the factory carry bag with 4 magazines (21 round mags so know if you have state restrictions)
- high desert black
- surefire ultra 300
- leupold delta point pro

$2,800 shipped for the entire package. No trades as this is going towards the XC.

Accessories Manners Certs

So I've been stacking manners certs all summer, ordered my stock this spring went to pay for it and saw the fine print on the gift cards. "one per stock" well crap.

I have 2 that are $250 each I'll sell for $100 each. Exp dates are 1 month apart on these but first buyer gets choice. You just have to have your stock on order by mid 2026 *one sold to Chgunz* ***both sold***

I have one that is a $500 that I may keep or trade for another cert. What I don't know. Maybe a foundation or? I have vortex and leofoto certs already. Or if someone really wants it $400

PayPal F&f or venmo, I'll send a photo of the back of the gift card after payment.

Gov. Hochul Claims Concealed Carry Permit Allowed Manhattan Shooter to Have AR-15

CLAIM: During a gun control rant on CNN’s Inside Politics, Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) noted the alleged Manhattan shooter had a concealed carry permit and claimed the permit allowed him to have an AR-15.
VERDICT: False. Having a concealed carry permit centers on the carrying of handguns for self-defense, not rifles.
Moreover, having a concealed carry permit does not allow a visitor to ignore the laws of a state to which they travel. The alleged Manhattan shooter had driven across the country to New York, and in New York there is a prohibition against guns which Democrats refer to as “assault weapons.”
To take it even further, even if having a concealed carry permit pertained to rifles–which it does not–New York does not recognize the concealed carry permit from any of the other 49 states, according to USCCA.
Additionally, as news of Monday’s shooting broke on Breitbart News, we noted that Mike Bloomberg-affiliated Everytown for Gun Safety ranks New York as No. 4 in the country for stringent gun control, in part because the state bans “assault weapons.” Nevertheless, the alleged attacker used an AR-platform rifle in Manhattan, the very kind of rifle that Democrats refer to “assault weapons.”
Although New York’s “assault weapons” ban failed to prevent the Manhattan attack, Hochul made clear she believes such a ban on a national level would equate to being “tough on crime.”
Similar claims were made by Democrats during the Clinton administration.
On September 13, 1994, the New York Times ran a column explaining that the very term “assault weapon” was one that “Democrats created” in the 1990s in order to ban “a politically defined category of guns.” The NYT noted there was “a spike in gun crime,” so 1990s Democrats found something they could ban in order to allow themselves to appear to be fighting crime.
Same song, different verse.

More fun with 308 Win

I have been doing more testing and toying with 308.

I have been using Alpha small rifle primer brass and CCI 450 small rifle magnum primers.

Rifleis a Zermatt Origin with 20" PVA M24 profile 1:10 twist.

MDT ACC Chassis.

My goal was 3000ft lbs of energy at the muzzle. This was due to a conversation I had with a buddy who just came back from a Safari. The company had a 3000ft lbs, at the muzzle, requirement for any rifle used for plains game. He took a 300wsm.

Powders were Varget and Power Pro 2000mr.

These loads are above book max but showed no pressure signs. I annealed every other firing. I worked the book pressure loads up using annealed starline srp brass.

I forgot to get pictures of the varget loads.

#1- Averaged 2605fps and .30" 5 shot group (No pressure Signs)

#2- Averaged 2614fps and .65" 5 shot group (No Pressure Signs)

#3- Averaged 2627fps and .88" 5 shot group (Very faint ejector mark)

#4- Averaged 2635fps and .55" 5 shot group (Again faint ejector mark, easy bolt lift)

#5- Averaged 2644fps and .23" 5 shot group (Ejector mark and at the very top of the bolt lift it was mildly sticky at the very top)

Power Pro 2000mr was a little lacking in the velocity dept.

My max load of 46.6 grains topped out at 2635 but should have been faster. My thought is that I am not getting complete powder burn. I found some partially burnt kernals in the barrel
.
The 46 grain load was absurdly accurate and had an average velocity of 2615.

My 1moa sticker fell off the hole it was covering so I just shot at the hole.

AR Novice handguard question

Looking to replace the handguard in the image and not sure what I need. Will a new handguard come with everything I need to install/mount? Pretty sure I have all the tools needed I just don't understand how the handguard mounts to the upper based on what is in the image. I'm also having trouble removing the gas block., I've loosened the allen screws on the bottom but it only slides about a 1/4". Is there a specific handguard where the Pic rail on the upper mates with the pic rail on the handguard?

Accessories WTS used barrels chambered for Impact 737R (lots of them)

If you were wanting to test a caliber, have a practice barrel, fire form brass or have a hunting rifle for you/the kids-- I have tons of barrels (roughly 50) of varying calibers. All have muzzle threads.
6.5 Creed (26"), 6GT, 6BRA (28"), 6 Dasher (28"), 25x47 (26"). Most of these are cerakoted black. Most are Bartlein, but some of the newer ones are CRB. No other barrel brands. The countours are a mix of m24, mtu, and CRB comp. All the threads are perfect and all are chambered by Stuteville precision for an Impact.

These were my comp barrels (most/all of those will have 1 &/or 2 day match wins on them). There are a couple outliers that will have close to over 3k rounds on them. There will also be a couple that have less than 100 rounds on them. I would be lying if I said I kept notes on all of them and as such I won't be able to tell you which ones have how many. I'm not a magician with a borescope so while I'm sure someone could tell which is which I am not going to take the time to scrub each one to bare metal to determine the amount of fire cracking etc to estimate a round count. I don't run anything hot (creedmoors in the low 2600s, bras at 2800 etc).

None of these were taken off because accuracy degraded-- at a certain point it is simply safer to put on a new barrel than risk it at a match. Some of these (the really low round count ones) were projects or place holders. They weren't taken off because of a lack of accuracy, but a lack of time.

Anyway, if you're interested shoot me a message and I can get you pics of what you're interested in. To make things simple-- $200/ea shipped to the lower 48. Again, I want to be clear that these are all USED barrels with varying round counts.

Have a good day!
