Send action for a Pre-fit

Hi guys - I'm about to send a Bartlein M24, .264, 5R, 7.5 twist blank to a smith to be spun for a CDG action which is, of course, pre-fit qualified. This is my first pre-fit barrel.

I asked the smith if he would "prefer" having the action and if that would result in a better product and didn't get a particularly strong reaction.

The smith agreed that there two related issues, one small and one possibly larger.

1. Timing the barrel so engraving shows. QUESTION: are pre-fit dwgs/specs sufficient to result in timed threads so that the engraving will show even if the action is not sent with the blank?

2. Timing the barrel for any curvature (banana) in the bore. Yes, @Frank Green and company make absolute top of the line barrels...but, it is possible that they have a bit of curvature and would benefit from being times so that curve is aligned the vertical axis, right? QUESTION: Send the action with the barrel for this possibility or not?

Right now I'm leaning on just sending the blank with a note that if the smith finds much in the way of a banana to let me know and I'll send the action. If not, then no worries about where the engraving ends up also.

And yes, I have action wrench, torque wrench, barrel vise, go/n0 go gauges, and friends more expert than myself if needed.

@Frank Green - you have been exceedingly kind to me in our past conversations so may I impose once again. What would you do?

And yes, this is not an earth shattering issue but its raining cats and dogs out and I'm bored! haha

Cheers

Rifle Scopes Seven Scopes with Issues or Something Else

Seems I have a scope issue times seven scopes. It also seems like this is a legit issue. So, with that said I have a question for you dudes. Has anyone else seen an impact shift when dropping the rifle on a bag and taking a shot?

What started all this was trying to get my build and break times down. I’d shoot five shots from five different positions for time trying to keep them all in the #1 diamond on the Kraft Target. When I went from high kneeling to standing I dropped the rifle on the bag from about 12” in a hatchet type movement pushing to make up time. Hand on grip, forearm approximately 12” above the bag and let the rifle drop angling down to the bag. I noticed the shot went low when I called it center diamond. I shot again to confirm and it was center. I thought that was weird so I repeated the process and first shot was low, second shot was center. My mind went into overtime knowing there was an issue, but what was causing it? My first thought was chassis. Swapped around with three chassis to no resolve. Ok, it’s a barrel issue, again three barrels with no resolve. So I texted a dude that likes to test stuff. He said nope never tested that or heard of it but I’ll look into it. Only one thing left to do swap scopes and see what’s up. The results are below and they speak for themselves. What say you?

Here is the process I used to confirm the results checking different scopes.

- All shots were from standing position.
- Held grip, the rifle is 12” above bag, release forearm and rifle falls onto bag.
- Fire first shot.
- Pan over to next target and fire second shot.
- Pick up rifle and repeat for a total of 5 shots per target/10 rounds total.

Here is the list of scopes tested:
- Gen 2 Razor 4.5-27
- Zero Compromise 4-20
- Nightforce NXS 5.5-22
- Gen 3 Razor 6-36
- Leupold MK4 Fixed 16x
- Gen 2 Razor 3-18
- Viper PST 5-25

Chassis that were tried early on to eliminate that thought:
- AIATX
- XLR Envy Pro
- Early XLR Envy

Barrels Tested to remove that thought:
- 26” Proof 6mm
- 26” Bartlien
- 26” Proof 6.5mm

The last thing I tried was dropping the rifle onto the bag dialing the scope up and down to remove any lash then return to zero and fire. It fixed nothing.

Will work for ammo….

Update to add Seekins SP10 results 5-26-24

@Lowlight feel free to move if this needs to be elsewhere.

Long Range Setup

I’m looking at buying a new gun for mostly long range use 400yds plus and I’d like some info before I buy. My budget is about $2,200 at the most for the rifle itself. I’m looking at an AR-10 or the Christensen Arms MPR.

1. Is it possible to build a 1MOA AR-10 at this price point? Preferably in .308.

2. If not, would 300 PRC or 7 PRC be more suitable for long range (out to about 1000 yds)? (I would want a long action if I went with the MPR).

3. What would the barrel life be for each of these be?

Hundreds of UCLA Students Convert to Islam, Pray to Allah

Everyday the news gets worse!

Hundreds of University of California of Los Angeles (UCLA) students converted to Islam and participated in a massive group prayer to Allah on Wednesday night.

Just before police officers moved in and dismantled defiant pro-terrorism protest encampments at UCLA, students said Muslim prayers as the sun set over the campus.

The pro-terrorism students chanted "Allahu akbar" during the prayer and chanted "Allah is the greatest" of all gods.

Wasn't the revolutionary war fought over taxes?

Welcome to America, where your gov will take from you as they see fit. Then spend it on most everything you do not agree with?

Why wouldn't IQ's fall based upon the leadership over the last 60+ years?

I know ever time I have to endure leftest anything, I feel like I need a shower to flush their B/S, outside. Then I need to rethink how true America was, during my growing up & learning years.

Thompson Center / TC Arms returning

Gregg Ritz from Huntmasters TV / Wild Communications is leading a "group" that has acquired TC Arms from Smith and Wesson. Prior to the 06 purchase by S&W they had a great smoke stick (My TC Omega is a tack driver for a smoke pole). Ritz was a former CEO of TC which makes me wonder if he left the company prior to the 06 sale. Website states new product line coming 2025. I wouldn't be mad if the Contender made a return.

Casual Observations

An average woman will slam, to the complete extent of her strength, a door, 10-15 times before looking and seeing that there is an item blocking the door from closing.
Then...
She will slam it twice more before bending down to remove said offensive item then find that the door does indeed close easily.

No shit, just witnessed it.

A precision bolt gun from Taurus? the Taurus Expedition

TAURUS???

Thats what I thought for sure when I saw the Expedition come out. I swore off Taurus long ago, but one of their guns broke into my safe, and created an infection a few years ago. That was the TX22, I've since bought 3 more. So I was willing to give them a possible look at, and then this Expedition showed up. Remington 700 compatible, AI magazines, 3-lug 60 degree bolt, MLOK stock, threaded 308 barrel, butt-hook, and so on. I'm not gonna lie fellas, I was not expecting to like this. But if it shoots well, its gonna stay.

Gunsmithing Gunsmith said this about installing a Tikka prefit

Ok, bought a m24 Mueller 204 barrel from bugholes/Southern Precision and had them thread it for my Tikka and also chamber it. I didn’t have them install it on my rifle because they said it would take some absurd amount of time due to their backlog.

The barrel just came in the mail. Brought the barreled action to a gunsmith in town and asked for him to remove the factory barrel and install the bugholes barrel.

Note that I’ve never had anybody install a barrel, nor ever installed a barrel myself. Currently, due to remodeling my garage is full and I have no workbench or even a place to mount a barrel vice etc to change my own barrels.

He said:
  1. Removing factory barrel: “I use lead in my barrel vice to clamp around the barrel. But with Tikka barrels being on so tight, the barrel just spins in the lead. Therefore I can’t use the lead so you might have some scratches on the barrel.”
  2. On new barrel install: “Just so you know, I always have to touch up the chamber when I install a barrel (head spacing). And please bring in the stock because I want to test fire to make sure everything is safe.”
Should I be using this guy?

SOLD Schmidt Bender SOCOM PSR PM II

For sale is a lightly used S&B Precision Sniper Program (SOCOM) overrun optic. This was number 290 of 300 where S&B covered the NSN marking with the “badge” they placed on the front objective. The scope is a S&B 5-25x56 PM II with a Tremor 2 reticle, .1MRAD, CCW, DT/ST, limited edition in Pantone that was selected by SOCOM for one of their military contracts. I mounted the scope in a Spuhr so there are feint markings, but everything else is like new. Comes with original box and paperwork, and Tenebraex caps (this one did not come with the bikini caps many others included). Sell for $3150 shipped and insured.

ETA - I've had numerous PMs on whether the NSN is intact under the badge. I don't know, I never took the badge off.
