Calling the carnivores among us

I've been chatting with my uncle over Christmas, who has been on a carnivore diet since February, with good results (lost a decent chunk of weight, lot less issues with inflammation etc.)

I have played with the idea of giving it a try myself, and so have looked a bit round the web, with mixed results. Lot of "no this is terrible because muh-veggies" but also a fair amount of actual useful info.

So, who here has given it a try, and what were/are your experiences?

Short action hunting caliber ?

I have a bighorn orgin sa that I am going to get another barrel for… it’s sitting in a manners pro hunter, I have been trying to figure out what to pick, I hunt deer for the most part and the furthest shot in my area is 600 yds but I shoot steel further, 1200 sometimes. I would like to be able to take elk out to 500 ish but I would also like to be able to find decent factory ammo, let me hear what you recommend!

Am I being an idiot here?

I’m looking at a couple different chassis options. All based on the Rem 700.

Came across a couple I thought were neat - there’s this Akila brand I found that seems pretty sweet and then found a much cheaper option. The Sharps Bros Heatseeker which goes for only $430.

I’m building on a coup de grace action which I know is optimized for AW mags, but wasn’t sure if that chassis would take AW.

So I asked, I wrote them a quick email asking if the chassis would take AW mags and the owner of the company wrote me back and all he said was “AW?”…. Is it wrong of me to assume that he ought to have know what I meant?

I gave him an explanation I found online that differs the two mags out and all he told me was that his chassis is meant to work on AICS magazines… duh… but I don’t think I want to go with that chassis anymore since I was only given a one word response.

AW (meaning arctic warfare) is the same dimension and the mag catch is in the same spot as an AICS mag?

Cheers and merry Christmas.

Cajun boys, have a seat. I’ve got questions

I stumbled across some Frenchy’s Creole Rice Dressing.

Being an uneducated, Yankee from North of the Mason Dixon line, I’ve got questions.

This company also makes Boudin, which I really like.

The ingredients of the Boudin and the Dressing are the same.

Can I cook the dressing, put it on a Saltine and eat with tobasco the same way?

Or should I do something different?

No, as a matter of fact, reloading does not save you money

But does it sure make it more enjoyable to shoot!

started down this rabbit hole in August of 2022. The height of overpriced components. Didn’t let that stop me. In fact, this very forum is what finally pushed me over the edge. I was sick and tired of 1”+ groups as a best with factory ammo, for the most part of course. Jumped in with both feet. Sold a Scar17 I had that I never shot in order to fund the start of it. It isn’t even a drop in the bucket now of what I’ve spent. I currently have more In inventory than just about all the LGS’s around me. All I want to do now is shoot tiny groups and bang steel at the local range. I went from shooting once a month to usually twice a week. I own cartridges you can’t get factory loadings for. Cool ass rifles and cheap ass rifles. The great thing is, thru reloading, they mostly shoot the same.

So let this be a lesson for those that don’t reload, it is expensive and you probably won’t save any money. But it sure is a lot more fun when you can hit things you never thought possible and shoot groups smaller than you’ve ever seen. As we wind down to the end of the year, I was out cleaning up all my empties so far. This does not include all the stuff currently sitting on the shelf that has already been opened. This is just the stuff I have completely emptied in about 15 months. It’s been crazy. And I wouldn’t ever go back to what it was like prior to getting bit by the bug.

Thank you to the forum for all the tips and tricks. I could never have done it without the reloading forum here. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Range Hard Cases? Condition 1, Apache, or just Pelican?

Need to update and organize my garage sale of range gear from various small cases, a backpack, etc. No plans on flying with it, just range and back. Open to a soft case, though a hard one with wheels seems like the way to go. I've got the basic Costco black and yellow tubs with no wheels and they're nice, but I've broken a number of the lids before so need something decently sturdy.

I know something like the Pelican 1650 would probably work (though I might want the next size up.) Before I invest Pelican level money, what are people thoughts on the more affordable options out there? For example, the Harbor Freight Apache 5800 is less than half the price. I've also seen ads for these Condition 1 cases which seem interesting (but then again, possibly just Facebook/online ad spamming.) Or, any other brands, options? Goal would be mags, range supplies, ammo, belt, PC if I'm feeling LARP-y, eyes/ears, admin, etc.

I've got a Pelican 1750 for one rifle and it's bombproof. I got one of the smaller Pelican Vaults for handguns and it's decent, but I should have gotten something larger. So a small concern is also buying too small again. Would rather have a little extra space than not.
