Where we get our word ‘magazine’ from

Did you know that a magazine was a reinforced storehouse building designed to hold gunpowder?

A magazine is an item or place within which ammunition or other explosive material is stored. The word is taken originally from the Arabic word makhāzin(مخازن), meaning "storehouses.”

IMG_9561.jpeg

These storehouses were rather dangerous. On the rare occasion they would explode, leveling parts of a city and killing many, most notably in Delft, Holland.

The Delft Explosion, also known in history as the Delft Thunderclap, occurred on 12 October 1654 when a gunpowder store exploded, destroying much of the city. Over a hundred people were killed and thousands were injured.
Today, the explosion is primarily remembered for killing Rembrandt's most promising pupil, Carel Fabritius, and destroying almost all of his works.

Delft artist Egbert van der Poel painted several pictures of Delft showing the devastation.

Over 200 magazines and powder houses were built in New England, and about 50 remain.

We have a famous 300-year-old magazine still standing in Williamsburg, Virginia.

When black powder was superseded by smokeless powder, magazines became more like bunkers rather than storehouses and are used to hold cartridge ammunition and explosives.

The term has grown to mean any reinforced structure or container meant to safely house ammunition or explosives. Many companies offer magazines as small as a floor safe or as large as a mobile home.

Accessories Free: MS V3 to the poors in Phoenix/AZ

This is a MS-V3 with Wiser mount that has served me well for years. I have the original box & accessories (never used & most likely dusty) that I’ll have to dig up. Has a few battle scars, but still works great.

I’ve been fortunate throughout my life/career to acquire more shooting related shit, than Carter has pills..(and yes, I picked up a new Garmin)

Must be able to pick up at Rio Salado (I live down the street) or Cowtown (shoot matches there twice a month), because I’m not shipping shit.

To qualify, you must post your sob story here…(for entertainment purposes)

Winner will be chosen by me, with juniors given high priority and likes on your posts a close 2nd.

Since I probably know a lot of the competitive shooters in the state, you swinging dicks (yes, I’m ex Navy) qualify also. But if I see this in the PX in the near future, you’ll be treated like the last elephant on earth by a mother with a house full of starving kids..

Zeiss S3 6 36 @$1874 or T6xi 5 30 @$1945 ?

these are new prices, BUT the S3 is MOA- my pref is Mils, but I can make either work.
I've read a ton of threads ie:https://www.snipershide.com/shootin...3-6-36-vs-steiner-t6xi-5-30-opinions.7152089/, but most reference the S3 as being more expensive than the Steiner.
I'd like decent glass, I don't do much low light shooting, so would trade some glass clarity off against overall ease of use, turret quality etc. It'll be going on a 308 bolt shooting out to 600 and I'd like to see holes if feasible.

Thoughts ?

Before anyone says save up and extra $XXX and buy Y, this is me having saved up already....:(

Gunsmithing Running Automotive Grease in Firearms

All gun oil is snake oil. Hoppes, CLP, Frog Lube, forget about it. All of these companies think you are a dumb, smooth brained, mouth breathing simpleton that can be convinced to spend $30 on 3oz of the same shit sold at Autozone by the gallon for $5 if they just put another dollar into their marketing department.

I have zero respect for people that work in the gun industry. 2% is machining, and 98% is marketing department.

Be a man. Machine your firearms in your garage with CAD/ DXF files & CNC machines, and press ammunition in your free time. Don’t have free time? Have your children do it.

With that being said, Dad and I have been running cans of grease from the automotive store in our guns since I was knee-high to a tadpole. I have not encountered any grease that damages or inhibits the function of a firearm, yet.

The new Garmin xero?

Yea I get this is a puff piece my the cream of the sporting press but in theory it sounds promising. I’ve always been pleased with Garmin products.
It’s brand new so I don’t suspect many have used it yet but anyone else read /watched any reviews.
Price seems in line IF it delivers what’s promised.

Gas guns and EldM problems?

I've got a ar10 6.5 cm we have been shooting with American gunner 140 with no issues for years now.
I am now reloading 140gr. EldM with H4350 in annealed once fired Hornady brass with about .003 neck tension loaded to 2.800. Its been totally reliable but I suddenly noticed occasional wild flyers. Sometimes a round would impact 6-10 inches off to the side. Otherwise the groups are all sub moa.....at 100 yards.

Everything has been torqued and rechecked. Anyone have any guess on why occasional fliers occur? It doesn't seem to happen with the American gunner. I have no baffle strikes thru the surefire can so they are coming out straight. It's a lilja barrel with approx 1000 rounds thru it.

All I can assume is something is wrong with neck tension or the EldM tips are getting messed up so bad it's throwing off the shots.

Chamber issues?

I haven't been on here for awhile so be gentle, and I did use the the search function with no results. I purchased 80 rounds of Nosler Trophy Grade 160 Gr. Partition in 280 AI ammo several years ago and put it in the safe. Problem is, I decided use it and when I chamber some of the unfired rounds, they won't eject but fall out if I tip the muzzle up. Out of the 80 rounds, 39 fall back out. All other factory loads, no problems, rifle has approximately 50 rounds through it. I couldn't find any recalls on these particular lots of ammo. MODS, if this is in wrong forum, TIA please move.

Best hands on Gunsmithing School that also teaches machining?

I'm getting close to retirement and I'm looking to get into gunsmithing to make custom precision rifles. Which gun school is the best option for this? I've been looking at SDI, AGI and Modern so far but don't know what the difference is between them. Colorado School of Trade looks interesting but don't much much about that one either. Have any of you been to or know anything about these schools?

At my age I'm not really interested in getting a degree or doing that type of school work. I really just want to get hands on training working with guns. I'm also a 100% disabled vet and I would be using Voc Rehab if possible.
