8L90 GM 8 speed

Is it a POS?

Musing drivetrains for an engine swap.
The 6.2 / 10 speed is probably a better setup but these are half the price and plenty of power for my application. A couple more miles per gallon would be a sweet cherry on top.

Reading lots of issues early on regarding torque converters and shuddering. Not sure if all that can be remedied via tuning or if it's just a bad apple.

Evidently Trump’s third arrest is imminent

Trump received his target letter today from the Jan 6 prosecutor, it’s fairly obvious they will just keep filing charges in different jurisdictions until they win one, and considering this one will be in Washington DC with a blue population not that far away from 100% I don’t see how he can prevail no matter what he presents, this would go down as one of the most biased juries in legal history, his chances of even drawing a judge who isn’t the hard left of the hard left is doubtful.

Bartlein Barrels Customer Service

I’m new to the hide, although figured I would post this up for everyone to see just how great Bartlein Barrels is aa company as a whole.

Recently had a custom rifle built for quite a bit of money, and when I inspected the rifle I noticed there was some bore damage near where the smith had installed a muzzle break for me. It was blatantly obvious it wasn’t caused by Bartlein. I contacted Frank just to ask him what in the world this damage even came from. I asked Frank, because I’ve seen him post on here, and he’s extremely knowledgeable. Anyways, Frank, and Mark from Bartlein were very responsive to my emails/phone calls. It was determined by Frank most likely it was a cerakoting mishap while blasting the outside of the barrel the bore got damaged.

So you may be asking where am I going with this. I’ll tell you. Frank is amazing! Even though it clearly wasn’t their fault Frank offered to help correct the issue. That’s true customer service.

Not only do their barrels shoot lights out, the customer service is exceptional. I’ll only buy Bartlein barrels from here on out.

" Hey 1SG...remember that troop? Yeah, wait till you hear this shit."

THOR Global Defense Group, Do Not Deal With!

If this is not the correct place to post this, please admins move to the correct area. There was a post on The Hide years ago about dealing with these people. For those who are thinking of patronizing this business, THINK TWICE! I had a Barrett M107A1 on layaway, using their "forever layaway". I've been making payments consistently and they tried to cancel my layaway during the pandemic, when most people where at home due to lockdown and closing of businesses. I literally had to explain to them that in major cities, there were lockdowns in place and if your job/business was closed. You cant fault anyone for that. I've been calling the business weekly since May of this year to just confirm is my payment has been received by snail mail (USPS). I've left messages for over a month for the lady handling the layaways to confirm if she received the payment and never heard back from her. After repeated attempts, I called June 21st and finally got the owner on the horn. He suddenly tells me, with no explanation or reasoning that he was cancelling my layaway. His cronies sent me an email this past weekend, stating that the owner overheard my conversation with the lady who answered the phone, and said that since I said I wasnt leaving anymore messages or giving my name, is the reason he's canceled my layaway. And then they said in the email, that contacting me to confirm that my payment had been receieved is a waste of company time!! I didnt know taking a few seconds to send an email would bankrupt a company. He told me he was going to send me back my money. Now its a month later, no money and he has been trying to use excuses about how he's not sending me my money. Dont deal with these people, they will make you out to be the antagonist. You will literally have to beg their employees to do their job.

30 cal vs 338 cal.. elr light gun & king of 1 mile

For longer distances like light gun elr or even king of 1 Mile is a 338 a must with a 300 grain bullet or a solid copper? The new 30 cal bullets like 250 a-tip bc runs with the 300 grain and then the pva 241 solid g7 .555 .

New action with lapua or stick with arc nucleus mag bolt face.

I'm kicking it around to maybe build and try my hand at that stuff. But not sure the best route. Now I'm running a arc nucleus gen 2 30 nosler 30 inch barrel and used it in nightforce challenge not sure it's enough gun for other matches.

Question about Syria

Today there is chatter about a Russian fighter harassing a US spy plane over Syria.

Given that we're not at war with Syria, and we've never been invited by the Syrian govt, aren't we there illegally? Aren't we the ones provoking?

Tell me I'm wrong if I am. I just don't understand all the complaints if we're the ones in the wrong.

If Syrian planes were flying over the US we'd likely shoot them down

Gunwerks Elevate Bipod

Gunwerks is announcing its Elevate Bipod Today !

Elevate Bipod Cut Sheet.jpg

Elevate Bipod Cut Sheet 2.jpg

Bipods have turned a corner and this new Elevate bipod is a pretty elegant solution. I will have some words on it shortly as I just returned from Alaska. https://www.gunwerks.com/

Some neat features with this bipod and the tripod style leg system is pretty smart too. The mounting is limited right now to a picatinny rail as I don't see an upgrade or change path for it. But the 90 degree bit / turn system is cool for sure, fast too.

Vanity of Vanities...

I was sitting with my coffee this morning, meditating, and this passage came to me. Its so true, we, myself at the head of the pack, get so wrapped up in this earthly crap we lose sight of the one thing that is forever. Its not, as the Preacher says, the earth, as eventually even that will pass. What is eternal, forever? Some would say 'God' but to me that is a bit amorphous, so I see it as Jesus put it, God is "LOVE". Not even loving one another, as we will all pass. Just recognizing that the fundamental priciple of all being is found in Love/God. All else shall pass but that shall remain.

Y'all have a great day.

Ecclesiastes 1

King James Version

1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?
4 One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abideth for ever.
5 The sun also ariseth, and the sun goeth down, and hasteth to his place where he arose.
6 The wind goeth toward the south, and turneth about unto the north; it whirleth about continually, and the wind returneth again according to his circuits.
7 All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full; unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return again.
8 All things are full of labour; man cannot utter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing.
9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.
10 Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.
11 There is no remembrance of former things; neither shall there be any remembrance of things that are to come with those that shall come after.
12 I the Preacher was king over Israel in Jerusalem.
13 And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith.
14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and, behold, all is vanity and vexation of spirit.
15 That which is crooked cannot be made straight: and that which is wanting cannot be numbered.
16 I communed with mine own heart, saying, Lo, I am come to great estate, and have gotten more wisdom than all they that have been before me in Jerusalem: yea, my heart had great experience of wisdom and knowledge.
17 And I gave my heart to know wisdom, and to know madness and folly: I perceived that this also is vexation of spirit.
18 For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.

Single vs 2 stage trigger

All.
I searched the forum and couldn't find a thread that directly addresses my questions regarding trigger type.
I'll start by explaining my history with a 2 stage trigger. For years while shooting bullseye competitively I used a Hammerli 208S pistol. The 208S has a $2000 trigger inside a $500 gun. The gun was nice and accurate. But, the trigger was a work of art. Both trigger stages were adjustable for weight and sear engagement, at least perceived movement during the first stage since the sear isn't moving at that point. I would adjust the trigger to feel like a long, smooth roll with no perceptible change when transitioning into the 2nd stage.
Now that I am in possession of my first AR I question the trigger, it was assembled with a Geissele SSA-E 2 stage trigger. TBH, I had no idea what that would feel like. The 1st stage is pretty light with a lot of movement before hitting the 2nd stage. Once the trigger is at the 2nd stage it feels like 3 lbs or so in weight and is very crisp. I dry fired the gun repeatedly to get a feel for this trigger. When the trigger resets it's just forward of the 2nd stage, very little light movement rearward is required before hitting the wall again at the 2nd stage, which finishes again with a crisp pull.

My questions are:
1- What's the purpose in a 2 stage like this? To me this feels like a 1911 with A LOT of pre-travel before hitting the wall.
2- Shouldn't the trigger reset all the way to the beginning of the 1st stage? The first stage seems pointless since the trigger resets essentially to the beginning of the 2nd stage.

For bullseye competition I can explain exactly why a fully adjustable 2 stage trigger is beneficial, but I don't understand how the trigger I now possess provides any benefit over a single stage trigger. Not looking to upset anyone with these questions/observations, I would really like to understand. Hope I explained myself well. Thanks!

SOLD Nightforce atacr 7-35 f1

This one was on a bench gun of mine. Extremely good condition. I’ve gotten into prs/nrl shooting and love the mil xt reticle. Would trade for one of those or sell for SOLD$ shipped. Included original box etc. Rings are not included. Scope rings were set at 18in/lbs. moar reticle. Glass is fantastic. Scope could pretty much pass for new.

Some trades are welcome.

NF atacr 7-35 f1 mil xt, I would add $$
Razor gen 2 4.5-27 mil and cash
Razor gen 3 6-36 mil and a little cash

Possibly open to others as well

SH Lingo, Acronyms, Abbreviations, Verbology, Slang

I thought a primer might be helpful for others like myself who aren't experts on SH lingo, slang, verbology, acronyms, and abbreviations:

1) ZCO is AT and I don't mean AI-AT (No AI doesn't mean Ackley Improved in this usage) The "AT" is for Austria, a.k.a. AUT. (No, Australia is AU or AUS, )

2) TT is CA as in Can (Not "can" as in suppressor) and not CA/Calif nor CA/Chromatic Aberration (Not TT/Trigger Tech of CA/Can, nor TT/True Temper)

3) SB is DE as in Germany unless you're talking about the other SB then it's CZ (no not CZ guns of CZ)

4) LRI/Long Rifles Inc is CD of SD/South Dakota not to be confused with LRF/Laser Range Finder

5) MPA (not MPI/Metallic Particle Inspection) is GA, not to be confused with GAP of MO nor to be confused with MDT of CA.

6) Barrett is not to be confused with Beretta nor BT/Brugger Thomet

7) SF/SureFire is CA/Calif and not CA/Can, although SF does make CANS/Suppressors. SF is not to be confused with SF/Surefeed mags nor SF/Special Forces. (*SoF is NOT to be confused with SF*)

8) SD is a bullet specification and not SD/South Dakota except when SD is South Dakota

9) MT/Montana is a great place but MT/MagTech isn't great ammo

10) 7.62 is NATO except when it's x54 or x39- then it's Rusky

11) Lowlight is Frank Galli not to be confused with the light conditions term lowlight, nor to be conflated with the Galli family of Brooklyn NY

12) Zeiss is Zeiss except when Leica also means Zeiss. But Zeiss almost never means Leica

13) Aimpoint is not to be confused with the sighting term Point Of Aim/POA

14) BO means Badger Ordnance not Barrack Obama

What was the tread that guy wrote that's survived the Bosnian war?

I can't remember exactly and it obvious wasn't on here, it was some preper forum. It's a well known story but I can't find it again. It was a guy that didn't speak very good English but people were asking him questions and he was describing everything that happened to him and his family during the Bosnian civil war and how they survived.

Does anyone have a link to it?
