Threading Chatter and ect.

Afternoon guys..

So I finally got my hands on a lathe... super dangerous I know. Before yall roll your eyes to hard I know enough to get myself into trouble. (Continue eye roll) Any how I've been trying to resolve what is left of my lathe chattering issue while threading. Its extremely mild chatter and it a longer pattern rather than short. It's a used enco lathe and I've adjusted spindle bearings, replaced the bearings in the motor which was a major cause of issues. (Installed rubber isolators as well on the motor.) Single phase 220 motor btw. Checked and adjusted ways for play. Machine is anchored to concrete floor and the ways are leveled with a machinist level as well. It may be the nature of the machine that I get chatter at low RPM while threading with HSS and Carbide Threading tools (bought from travers). I can get rid of the chatter at about 400 rpm but I sure as hell ain't got the nades to thread at those speeds. I wouldn't mind some input from some experienced guys on weather I can ever expect a quality thread finish out of this machine or techniques to help a guy that's a jack of all trades and a master of none. Thanks!

FYI you won't easily offend me and I rather hear the God honest truth if you have something worth while to type out.

Im a novice and need direction

Hey guys,
My name is Ben and I am brand spankin new to reloading. Im having some trouble. I am using a hornady lock n Load system, once fired lapua .308 brass with hornandy .308 dies. I have so far deprimed/ full resize, washed in hypersonic cleaner, trimmed, champered and deburred, and then placed new primers in the brass. This is where I need help. I have measured out my powder and fulled the brass with 40.0 grains of SW tactile rifle powder. I have followed youtube videos the entire time. I have previous reloaded using my buddies already set up stuff that worked without a problem. I have since moved across the country and acquired my own reloading equipment. I am trying to set up my seating Die and I am following instruction to fully raise case without a bullet and then put on seating dye until you get resistance and then back off one turn. I put the bullet on the powder filled brass and then bullet just falls straight on top of the powder, It wont seat properly. I am using 165-A-Max 30 caliber (.308) bullets. What am I doing wrong? Clearly the neck sizing is off. I even put some brass through the sizing die again. I feel the slightest resistance when putting the bullet in the neck of the case but when putting it through the seating dye it go all the way down. Please help diagnose this issue. I am trying to learn to reload so i can practice to work my way up to PRS (yes I know .308 isnt what I should be shooting in PRS... I will get a different caliber in the future.). Please help. I am very confused. Did i buy the wrong bullets? What am I doing wrong? it seems to me its the neck sizing but I dont know.

Burris XTR IIIi vs Brownells 3-18 MPO

Has anyone done a side by side on these two?
I looking to scope a fairly lightweight hunting rifle.
Right now, the MPO's are on sale, the 3-18 reticle isn't terrible.
I'd like a really decent scope that has decent glass, I've got a Bushy LRTSi 4.5-18 that I REALLY like and I am happy with the quality of the glass in that.
Rifle will be a origin medium length action, Mesa Precision Altitude stock with a Muller Works CF barrel in 7-08AI.

Meateater has gone full Commie (maybe)

This may come as no surpise to some of the more cynical among you but I was shocked to hear Steve Rinella openly discussing nullifying the entire Constitution and our system of government because "Some of the Founders owned slaves." It's on episode #455 of the Meateater Podcast (about 13 minutes in) if anyone is interested to hear the original content. I listened three times to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding. They were discussing the Audubon Society's supposed conversation around renaming themselves due to Audubon having owned slaves. Whatever, who cares about the stupid bird-watchers, it's a symptom of the bigger problem we have (Marxist invasion of EVERY SINGLE INSTITUTION) but kind of par for the course these days, as sad as that is.

I knew they had some leftist idiots on board with the company but what shocked me was that Rinella casually said "The end of this conversation will someday land on...do we throw away the Constitution because of what the people who wrote that (document) were up to." He goes on to state something to the effect of; "It's an interesting intellectual conversation because if we get rid of the Constitution, since the writers were slave owners, what would we use to interpret the law?"

He does not say how ridiculous an idea that is or defend the Constitution in any way, shape or form.

I will be cutting off all support for them and have written them, but just me doing that won't matter much. I don't think we change his opinion but I know a lot of patriotic American's that wear First Lite, use Phelp's game calls and watch his show. We need to stop, time to stop supporting these wolves in sheep's clothing.

I'm hopeful that companies like Thunderbeast (@Zak Smith) and Mile High Shooting will be publicly cutting ties with these anti-American Bozeman commies as well. Let's Jim Zumbo their traitorous asses.

Looks like Gaven is starting his campaign.

Run rabbit Gavin run. What a faggy POS. God help us if this guy gets elected.

Fanny Pack/Bum Bag/Lumbar Pack

Due to recently having a pacemaker fitted I am having to change how I carry my hunting kit as I can't use a daysack as the shoulder strap will put pressure on the unit. A shoulder bag would not be compatible with my bino harness so I have decided on a Fanny Pack/Bum Bag/Lumbar Pack.
I need a main compartment big enough to carry a foxpro caller. I also take a small flask of tea, a few snacks, deer skinning knives and a few other items. I think the total volume will need to be a minimum of 1000 cubic inches and being able to use it without shoulder straps is a must so it must fit well around the waist.
I do realise I will have to make compromises, but sadly I can't just throw everything in a bergan and just get on with it any longer.
Any advice would be warmly received, Philip

Looking for Recommendations in the $2K'ish Range

Yet again, one of us "poors" is looking for advice. I'd appreciate any help if I can get it too.

Background: My use is for informal paper punching at 100 (about 10% of the time), and steel targets out to 900 at max, usually 750 and in (the other 90% of the time). I do not need extreme lowlight performance for hunting as I use a thermal for nighttime eradication. I will not be hunting with the rifle probably at all. I do not shoot PRS, benchrest, or F-Class...However I do enjoy shooting from different positions, as well as testing my individual skill levels at distance at reading wind etc... I do not need alpha glass. I am looking for durability, repeatability first, as it will go on quite a few SxS rides around the ranch. The rifle that this will be going on is an AI AT-X. Yes, I can hear some of you groaning right now that I am cutting myself $2K short of an acceptable starting point . I've spent $5K on optics before, but those are tools with real uses. This is for fun, and I am always looking for a best 'bang for the buck'. I'd also like 30x up top for trying to wring out the load development.

Currently my best daytime optic is a Burris XTR III, 5.5-30, made in the US. That level of glass quality has not let me down in any situation that I've used it in. It has been extremely repeatable, and has not lost zero in the miles it has ridden shotgun across the seat of my SxS. If it weren't for the cheese grater knurling and ultra stiff adjustments, I'd really love that scope. I'm looking for just a bit of a step up.

I've found several options, but have zero time behind them. I know that many of you have multiple examples of each of these, so I'd love your opinions on why you like one more than the other:

Steiner T6Xi - I've been following the current thread quite a bit. The MSR2 reticle looks interesting, but to be honest I'm a fan of "less is more" in that I don't use christmas tree reticles or any other stadia in the glass. I dial elevation and hold wind. Not sure how much additional ranging stadia I need floating in there. I also like the locking diopter and elevation/windage turrets. I understand that this is also a CO made optic, which brings me into option #2.

Burris XTR Pro - If this is a step up as everyone says it is from the older US made XTR III, then I'd probably like it. I do like the ability to switch the elevation turret as my rifle will have several different barrels for it. The elevation turret looks "old fart" easy to read (I rarely shoot with my glasses on). I just get hung up on the red anodizing on the elevation turret that doesn't lock. Seems like I'm stuck with a lot more of a christmas tree in the reticle though. I'm guessing that glass between this and the Steiner are probably about as equal as it gets.

Zeiss LRP S3 - I've also been watching the current thread on this one a lot. Seems like it might have a few more people agreeing that the glass may edge out the other previous two options by just the slightest. I have recently worked with a new Conquest that my brother had me put on his 7mag. I actually like the glass in that...the plasticky turret though and almost proprietary torx bit for adjustment I hated. I know that the LRP S3 elevation turret sticks up higher than the others - also not a fan due to storage space in the safes. The reticle looks to be the best to my eye (subjective to us all) out of these three though. However, if I'm stuck having to remember to take tools out to the range to switch zeros between cartridges I'm less of a fan. This scope is the "balancing act" for me.

Vortex Razor HD Gen 3 - I know that this one is probably the most PRS ready. I also like the reticle from all the review videos. Vortex has a great warranty...but I've had to use it a couple times (older PSTs though...not same ballpark exactly), and I'm hesitant to get another product of theirs. I still have a PST II 1-6 on a woods rifle (actually fantastic for the money), the Fury 5000 binos, and a few other Vipers from years past. I have a hard time with the color, and the heft of the G3. Maybe I'm just being a pansy.

Any other recommendations that I'm missing out on? I know that the NX8 is in this price range, but I'm not overwhelmed because the durability of so many other manufacturers has improved so much than when Nightforce owned that segment of the market. Back then I really contemplated an NXS before I bought a USO...which was still my most expensive scope purchase. The USO was a Brea CA made unit, and worked great. A divorce caused it to be sold.

So what says the 'Hide? Do you have a preference out of the 4 that I've been looking at? Thanks for your time, I know that this was a lot to read.

Chronographs suck

My real world dope never matches the numbers my chronograph spits out. My optical always read much faster than reality so I bought a Magneto speed V3 and I get the same result. Both seem to read roughly 75fps faster than reality compared to multiple ballistic calculators. At least I know to subtract 75 and I’ll be close. Now to be fair, I think these things are good reloading tools as they at least read consistent and my single digit sd’s show on steel at distance so I can use it to weed out bad loads from the get go. Does anyone else experience something similar?
