Which 22LR Rifle for plink, precision and possible competition?

Hello! I’m looking at getting a 22LR for plinking, precision and possibly NRL22 base competition. I’m new to the NRL22 game, but it looks like they increased the base price to $1200… so that’s the budget I’m working with. I’m looking at CZ 457, Tikka, and Bergara. Based on MSRP I think I might have to exclude the Bergara. What are thoughts on best out of the box shooter and availability of aftermarket products, etc? Looking for as much advise as possible to help push me towards the best bang for my $.

I made a stock

I posted a couple pics earlier in a different section but figured maybe some folks would like to see how this came together. I think the idea started brewing after someone posted a thread about which rifles look the best. I've always been a huge fan of nice walnut, and go for the M52C/D, Pre-64 M70 target stocks, CG-63's, and dig the L42a1 look... So I mulled it over and found www.cookwoods.com one day and started looking through their selection of gun blanks... Then mulled it over a bit more and called American Rifle Co. and asked (I'm sure to their bemusement) if they had any scrap/prototype XYLO chassis I could buy for cheap to use for a mini-chassis in a wood stock. Turns out they had one and we were able to work out a deal so I pulled the trigger on a $650 Claro walnut blank and got after it... Luckily I have access to an old manual mill and was able to borrow enough tooling to make this not an entirely heinous effort, but I will definitely NOT be doing this professionally... A once-every-5-years kind of pain that takes a while to forget :)

For pretty much all of the exterior and detail work that wasn't done in the mill, I used files, chisels, and rasps because I've watched people irrecoverably burn up $500-800 blanks on a belt sander... Wasn't in the mood to go there. This is the first time I've done one of these so pretty much every step spiked the anxiety meter...

Okay picture dump... this may take a few posts.

Some small amount of milling and filing later... An ARC Mini-chassis!

The chunk of wood and the plan...
KIMG2305.JPG

First terrifying cuts out of the way...
KIMG2307.JPG

Cleaning up some surfaces to mount it in two vices on the mill for the inlet.
KIMG2311.JPG

Inletting:
Decked the entire top surface to make it all flat/square. Barrel channel inlet mostly completed with a 1" ball endmill. The rest was 3/8 and 1/2" squares to make room for the mini-chassis.
KIMG2316.JPG

KIMG2317.JPG

KIMG2327.JPG

Begin the file-work.... Some shapes not going to happen on a manual mill.
KIMG2325.JPG

Some stuff is easy mill work, though :)
KIMG2328.JPG

More Filing... Cut and check, cut and check..
KIMG2332.JPG

Some rough shaping knocked out. I slabbed about 3/8" off each side to get close to final width before hitting it with rasps/files. I didn't really have a clear picture of what to do for the grip, so I just kept cutting it away until it fit my hand. Felt where it would contact my hand first, then remove that material until basically my entire palm hit all at once.
KIMG2336.JPG

A lot more filing and shaping..... Had a buddy cerakote the mini-chassis and I believe by this point I had it epoxied into the stock. Butt-plate fitting was fun (not..). Kinda at the 90% done, 90% to go stage.

A tale of two Bartlein barrels - Cryo treatment?

barrels.jpg

I have the two barrels pictured. Both are 1-7 Bartlien blanks, both chambered and profiled by Compass Lake with their CLE chamber. The fatty is 12.5", the other is 11.5"

The load is 77 TMK's over 23.0 g of 8208 XBR.

The first 5 shot groups out of both barrels are equivalent, roughly 5/8". Great, right? If I shoot say 5 consecutive groups (2 minutes between groups) on the lighter profile barrel, I get group sizes that go roughly like this:
#1 - 5/8"
#2 - 1"
#3 - 1.5"
#4 - 2"
#5 - 2.5"

I've never gone beyond 5 groups, so I don't know how that story ends. If the barrel is allowed to cool, it goes back to 5/8". I've repeated the test 3 times.

The heavy barrel is much, much better. I only tested it once, but the groups never opened up beyond 1" (acceptable for my purpose) and in truth it put 4 into 5/8" with one opening up the group everytime. There was some mirage that day, so the flyers might be optically induced.

I really want the lighter profile to work. The fatty is a full 1/2# heavier, and this is going on a rifle that's going to get carried for 50-60 miles in the Sniper Adventure Challenge. Finally to my questions:

Should I just expect that lighter profile to perform as it does? Would that be considered typical?

Might having the light one cryogenically stress relieved improve it's performance?

For reference, the diameter up to the gas block on the heavy barrel is 0.860". The lighter one is 0.800".

Edited to add that the heavy profile has about 1K rounds down it. The light profile maybe 400.

Letter to a lefty

Ms, miss, Mrs, Griner is famous female basketball player who in the past has disrespected our Anthem, flag and country. She is now behind bars in Russia charged with drug smuggling, which she pleaded guilty. She is now screaming that America’s umbrella of goodness should intercede on her behalf by begging the USA embassy in Moscow to use any method of pressure to gain her release. It’s funny that woke liberals that get in trouble overseas never cry out to the countries that they admire to help them with their problems!

The letter below should also be sent to NBA , NFL, MLB and others that make their living playing a game and also disrespect our nation, it’s symbols, traditions and our venerable veterans.

Dear Mrs. Griner,

We hope this letter finds you in good health and we understand you are having some rough times in your life. We are a group of old Vietnam Combat Veterans from North Carolina. Our average age is around seventy years old. We call ourselves, The Bunker Boys. We spent a lot of time living in rat and snake infested holes in the ground known as Bunkers. When we were not in the bunkers we were crawling through the jungle being shot at and shooting back at little people wearing black pajamas. We must be honest and tell you that the only thing we may have in common with you, is that we too, were drafted. We noticed you were drafted number one in the WNBA draft a few years ago. Since we all were drafted we thought we might let you know what it was like when we were drafted. Unlike you, most of us had no college. The people of the United States drafted us. We consisted of all colors, religions and personal beliefs. We had no choice of which team we played for; Army, Navy, Air Force or Marines. We were sent halfway around the world to fight and kill people we didn’t know in a place we had never heard of. We were paid, we know you can relate to this, $3.00 a day and required to work 24 hours a day if needed. When we returned home many or most of us were treated very badly by our fellow Americans. We were spit on, hit by bottles and rocks as the police stood by and watched. We did not complain, we just continued on in life and made the best of it. We fought for God, family, country and of course, the Flag and the National Anthem; a poem that was written by, of all people, a lawyer. He wrote the poem as he watched bombs fall on and kill fellow Americans. Ever since that night, our nation has played that little poem before millions of social functions. For some people it’s just a little song. For a Veteran it is a reminder of how many men and women of all colors, have given their life so the rest can have the right to be free.We found in our research that you requested the National Anthem not be played at sporting events. We find it odd that now you are requesting the citizens of the United States to pay for your release from a jail in Russia. Yes, we the taxpayers are paying for all of those diplomats working on your release. Our Government told you, and all fellow Americans in Russia, to leave Russia after the invasion of the Ukraine. You play basketball in a country that is known to treat Americans badly. You fly a great deal and must know by now, all the rules of what one can bring into a country. All of us that travel know the rules for entering a foreign country. You are a guest and must go by the rules of the land. By your own admission, you were attempting to bring an illegal substance into a country that is known for its long prison sentences. You had to know this because you are making a million dollars a year to play a game and hold a college degree. At six feet nine inches tall, you know that security officers are going to focus on you from the moment you stand in the boarding pass line. We also noticed that you are now saying you placed the drugs in your luggage by accident. Please, that is something an 18 year old would say. We also found out that your net worth is somewhere around $ 5 million bucks for playing a game. For old guys like us, living on a fixed income, that’s a lot of money for just playing a game. Don’t get us wrong; we are not against you. We all went and fought so all Americans can have the freedom to make their own choices. We just hope the next time you have to endure the playing of that little poem, you will pay close attention to the, “ Land of the free,” part.

Wishing you the very best,

The Bunker Boys…

How to mask gas in the field?

As we are all aware, scent and smell control are of vital importance in the field. Common errors like tobacco use are well-known. One area which may require introspection is the emission of certain bodily functions, particularly as we age. It is hoped we might address this in a mature fashion.

Not only the malodorous qualities, but sometimes the sharp retort of an uncontrolled venting, or "breezer" as our British friends may describe it, is fraught with risk.

Seems that with each passing year, both pungence and sound pressure levels of flatulence increase. It may reveal location, alienate female companions and startle dogs. I'm some cases, canaries may unexpectedly expire.

What then can be done to address this? Certainly it is problematic in situations requiring stealth.

Can medical professionals affix some sort of tactical equipment which would quietly dispense with unexpected gaseous events, and render their olfactory signature benign?

Possibly some manner of discreet flaring, as is commonly used in Louisiana and Texas oil fields?

1*Ev13n5sIyZBkj7X46VLoAA.gif

In austere conditions, this might even be put to use for cooking and heat. For our Air Force brethren, can seat cushions be vented into afterburners, on aircraft so equipped?

I ask as younger personnel may be reluctant to explore such questions.

Any issues?

I have decided to go ahead and purchase a origin action (223 rem) with a proof heavy Palma 1:7 SS, 22” tube. I’ll be dropping the barreled action into a krg bravo/X-ray and plan to use mdt aics mags for 223.

Before I pull the trigger on this, does anyone see any glaring issues or stupid mistakes as far as parts/mag compatibility?

Thanks in advance.

Interesting read on the housing market.

As well as rising supply, here is the key take away, and it gets much worse if the Fed continues to raise the prime. Thats supposed to happen later this month. Since Dec. payments went up $700 p/month. Forecast says .75% and perhaps and another .5% in Sept.

====================

Soon after mortgage rates spiked this spring, the housing market slipped into a "housing correction." It's easy to see how those higher rates priced out many would-be buyers. If a borrower in December took out a $500,000 mortgage at a 3.1% rate, they'd owe a monthly principal and interest payment of $2,135. If a borrower took out a $500,000 mortgage at today's average 30-year fixed mortgage rate (5.51%), they'd get a $2,839 payment.

Of Course: Jan. 6 Show Trial Is Getting a Little Help From the SPLC.

"Is it any surprise that a trial in search of a crime would get help from an organization that specializes in defaming and destroying innocent people for the crime of political disagreement? CBS reported Wednesday that “new insight on how former President Donald Trump was able to influence hate groups like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers was brought to light during a Jan. 6 committee hearing,” and then presented an interview with none other than Margaret Huang, President and CEO of the notorious and massively discredited Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) to offer “more insight on how the group is assisting committee members with their investigation.” According to Politico, this hateful and fascist organization is “providing testimony and research to the Jan. 6 select committee” as “part of under-the-radar help investigators have received from outside groups and experts.” Under the radar? Of course. Those who have something to hide never do their work out in the open."

SOLD AI ASR kit 1/100

Gents.

My proverbial boat has tipped over and I need to move a few things to raise some cash.

Let me be extremely up front about it: I need at least $10,000 cash out of this. Trades are very few in interest and unless it’s accompanied by $10,000 in cash it’s not worth messaging me.

For sale is a mint fresh condition Accuracy International ASR kit. The kit can be seen here:

https://www.milehighshooting.com/accuracy-international-advanced-sniper-rifle-asr-limited-edition/

I have the entire kit. It is in great shape with the following details:

- the zipper on the cleaning kit wasn’t attached correctly. It doesn’t zip shut. I believe Armageddon gear would replace it if contacted

- round counts are 0 on the 338 NM and 308 Win barrels. The 300 NM barrel has 15 rounds down it. I’ve been shooting a proof 6 creed barrel (not included) and the 308 sized bolt has 159 documented rounds.

- I have a hoptic saddle blanket installed. I will remove it if you don’t like it.

Other than those details it’s the factory kit. Comes with everything in the pics in the link.

If you know about this, then you know.

Price is $19,995 shipped oBO for the rifle kit.

Located in the Boise ID area. Willing to travel to northern UT/SLC or eastern OR or basically anywhere in ID for face to face. Cashiers check, wire, cash accepted. No PP, Venmo or BTC.

Only trades I’d consider with cash of at least $10,000 in order of interest:

1. AI AXSR
2. KAC factory rifles including SBRs
3. Noveske Ghetto blaster in 300BO
4. PEQ15 full power
5. PVS 30
6. ATACR 1-8 or Vortex 1-10
7. PS5

Rosita, the Sesame Street muppet, is a racist

Two young 'Queens' were disrespected by Rosita, the bi-lingual muppet, during a parade.

Either Rosita didn't know they were queens or she reads the crime statistics.

Sesame Place in Philadelphia was accused of racism after a mother posted a video purportedly showing someone dressed as the Rosita character ignoring her two Black daughters during a parade.

Ben Crump, the lawyer credited with winning the family of George Floyd the record $27 million civil settlement from the city of Minneapolis amid the trial for former police officer Derek Chauvin, reposted the video on Twitter and weighed in, writing: "This is absolutely HEARTBREAKING!"

"These two young Queens did NOT deserve to be blatantly singled out and ignored by this #SesameStreet character!" Crump said. "@SesamePlace MUST address their staff's disgusting behavior!"
