Seating force

Reloading 1x fired federal 223 brass.

My process:
Deprimed
Tumbled
Annealed
Sized
Mandreled
Tumble
Trim/deburr/chamfer

I’m seating 77smks, and the amount of force required to seat bullets varies from case to case. Some slide in super easy, some take some effort.

I am not brushing necks. Just leave residue carbon from tumbling .

Any ideas what is causing this? I’m annealing and using a mandrel. Is it just federal brass?
What is your annealing process?

I assume you're flame annealing??? If so, what's your indicator for the right amount of time for the cases being in the fame (how hot the necks get)?

6.5 Creedmoor

I love the scenars. Those have always shot the tightest groups for me, just wish they had a better bc. I definitely think the 136L scenar is the best between the 123 and 139.

I’ve tried so many different bullet and powder combinations over the years and I’ve always gone back to 41.8 h4350 with a 140 eld. Just plain works for overall performance and consistency in every barrel I’ve had, never a barn burner or blow your socks off accuracy but always a solid performer with low sd’s. Shot a lot of 130 hybrids with 4350 and shot very well aswell. But finally trying RL16 with the 130 hybrids…blown away. I had no idea. I’ve never had anything shoot like this in the creed before. The last 6 weeks at the range has been nirvana.

Rifle Scopes Top tier scope recommendation

Honest question because I have almost zero experience even eyeballing them, let alone shooting with them, but has ZCO finally surpassed TT for top dog Alpha scope?

I have a couple S&B scopes and LOVE them, as well as a couple mid-tier Nightforce, one Swarovski and one Zeiss scope, plus quite a few Leupolds for comparison, but finally looking for new glass for my 280AI. I’m leaning towards another S&B (probably a 6-36), but wondering about current thoughts on the latest offerings from ZCO and TT.

Ridgeline Defense RD-15 LPR

I was thinking of the Rmod barrels SOLGW was talking about in their MK1 video.

I was just giving Rudy some friendly shit.

The truth is Geissele's CHF Chrome Lined barrels have been delivering exceptional and consistent results, kinda like the Milk Man was about 9 months before @DeathBeforeDismount was born 😁

I'm sure Rudy and the people at Ridgeline have seen thier fare share of Geissele rifles go down during thier classes, but I can guarantee you it wasn't due to the barrels themselves but to the inherent complexities of Gas Guns and thier plethora of imperfections and a huge amount of operator error.

Me and my brother rebuilt a 71 challenger RT 440 4 barrel. Miss that car.

6 pack set up is a bitch to tune! Helped on one many years ago. Was a badass set up tho

that's what im hearing but i bought someone's left over setup they didn't even use. already has promax metering plates, i have the jets set how i want and the power valve. i just need to do it.

kinda want to tune out a mild hesitation in the 850 though, i think its an accelerator pump adjustment issue I'm going to work on. might need to look into a new jet size .

earning the acronym Fix It Again Tony because the guy who ran the place was named Tony.

Momentum driving -- I have always preferred driving the slow car fast, or when teens/20s, riding the slow moto fast. Trying to do the most with the least is its own kind of fun.
You can imagine all the Tony jokes I'm hearing now that I own two Fiats.

I love the slow car fast ethos. Every time I drive an actual fast car it's just a huge disappointment when I can't realistically use more than 50% of it's performance for more than 10 seconds at a time. Give me a car I can flog all day long without jail time.

With currently available ammo, OAT and other climate considerations have to be made, and adjust accordingly, but when done effectively, nothing could run with my nine twist guns at distance. Way too many details to try to write it in a post.

The goals with the nine twist were/are large; I had some barrel makers on board and started getting deeper into the ammo makers interest when the wheels fell off at VGW.

For people who may have come in late to this thread - there was commentary/question about the fast-twist project while Old Vudoo debris was still rising in the [fecal]storm back in April. Free, free at last, Mike wrote about it at some length back on page 223 of this forum.

I was one of the people who talked with Jill about a fast-twist Vudoo. I remember feeling kinda "whaaaat..." afterward. The post linked above explained why my perception was correct... but I had no inkling that the internal issues were far deeper than that bad vibe.

I've spent awhile this evening reading several dozen posts that started when "Vudoo" went silent - I think it all started in this thread circa 23-April while I think the actual axe fell on 15-April.

How far we've come in less than four months, largely due to one man's creativity, integrity, and perseverance.
